Chapter One: The Birth of a True Storm

Chapter One: The Birth of a True Storm

The sky was dark and stormy. It covered the endless sky and as the moon reached its highest peak lightning struck down towards the earth and a booming thunder followed. Not even the crickets would dare chirp. Where the lightning struck there was a single egg. It was a special egg, for within the egg lay a dragon: Ba-Ra-Zul. The only memory of his parents was them speaking it. He had not been born but he knew this to be his name. He knew that his parents left him. he, and he alone would have to take care of himself. As his conscience grew he became more aware of his surroundings and the first thought entered his mind ‘food’.

I awake and silence followed. ‘I must be really great’. The animals had never been silent. There was no moment he could recall when absolute silence filled these forests. ‘Hmm I feel like my egg would be very nutritious.’ I shall listen to my instincts. They feel as if they were lessons given to me by my parents in their absence. As I nibbled on my shell I felt as though the power of a thunderbolt entered me. I could feel my body change to attune to this… power. It takes at least 30 minutes to finish my egg but it was probably longer since I have no real sense of time. But hey whatcha gonna do? I knew very little of this world. I knew that dragons, especially young ones, were valuable to the intelligent races. So I must be wary even the beasts that dwell in this forest would hunt me down. They fear me growing older, dragons are naturally a higher race then other beasts. Dragons are questionably the most powerful race in the world. Now, lets see what I can do with this tiny body.

The squirrel sitting on a branch looking up towards the top of the hill. He overlooks this area and watches as a young dragon, leaps over the crescent of the hill frantically flapping his wing only to receive a face full of dirt as he tumbled down the hill. It was amusing to watch a dragon fail so badly at flying. He decided to watch this specimen.

As I tumbled down the hill I could only think at how dumb I must look. Rolling down the hill like some sort of idiot. As I reconsidered my body from being all mighty to a pitifully weak child. In this world monsters could age naturally or evolve by completing feats and other extraordinary achievements. Now, I'm still hungry. Let's look for some food because the egg was so not fulfilling. So I guess i’ll just wander around for now but why does it feel like i’m being followed.

It was so worth it. This dragon is so clumsy. I swear it trips on every root it finds. I almost feel out of the trees twice from laughter. He looks so scared haha if only he knew it was a squirrel. Who was causing all his fears.

What is following me? Is it going to eat me or something? Does it just want to toy with me? Ahhhh! This sucks! I looked back to look for my oppressor and subsequently fell on my face when my foot got caught on a stump. I shrieked out “Skree!” I heard a thump behind me and turned around in fear. Had my oppressor finally come to finish me off? There was no big bad scary monster however it was just a squirrel! I was furious this squirrel was my tormentor ‘I swear i'll eat you!’ I turned around charging towards the squirrel. This squirrel would die if it was the last thing I did!
