Not a Chapter
First of all, sorry for the long and unintentional hiatus. Sorry for not giving any updates, but it was just as hard to say I was having trouble continuing the story as it would be for you all to hear it.
So, where to start. I guess the biggest issue would be the best place. The truth is, I have been unhappy with the direction my story has gone, and the longer I am away from it, the more discontent I am. Honestly speaking, the last twenty-five chapters feel like a mistake to me, as they have been pulling away from what I feel made my story unique and fun to write. I got so wrapped up in making cool creatures and environments, that my story just starts to feel like another dungeon story, with progressively harder waves of enemies trying to kill him, and not much aside plot development aside from that.
I would like to go back and truly write a story about a “bound” dungeon, and not one who immediately kills it’s master and runs off to be a dungeon just like any other. That being said, I don’t hate what I have written, much the opposite, it’s just not the story I want to tell, and I want to give it a redo.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
I don’t want to delete all my hard work, but I also don’t want to leave it unfinished. I have been considering redoing the first few chapters, cutting it around chapter seven or eight, and starting fresh from there, but under a separate book page on the website. But I’d like to get the opinion of the readers, and to give them an update on what’s been going on, and an idea of what to expect in the future.
I’ve also been trying out many new story concepts that aren’t dungeon based, and have wanted to give one of those a try for awhile now, but I need to polish my skill with writing dialogue and characters who can do stuff aside from sitting around and making things.
I’ll post a link to the rough draft of the final chapter of book one, and I would like to finish the last thousand words of the “old” version. Alternatively, I could write something different before coming back and revisiting this story, which I have been leaning towards so I can get some practice writing something new, and then come back and apply what I learned to the redo.
As always, give me your thoughts and opinions, and I’ll do my best to respond quickly. I’ll be heading to class after posting this, so give me a bit of time to reply today.
Unfinished Chapter 35 (1 POV is unfinished, around 1000 more words.)
