The book "Beatrice"

Only If I wasn't foolish...If I wasn't, I'm sure things would've turned out the way I wanted them to be. As I sat here in a dark and cold room, so thirsty and hopeless with these thoughts full of regrets, I could hear faint footsteps nearing the room. Then I heard her talk in a mocking voice.

"Hah! Tired already?!”

Despite the room being very dark, I took a glimpse of her smirking face, her blonde hair shining as if it was a newly cleaned window, and her bangs almost covering her emerald eyes, who were looking at me pitifully. And I'm sure it's my step-sister, Ellie. I wanted to answer her but my voice wouldn't come out as I didn’t have water nor food for almost 2 weeks now. All I need is water... To quench my thirst… Even a slice of freshly baked bread wouldn't suffice.

"Don't worry, They're going to be finished preparing it soon."

Ah… I remember, today is my execution day, where they are going to behead me. As I forced myself to talk, I saw her smiling and spoke again in a happy voice.

"Don't you know all along?!, You were the real one!"

My mind is full of anger and confusion about what she is saying. And then I heard loud footsteps nearing my room again.

"My lady, it's time." A red-haired tall man wearing armor said.

I heard the door creaking and Ellie giggling. It's very bright outside, enough to make me blind.

"Don't worry, you won't feel a thing.” the man said with a gentle voice, it almost seems as if he's pitying me and thinking I don't deserve this too. But I don't need his pity, or I can say it infuriates me. Then he pulled me up like I was a stuffed toy lying on the floor as if his gaze earlier was just my hallucination. Then he walked me outside gripping my shoulder tightly, worrying I might lose my balance and fall. As I barely walked I took a glimpse of who the spectators were. I saw my father, the emperor, sitting on his throne, his face so calm and his black hair swaying because of the wind and almost burying his scary gray eyes. Staring at me as if what he's watching right now is a magic show. And beside him standing, is my brother who is the next heir of the imperial family. I saw him smirking and looking at me as if I was a pitiful rabbit that is just about to be eaten by a lion. And beside him is Ellie also as happy as father but her face cannot hide her excitement, unlike father, who is always expressionless despite whether he's happy or angry. There were no other people on sight except them. I am at least happy that my execution didn't turn out to be public. Then they forcibly kneeled me down as if they were commanding a dog to sit. Above me were long swords sparkling because of the sun. Then suddenly… It felt cold… But it quickly turned into warmth. I could hear muffled voices, and It was very loud. I am in a very dark place as if I am in the nothingness. I can't move nor feel any parts of my body. The only part of me that is functioning is my brain. Then suddenly I heard a loud woman's scream as if she was suffering from something. Then another voice added.

"Just a little more!"

The woman screamed again very loudly this time. Then suddenly, I can now see. I'm out from the dark place which seemed like nothingness earlier. But it's very blurry. I can feel that someone is carrying me over to the woman lying on the bed, full of sweat and her face covered with relief. Then the one who's carrying me finally handed me over to the lady. I lay within her soft fragile arms. Her face was so pale and her gray long hair grazing over her shoulder while her amethyst eyes were looking at me with affection. But her face is so familiar. It's as if I've met her somewhere in the depths of this world. Ah, I remember now. Her description. ’Skin so pale, Gray hair like clouds, and eyes like jewels, Hari Lenoir’. A character from the novel I read. Despite her pale appearance I heard her speak with a faint yet soft voice.

"My baby… Your name shall be Blair.."

I was confused and dumbfounded about what she said. But I quickly turned back to normal. I think I have a grasp of what's happening now. I had been reborn, From the novel I read in my "past life". The title is Beatrice. But I'd rather prefer not. I'm so tired of loving and trusting people. If I let my guard down again, what happened to me before will repeat itself.
