“Not yet” I replied without even looking staring at the battle map of an upcoming space battle. One that would determine the future of humanity. There were people that opposed me, banded together into one faction.
I was now known as ‘The New God’ by some, no religious worship or anything. I was merely the creator of countless new things. My mind had long decayed but in its place was an advanced AI made neural network. The eternity of humanity was at my fingertips to recall. In my own head calculations ran as if this next battle were merely chess.
Those fossils, on the other side, they were more machine than man. Meanwhile, I merely possessed this AI, and a new lung. I refused any further cybernetic enhancement despite knowing I was long over do.
Medicine had begun failing for me, but it didn’t matter. I would finish this.
“This time isn’t a choice. You’re dying Nova” The younger version of me said.
“Of course, your point being?” I asked, moving my fingers across the map and running a simulation.
“Dying now” he said more firmly, reaching forward to grab me. I sensed it.
I merely turned slightly, extending my hand and grabbing their wrist before pulling forward. My suit aiding my assistance as I grabbed them by the hair and slammed them into the battlefield, watching the screen crack with the force.
“No” I lifted the head up, slamming it back down “I” I pulled them by the hair, watching their nose leak this black substance that certainly wasn’t blood “Am not” I say tossing the figure aside.
“This isn’t a choice” The figure stands up. Shakily they continued to speak “You have done enough; it is time to move on” they said.
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
I took out a gun and fired, watching the figure stand there and take it this time.
“Going to continue throwing a tantrum?” The figure asked boredly and tiredly.
“You aren’t fearful this time, a vast improvement” I responded, unloading the clip into his chest before throwing the gun, watching it fly through the air and hit his head. A bruise forming as more black substance dripped from his cracked skin.
“You could have never killed me anyway; I was just surprised to see how violent and uncooperative you could be. This time though, I have orders to finally take you in. No more offers, it’s time to finally just die Nova” The other me said.
“You’re lying” I said, turning back to my battle simulation desk.
The figure paused “How do you know that?” He asked, and to that question I could only smile.
“Because I said so” I responded, calmly now. I touched the cracked screen and sighed.
“What if I’m not and you drop dead a day from now?” He simply responded and I shook my head.
“Then you’ll be there, we both know. You only want me, across infinite, I alone am the one you want for whatever reason. These years, I understand my potential. Look around you faker. I own this all, I own the ship, the desk, I will soon be the unifier of humanity” I say.
“You’ll be a lonely ruler, you’re a dictator” He responded.
“So? You don’t think I’m doing this for good intentions are you?” I ask.
“Then what are your intentions?” He asked, having never considered I, a human, would be doing any of this for any other reason than the betterment of my race or the peace it could bring.
I gave a wider smile “Oh, faker. I don’t do this out of obligation or a desire for peace” I stood myself up, standing straight as my by now silver eyes as glassy as the windows stared at him.
“I do this because I can, because I can, I will” I responded “It is a new game, another game, another video to make” I raise my hands and spread them out “I do this because it’s merely a challenge. After I die humanity will crumble, it will splinter and fraction for sure, but they will adapt. What happens after my death? I don’t care.”
The figure didn’t even respond, staring at me “So you do this because you find it challenging?” He asks “Then why haven’t you-”
“Taken the offer?” I finish “Because it’s an offer, I want something from you, I want a deal” I say.
“What’s that?” He asks, and I know, I had hooked him with the possibility of finally having me within his grasp.
“I want choices” I said simply.
“Choices?” He asked, and I relished the now confusion upon my own face.
I nodded, and knew that he’d agree. After all, he clearly needed me, wanted me. So, I was in control here.
