Appendix B - Monsters of Evanescent

The Blighted Swamps are home to a variety of sinister creatures and dark beings that thrive in the shadows and decay. Among these inhabitants are:

1. Shadow Wraiths: These ethereal, ghost-like beings are the restless spirits of those who perished in the swamps. They feed on the negative emotions and fears of living creatures, seeking to lure unsuspecting travelers deeper into the murky depths.

2. Bog Trolls: These hulking, amphibious creatures lurk beneath the stagnant waters, camouflaged by the mud and algae that cling to their hides. They are known for their malicious cunning and their ability to ambush their prey, dragging them into the swamp to devour them.

3. Venomous Marsh Serpents: These large, slithering reptiles are highly poisonous, and their venom is potent enough to kill or paralyze their prey in mere minutes. They are known to be highly aggressive and will attack anything that encroaches on their territory.

4. Corpse Flowers: These carnivorous plants emit a sickly-sweet aroma that lures unsuspecting creatures towards them. Once in range, their large, fanged blooms snap shut, trapping and digesting their prey over the course of several days.

5. Banshees: These wailing spirits are said to be the harbingers of death and misfortune. Their chilling cries can be heard echoing through the swamps, causing feelings of despair and hopelessness in those who hear them.

6. The Cursed: The Blighted Swamps are rumored to be the resting place of an ancient, powerful curse, and those who succumb to its influence become twisted, malevolent beings. The Cursed are consumed by the darkness, their minds warped and their bodies mutated into monstrous forms.

7. Dark Fairies: Unlike their benevolent cousins who reside in the Enchanted Forest, Dark Fairies are malicious tricksters who enjoy causing suffering and chaos for their own amusement. They use their powerful illusion magic to torment and deceive travelers, leading them further into the swamps' treacherous depths.

8. Will-o'-the-Wisps: These eerie, glowing orbs of light can be seen floating just above the swamp's surface, luring travelers with their mesmerizing glow. It is said that they lead the unwary to their doom, guiding them into treacherous bogs or towards the lairs of dangerous creatures.

These sinister creatures and dark beings, along with many others, make the Blighted Swamps a dangerous and foreboding place, best avoided by all but the most skilled and daring adventurers.
