Eryk was sitting on a chair outside the admission office, contemplating his next actions, this is where his life is going to take a huge shift.

It was the location uncle told me meet with the administrator of the university.

Eryk “ Finally after six and half years of anticipation , I will finally be able to enter the world of mysticism it does make me feel nervous and the Old man was really rude when I left the village but for my dreams some hardships are worth getting into.”

That’s what he thought but the administration office wasn’t in the requiem hotel but nearby a rundown 2 story building with obvious crack and tear, filled with moss and a general lack of hygiene, even the rundown and abandon places in village had a rustic vibe. But this was the only rundown building in the whole Requiem Borough, the so called the Borough of rich and wealthy.

Eryk left the village with uncle Mark who had some business in the city of Constane, It took only a metro ride from Constance city reach the capital of Vinterland, Mondone. Everything was smooth until then , entering the capital was a new experience for him, the roads were not muddy but instead solid, Every building were as tall as a light house , and the steam engine cars moving with so much speed and power it left one to wonder, Although Eryk knew about the capital, seeing them was one thing and reading them in newspaper was another thing. And entering the Requiem borough was an eye opener everything looked neat and pristine with a sense of luxury, With people driving steam car, wearing luxurious clothes and shiny jeweleries, it gave a sense of indulgence.

Mr. Eryk Wright please enter the office the professor is calling you. The receptionist with weird perm on her head called. All the women in the capital has the same hairstyle big bushy curly hair that smelled liked wax.

Eryk entered the admission office and looked at the surrounding filled with cabinets of books, paper and a typewriter.

There was a man sitting on the chair reading a paper.

Hmm quite a chubby professor.

“Hello Mr. Eryk my name is Dr. Evan Khell and I am the admission officer and also a professor in this university”

He motioned Eryk to sit in front of him.

Eryk tried to sit on the chair in a formal manner, But clearly he was having difficulties.

Hello Professor I would like to be study in your university Eryk asked sincerely and went straight to the point.

Khell looked at the boy examining him “ An acceptance letter has been provided by your uncle Major General Randall Wright via post office few weeks back informing about your arrival”

Eryk replied naturally not bothered by the gaze “Yes Sir my uncle told me all about it before he left.”

Khell looked approvingly “ Very well can I see the charm for confirmation”

Eryk handed the coin to the professor, he examined the coin very carefully and placed it in a hideously carved wooden box.

“You are indeed very lucky, the number of people who are able to join our university are very few and most of them are from very prestigious and powerful families, the number of people who can join our university without powerful backing are very lucky or extremely talented.”

Eryk “ why is he trying to show off, I don’t even know anything about magic what’s the point showing off, How do you gauge talent and looking at his nose rising up while talking makes me want to punch his round face”

Dr. Khell “ It seems what your uncle mentioned about your problem is true and very pressing issue indeed”

Huh Eryk couldn’t stop but make a puzzling face

“Your uncle stated that you like to provoke people and clearly you were having improper thoughts.”

“ The reason why I am making this an issue is because the students you will interact with in the future have powerful backing, although the university is a safe place but outside hmm I don’t think I have to explain any further. It will be best for you learn and to keep your provoking tendencies to minimum or else….. “

With a sudden rush of cold air a thin leather coated book dropped on the table with a stamped letter out of nowhere.

Professor took the letter and read it carefully. His facial expression was distorting with each passing second.

Eryk was stunned not from the professor’s expression but from the sudden appearance of a book this was sort of the same experience he felt when his uncle’s summoned his cloned puppet’s. He asked uncle repeatedly why he felt the dread every time he brought them out and how to protect against it, the reply was always the same you will know in the future.

The professor placed the letter down and picked the book up and smiled at Eryk

“You are staying in a hotel yes, Eryk you have been approved by our university congratulation. Initially there was going to be another test for people who couldn’t afford tutuion. But for some unexpected circumstances the test has been postponded. Therefore, you can immediately receive some knowledge about Aurar. I will hand this book to you read it back at the hotel when you are alone, it explain few of the basic of Zen. Now leave I have some important work to do if you have some question you may ask me when the term begins.”

Eryk was about to ask some questions but held back his curiosity, professor was clearly distress from reading the letter. So, he left the office holding the book firmly in his hand and bid farewell to the professor and the receptionist

Eryk was excited finally he could learn something about magic or Zen, Uncle always assured him that he will learn magic in university, but part of him clearly was upset with the proposal.

Introduction to Zen.

Eryk hired a carriage and arrived at the hotel, he immediately went to his room and ordered a huge amount of food. He was famished but more importantly once he starts reading the book there will be no time left for him to eat food, So he stuffed himself with food and only left the lamplight on and he opened the book to read.

It took him only a day to completely digest the book and the topics were lacking.

Eryk laid back on his bed and started thinking all the crucial parts from the book.

“all living being can become extraordinary by harnessing life energy or Aura, Aura is more like a soul without it no living being can exist, Manifesting a person’s aura is the way for humanity to gain power. After you manifest your Aura and stabilize your control you become an Aurar then the truly fun part starts, there are actually 7 path through which you gain magical abilities like those in fantasy stories, This is called Zen and it is main fundamental of harnessing your Aura in to magical properties.

First is Augmentation it is most common Zen path,most practitioners fall under this category, Although it has the most number of followers. It is by no means weak or less in someway than other path. Augmentation focuses mainly on the physical aspect, a typical main augmentation power like Super strength, speed, dexterity, endurance or healing ability are common, but there are users with enhanced vision, super sense , hyper active mind and others.

Now this doesn’t mean a practitioners belongs to one path. Most practitioners belongs to one path when they initiate at first but later they can branch to other Zen paths. In majority cases the first path that you belong becomes the dominant one and the other paths that you gain later becomes auxiliary. This pathway is more dominant on close quarters combat. Uncle might have trained me in swords and hand to hand combat for this reason.

Second most common is Transmutation, it is basically a higher level of aura manipulation, A transmutation can actually change there aura type, basically they can make there aura like fire, air or something unique like healing aura, or even an aura of decay and death. This pathway people are basically mostly all-rounder and versatile..

Metamorphosis are the type that can change one genes. This pathway requires a lot of anatomy knowledge and knack of understanding there own body, But there are few people who can instinctively change there bodies is this the so called talent that university measures in students?. Some classic examples are people building mass and changing there bodies in to animals or something else. Something to note is you can only change the physical aspect. There are also some with ability to disguise in to other human and you can also influence your genes to become a savant i.e. you can become a fucking genius with just an ability.

Channeling is the one I am most excited about . The book explanation was very unclear. The key is to make contract with Spirit world creature. They have many many different sort of ability. Some has the power to summon fire, ice ,wood and other element manipulator, you can also summon creatures with monstrous strength, super speed, invisibility, language manipulater ( Spirit world uses a different language and you can harm people with it or whatever ). You can literally make a contract with a devil , I mean wouldn’t the church hunt down this people, I am not a pious believer but the Churches clearly has a vendetta against the devils.

Manipulation seems the most classical example of magician. Basically with your mind you can control anything. You can control people, monsters, earth , fire , air , water, sand, spirit world creatures, basically anything.

Six in the list is Thaumaturgy frankly I don’t understand jack shit about this basically what I got is you can sign contract with Spirit world creatures or even Aurar but instead of them helping you directly, you can borrow there power and manipulate it, or you can imprison a spirit and use an item, marking to use the power. Some example like you can bind an spirit being to a weapon and by using that weapon you can use abilities of the spirit world creature, Now it doesn’t have to be a weapon it can literally be anything or anyone.

The final one is called Transcendent. This Zen pathway is the rarest pathway , the book state this pathway has some of the most unique and unheard abilities. In a Generation there are only few people who can actually be able to use this Zen, the book describes it more like a wish or will. You can literally do or become anything.

Eryk was clearly thinking after reading the books, he was holding his silver amulet and contemplating “ Every Zen pathway seem fascinating, Uncle seems to be a Channeler, that ability was most probably summoning spirit world creature with shape shifting power.

I understand why professor gave me this book without so many warning, this book doesn’t explain how to gain this powerful abilities instead it just explains the different type of path a person can begin with huh? So it seems a person can’t choose a different pathway but one is actually born with it. This book is more like to introduce magic and wonders to children than to guide them, fuck this book is lacking in so many ways, Assuming all the content in the book is real , how long does it take for one to gain this abilities ?

I need more answers, the university starts after five days,I have to make some preparations.
