Prologue

Edward Thompson, a young boy of twelve and son of the rich businessman, Arnold Thompson, was playing by the beachside on their private Shetland Isle his father had recently bought. It was 11 a.m. on a bright Sunday morning. His father was setting up barbeque for lunch while his mother was out swimming. It seemed as if nothing could go wrong on a day like this. But Ed didn't know that this time, Fate wasn't on his side.

It happened suddenly. The sky went completely dark, as if night had come early. Little Ed became scared and ran to his father. They heard the sound of raging thunder. A bright green light shone in the darkness of the day. The view looked scary, yet beautiful with the accompanying lightning. What was a little green dot in the sky, now grew larger. It seemed as if it was hurtling toward them. Ed asked his father, "That looks like an asteroid, doesn't it, Dad?". Mr. Thompson stood there, stunned and still. It was as if he had turned to stone. The asteroid swung past them, towards the Norwegian Sea. There was a loud booming sound and then silence. Mrs. Thompson was back by now. She was scared too. A couple of minutes passed in absolute silence.

It felt as if everything would go back to normal now. But then, the water on the beach started receding, a sign of an incoming tsunami. The ground shook violently beneath their feet. It seemed that the island was soon going to submerge in the ocean. The wave was huge, very huge. It looked as if it touched the skies. Arnold Thompson asked everyone to run towards their house; to their basement, which seemed like a safe place. But the wave was faster. Ed looked back, probably for the last time in his life, as everything went black and the feeling of extreme pain overcame him.
