Blink

"Wait... Fight? Me?" Belite looked dumb-foundedly at the administrator in front of him as he gulped and joked. "You aren't trying to kill me by chance, are you?"

But to his dread, the woman stayed silent, not bothering to reply as she simply drived the vehicle off into the distance.

Calming himself down, Belite grimaced as he glanced at his surroundings, he was sitting in a pure white and clean seat while the doors on both his sides were locked tightly. There were windows but he doubted it was feasible for him to break them.

'I doubt I could even break them... This looks like the lastest version of HMVs... They use that energy from the Superhumans to work.'

He whistled as he tried to glean more information. "Um... Miss administrator? If I'm going to fight, why don't you give me some information?"

"You might not know it but I had once encountered a brat from Beucrox family who was acting height and mighty in the Coastal City—"

Squeek!

Before he could finish his sentence, the HMV vehicle that he thought of, suddenly breaked as the administrator said flatly.

"We're here." She then got out of her seat and opened the door to his. "I assume I wouldn't have to drag you there?"

Belite shook his head and raised his hands in the air in surrender. Smiling bitterly, he declared. "I yield." While getting out of the vehicle as he glanced around. 'It's near the sewage systems,' He then looked at a small brick-building at the front. 'There's the entry...'

His hands still up in the air, the administrator led him into the brick building with great familiarity, and when they arrived at the entry, which was two-three metres deep, she just jumped down while Belite used the ladders to descend.

Splash.

Jumping down, Belite noticed that the familiar stench around him had vanished and replaced with pleasant smell of Sweet Flowers.

Belite glanced at the administrator in slight surprise. 'Is this magic?'

But neither of them said a word as Belite walked behind the administrator, having given up resistance. 'I have lived a good life.'

While he was buried in his own thoughts, he saw the administrator take the small microphone at the edge of her shirt as she spoke in it.

"Already in," A voice buzzed through the microphone as she nodded to herself before glancing at Belite. "Target 708, right?"

'Is the target me or that monster?' Belite thought in amusement as the administrator finished talking into the small microphone and slid it into her pocket.

"Be careful," She said. "We won't be protecting you if you are in a peril."

Belite shrugged as he didn't respond, following behind her until the both of them reached the big metal door, which had eerie noises resounding from within.

Clang, clang!

She then threw him her mobile phone as she said plainly. "Record." Before opening the door and heading inside as Belite followed through.

Creeek~

As they headed inside, what he saw almost made him gulp in fear.

There — into the shadowy distance, was a grotesque being that had it's figure hidden in the darkness that was feeding upon a skeleton that still had bits of it's skin on it's bones, the skeleton's eyes were on the ground half-eaten while it's joints were disjointed.

Belite resisted the urge to puke as he held onto the mobile phone tightly.

'What's going on, didn't she request for reinforcements?' Belite looked at the administrator, who was looking at the monster named Ratland with the corners of her mouth curled up. "Didn't you request reinforcements?"

He spoke without a tinge of respect, causing the administrator to look at him.

She stared into his eyes for a few moments and sighed. "You know too much," she said, causing Belite to shudder involuntarily.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"Wait!" He immediately shouted. "What do you mean 'I know too much'? Why are you doing this?"

He took a deep breath as he blurted out all the options he had thought. "If I knew too much and you are afraid that I'll report it to your supervisors, you could have just killed me in that HMV or even earlier! There's no reason to bring me here. Surely, no one could question such an esteemed administrator such as yourself if you killed an inmate or two, right?"

He spoke with a grin. "And what's up with this 'Unwanted Hand' bull? A Superhuman knows my name? It's impossible! I have never crossed the bottom-line of those in the Law Enforcements and have always remained under their radar doing petty things! Even the nickname I got was from a drunkard."

"So, how do you Superhumans know my name? For one fact, I know that my life in the prison has been too lax, the staffs are friendly to me and I even get special treatment such as serving other inmates food with the portion being that of what I decided."

"It might not be much in other places but in prison, food is something even those who've been in the prison for years wouldn't dare miss. So don't you dare tell me that it's all because I'm a sixteen year old kid who's a bit smarter than his peers!"

'A bit smarter huh?' The administrator thought to herself as she chuckled.

"And all this implies to one thing, that is—"

Before he could continue his sentence with a huff, he was coldy cut off by the administrator and her chilly voice.

"Boy." She said, staring at his eyes with a chilly gaze. "I do not care nor know about what you've said so far. But let me make this clear to you.

If you were in my place, would you like getting your hands dirty with the blood of a sixteen-year old? Absolutely not!" She then chuckled. "Besides, it would be more entertaining to see you fight the monster, no?"

Belite's complexion immediately paled, the words he was about to spout dying in his throat.

'That's right... Humans, they are very weird.' He had forgotten that even though those so-called people didn't like to kill animals themselves, they would savour their meat.

"Good luck." The administrator left, closing the door behind.

Belite looked at her leave in disbelief as he looked at the mobile phone in his hand and chuckled. 'I had thought I had gotten into the crux of this matter, and I still believe in my own guesses. But oh well,'

Belite looked at the rat that was savouring upon the bones of the skeleton as he yelled in a low voice and charged forward.

"Heh, For Glory!"

The monster's figure slowly came into his view, it wore a black robe which had a hood that was on where it's head should have been and then the monster slowly turned around to face him,

In the darkness, all that glowed were it's bright red eyes that suddenly became sharper.

It didn't do much, it just extended one of it's sleeves and pointed to Belite's direction.

Squeek, squeek squeek!

Thousands and thousands of rats immediately bursted out of it's sleeves, heading towards Belite as if it's own hand has extended.

But thankfully, as the speed was uniformly low, Belite managed to duck at the last moment as he slid on his knees and closed in on the creature.

And when he was close enough to it, all it did was raise it's left 'leg' and swing it at him.

He raised both of his arms and held them in place tightly as his tight knuckles faced the ceiling,

But all he felt was the cold leather of its pant's sleeve and a squishy and soft texture hitting his arms,

Then a hard metal hitting his back was the feeling he felt as a bitter taste filled all of his mouth.

"Pfft." He gave a light laugh as he spat the blood and bought his head slightly forward.

It hurt,

'It hurts...'

The back of his head felt sticky and wet, giving it a heavy feeling and making it difficult to detach it from the wall that was against his back.

Moreover, his arms and ribs hurt.

'That's right.'

Feeling a bit dizzy, he moved his head with great difficulty and looked at his arms, which had turned bright red, then at the figure that was slowly closing in on him.

'How foolish.' He slightly closed his eyes and opened them, gazing at the monster that was nearing him every time he blinked.

Blink,

It was now a metre away from him.

Blink,

It was now half a metre near him.

Blink,

And before he knew it, the monster had crouched down before him as it gazed at his eyes with it's fiery bright red eyes.

It then leaned forward slightly and latched it's face on his neck.

Belite didn't yell or mutter anything amidst the searing pain he felt on his neck, instead he extended his arms forward and punched the monster in it's stomach lightly.

He doubted it would even kill a mosquito.

'Ha.' A light laughter escaped his mouth.

After this punch, all he felt was the cold texture of the leather robe it was wearing and the soft and squirming flesh inside.

'...How many rats are inside you, mate?'

He felt a slight pain descend on his heart but compared to the pain all over his body, it just felt numb. He didn't feel any pain at all, as if it was insignificant.

This made him remember the quote, "Humans are beings that ignore small problems once they have a bigger problem. But when they have no problems, they scrutinize their small and smallest of their problems and make it big."

Maybe it applies to physical pain too, he thought as his heat was almost burning.

Just as he was about to lose consciousness, he saw his world turning black for a second before he returned to reality.

Scrunch...

The monster which was latched onto his neck was now a metre away from him as it's posture was curled up.

Even though he couldn't make up the exact distance due to the dizziness, he felt his world turning blank once again as he saw the monster distancing itself from him everytime he blinked.

His muddled thoughts turned clearer as he felt himself in a new surrounding,

'What...'

His new surroundings were black,

Ripple.

A small ripple formed on the black void in front of him as he heard a voice.

"Congratulations,"

The next moment he opened his eyes, he saw the monster turning into a frenzy and charging at him with a fervent behaviour.

But it was immediately intercepted and stopped in its tracks by two people wearing hoods of black and white each as they said.

"Congratulations Miss, target 708 is a success."

Belite stared at them in confusion before closing his eyes in relief.

'Ha... No wonder...'

He was right.
