Book 1: The Shop at the End of the Road - Ch001

Dear reader,

The first book of the series is a game book, and is thus not to be read in running order, as is the norm for the stories on this site.  Please use the navigation links built into each chapter instead.

The game book structure is meant to help you pick a “main character” to follow; I recommend you go through the first book no more than twice or thrice; more storylines will “unlock” after your first playthrough. However, the story will resume a (more or less) linear timeline from the second book onwards.

You won’t need dices to enjoy this story. However, I may periodically sneak in some hidden side chapters for a limited time, which will only be accessible by solving simple (?) puzzles and praying to the RNGesus.

Thank you for your interest in this tale, and I hope you enjoy.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

[001] Introduction

Dusty, paved, gravelled, bricked or tarred – roads are the veins of cities, towns, and all that is known. In cities, gates mark the end of civilization, but in small towns like Tisunge, homes and inns do. In this tiny town, a humble little two-story inn with a black tiled roof marks the end of the town. Playing the bawdiest of tunes, serving the cheapest food and drink, and filled with the sauciest maids, the Tumbling Boar was a common and prosperous place.

Yet, according to the elders of Tisunge, the Tumbling Boar on the west side marks the start of the town, while a shop marks the end of town in the east. A shop with no name, that only appears on blustery, moonless nights. A shop that sells mysteries, wishes, dreams, and nightmares.

Tisunge is a small prosperous town connected to various places of worship, located in the heart of the Southern continent, near the border between Grandeo and Aurellus. Due to its location, it was at the crossroads of the continent’s numerous cultures, as well as the last frontier to the ethereal. Thus, it was a town of numerous tales and legends.

Traveller, it was into this tiny town that you have wandered. What time was it when you stepped into town?
