The Consequence of Evil Manners

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, who created the night and the day.  We thank Allah deeply for guiding us to Islam, the only true way.  It is Allah whom we only worship and to Allah we only pray.  Allah is our Creator, our Lord, our God, our Owner, our King and our All-Provider whom we love, worship and obey.  I bear witness that there is no God but Allah who created man (our father Adam) from clay.  I bear witness that Muhammad is the Slave and the Messenger of Allah who guided us to the Truth after we were astray.  Peace be on Prophet Muhammad, the Final Prophet and Messenger from Allah to all mankind, whose exalted memory and fragrant mention will always stay.  Peace be upon the noble family and the honorable companions of Prophet Muhammad and on those who followed them in all good deeds today, tomorrow and yesterday.

The Twilight city was a beautiful coastal city in the Dream Kingdom.  In the Twilight city lived two brothers, Nabeel and Jameel who were 30 and 28 years old, respectively.  Nabeel was a woodman who used to go to forests in mountainous areas in his city and fell trees to obtain firewood and timber.  He would then go to the market to sell these firewood and timber for a living.  Jameel was a shop owner who used to sell various commodities to customers such as chairs, tables, handicrafts, food, drinks, etc.  Nabeel and Jameel lived in separate houses.

One day, while Nabeel was in the forest cutting wood, he reached the stage of uprooting the trunk of a tree.  After he successfully uprooted the trunk, he found something covered in a piece of cloth under the roots of the tree.  Nabeel was curious and astonished to see what was hidden inside this piece of cloth so he started to dig further.  When Nabeel tore the piece of cloth, he found two middle-sized chests.  He dug further to extract the chests.  When he opened the chests, they were full of jewels.  Nabeel was extremely happy to find these two chests of jewels and he took them to his home along with the firewood and timber he obtained after an arduous day of work.  In the evening, Nabeel bathed and then he had dinner.  After that, he decided, out of his good and noble manners, to take one chest of jewels for himself and give the other chest of jewels to his brother, Jameel.  In other words, he decided to practice the noble manner of altruism.  He gave precedence to the welfare of his brother over himself.  He could have taken the two chests of jewels for himself without even informing his brother about this issue whatsoever.  His generosity and love of giving were prevalent.

The next day Nabeel went to his brother, Jameel, and told him the story truthfully.  Nabeel told Jameel the story of the buried treasures that he found.  He also told Jameel to visit his house to take his chest of jewels.  Jameel was impressed and dazzled by the generosity of his brother, Nabeel, and he deeply thanked him.  Indeed, Jameel went with his brother and he took the chest of jewels back home.

After a few days, Jameel had this devilish thought: "If I can capture my brother's chest of jewels and add it to my fortune, I can become the wealthiest person in the Twilight city.  Why do not I ask my brother to give me his chest of jewels so that I can invest it for him in a smart trade so that his fortune will grow more?  Once he gives me his chest of jewels, it will be a different story.  Yes, that is a good idea!"

The next day Jameel visited Nabeel and offered him this poisonous advice: "My brother, I am a shop owner and I am well-versed with trade.  Therefore, if you like, you can give me your chest of jewels so that I can invest it for you.  You can grow your fortune in a remarkable manner as a result."

Nabeel said: "Thank you so much.  Yes, investment is better if it is safe enough and profitable.  Here is my chest of jewels so please invest it for me."  Jameel took the chest of jewels and he kept it in a safe hidden place in his house.

After some time, Jameel came to his brother shouting: "My brother, bad news!  The caravan which was supposed to bring the commodities that I bought with your investment money was attacked by the bandits and they pillaged and robbed everything.  Unfortunately, all your chest of jewels has evaporated overnight."

Nabeel said: "Really?!  And why have you put all my eggs in one basket?  That was truly unwise from you.  I am really disappointed with you."

Jameel said: "Please excuse me; this is how I always run my trades and this is the first time that something like this happens."  Nabeel was greatly distressed and frustrated with the loss of his investment that was backed by his precious chest of jewels.

After some time, Jameel sold the two chests of jewels that he owned: his own chest of jewels that was given to him by Nabeel and his brother's hidden chest of jewels that he feigned losing due to the bandits' attack.  He bought a huge palace and myriad servants and maidens to serve him in this palace.  After a while, Nabeel visited Jameel in his palace and congratulated  him.  Jameel told him that he could generate immense profits from multiple trades he had and that he then could afford to buy such a palace and his servants and maidens.  Nabeel was completely oblivious of the evil plot of his brother and that his brother usurped his chest of jewels by a detestable wile.

After a few years, the ships of pirates have arrived at the coast of the Twilight city and they started to attack the city and kill its people brutally.  In addition, they pillaged every precious thing their hands had reached.  Fortunately, Nabeel was in the mountainous forest cutting wood so the pirates could not reach him.  On the other hand, Jameel was in his palace and when the pirates attacked his palace, they killed him and kidnapped his servants and maidens and pillaged all his treasures that he accumulated over time.

After that, the pirates had withdrawn from the Twilight city with scores of pillages and kidnapped people who would be sold as slaves.  When Nabeel returned to his house and knew about the invasion of the pirates, he was very happy that his life was saved and for being delivered from the pirates.  He felt sad for the murder of his brother but he was completely unaware of all the evil and malicious plots that his brother arranged against him.

After some time had elapsed, while Nabeel was uprooting the trunk of a tree in the forest, he found a huge chest full of jewels.  Nabeel felt extremely happy for finding the treasure.  Then, Nabeel migrated to the Flowers city which was a safe city in the Dream Kingdom.  He became one of the wealthiest persons in the Dream Kingdom and he used to donate immensely to charity and other good deeds.  He lived happily and could find an easy, comfortable life after his tiring, exhausting life.  He married a beautiful and noble wife and they had beautiful well-bred children.

This story revealed the evil and malicious manners of Jameel.  His envy, selfishness and greed have led him to usurping his brother's possessions in this ignoble and mean manner.  He wanted to be wealthy and enjoy a luxurious life while he wanted his brother to be poor and suffer an toilsome and miserable life.  Nabeel was the antithesis of Jameel.  Nabeel was generous with Jameel and he shared his wealth with him.  Nabeel loved good for his brother and wanted to help him sincerely.

Everyone must embrace good and noble manners in addition to avoiding all evil manners.  The poet said:

Your soul must be refined and purified.

Your evil manners must be removed and defied.

Let your good manners be plentiful and diversified.
