Chapter 11

Perryn’s POV:

I eventually grew bored of standing in silence. So I said goodnight and went to my room. On the way, I ran into Henry. He was humming with his arms behind his back as he came out of his room.

“Hey, Perryn.” He said cheerfully.

“Hi.” I smiled back at him.

“Where are you coming from in such a hurry?” He asked, stopping me.

“Uh…the balcony. I was watching the view.”

He raised an eyebrow and smirked good-naturally, “I know Serah’s always up there too so this begs the question: Which view were you enjoying?”

I couldn’t help but laugh, “Both, I suppose. Serah doesn’t talk much and the town is really peaceful at night.”

He nodded, “Best view on the island. It’s when you really get to appreciate this place. But don’t worry about Serah.” He winked, “If she isn’t talking it means she’s shy…and if she’s shy then-“

“-Don’t finish that sentence.” I interrupted. “Goodnight, Henry.”

Henry didn’t seem fazed, “Good morning, you mean.”

I waved him off as I opened the door to my room.

William was asleep when I walked in, a gentle smile on his tanned face. I stood in front of him, watching him in the dim light of the room. He was probably dreaming something about home, something about his parents. He had great parents, who loved him very much. I wished my parents pid attention to me the way William’s parents paid attention to him.

I had enough of the peace.

I shoved him off the bed he was lying in.

He groaned as he blinked up at me sleepily, “What was that for?”

“You were lying in my bed.” I grumbled, “Thanks for keeping it warm.”

“No!” He protested, “I worked hard to keep that bed warm, why don’t we switch for one night?”

“No.” I said, “I called this bed. It’s mine. Look, my stuff is all around it.”

He lunged at me, dragging me out from under the covers.

“Never. I slept in it first.”

This eventually became a fight. With William and I slamming each other into walls, doors and lamps. It lasted for nearly half and hour without break before the door flew open. The light from the hallway pooled in on William lying on the floor, one hand on my chest, the other holding my fist away from his face. I was on top of him, my free hand around his neck.

We both squinted into the bright light, before our eyes focused on Serah, Elizabeth, Henry and Tanner. Elizabeth whooped, “We’re missing a fist fight, guys!”

Tanner groaned, “Well, can you guys at least fist fight a little quieter? My room is two doors down and I can still hear you.”

“Don’t dent my walls or break my furniture!” Henry protested, his eyes surveying the mess in the room.

“Who’s winning?” Serah asked, watching us.

“I am.” I said.

“No, you’re not!” William protested.

I glared down at him, “Who has the death grip here?”

“If I had a knife…” William started, but was interrupted by Henry stomping in, grabbing me and practically throwing me off of William.

“We’re done now.” He said, “You’re just supposed to sleep in this room. If you want to fight, take it outside.”

“It takes too long to go outside.” I said, “And William will be out of the fighting spirit by the time we do get outside.”

“You can throw him out the window.” Serah said.

“He’ll be dead.” Elizabeth frowned.

“No he won’t. Henry planted some rose bushes all around the bases of the walls around the house. He’ll land all comfy in a rosebush.”

“Yeah. Comfy. The thorns will impale him and I don’t feel like pulling another body out of the garden.”

William’s face paled, “Another?”

Elizabeth smirked, “The last guy who fell out the window lost a fight to Serah.” Her smirk faded and she scowled at her best friend, “And as usual, I had to clean up her mess.”

“On, he wasn’t dead.” Serah protested, “Just…hurt!”

“He was dead by the time I got him out of there.” Elizabeth grumbled.

“Oh, hush up Liz, he shouldn’t have broken in in the first place, it was his own fault.”

“Anyway.” Tanner interrupted, glaring at the two girls. Elizabeth raised an eyebrow at his interruption, and Serah’s face remained as icy as ever. “Go to sleep because the rest of us want to sleep and we can’t when you’re banging around in here…why were you fighting anyways?”

“Perryn woke me up in the middle of a wonderful dream by dragging me out of bed, then he began to attack me when I told him to go away.” William protested.

“You were in my bed.” I growled.

“That’s reasonable.” Elizabeth nodded.

“Okay well, it doesn’t matter. Just shut up and go to sleep.” Serah said as she turned and vanished down the hallway.
