As the first ray of sunshine sent it’s bright light through the colored window and onto Emilia’s face, her eyes fluttered upon opening, still sticky from the tears she shed the night prior. Once fully awakened, she got up and stretched, taking a look at the big, old, and loudly clicking clock on the wall. 7:35 in the morning. She got on her feet quickly, realizing how little time she had before her scheduled meeting with Ominis and ran to the upstairs bathroom to wash off.
The entire time the events from the previous night kept on flashing through her head like a continuous nightmare. How could an evening so perfect could end so badly? She felt as if both Atticus and Ash were mad not only at one another but also at her. The girl felt as if she was the reason for their repeated fights and disputes, since one was her boyfriend and the other her close friend and she insisted on spending time with both despite their open hate for one another.
Was it her fault? Would either of them blame her for what had happened? She wiped her wet face as she stepped out of the shower and tried to wipe the thoughts off her mind as well. What’s done was done and there was nothing that could’ve been done about it. She needed to focus on helping out Ominis the best she could. Who knows, maybe she’d even be able to return his sight completely if she tried enough.
Those thoughts rolled through her head like stones down a hill as she ran down the bent staircase and made her way out the door. It was already past 8, so her friend would probably be there by then.
And she was not wrong. Upon opening the door cautiously, making sure no one else was around, she spotted Ominis, standing by the higher staircase leading up to the Astronomy Tower. Once he had heard the screech of the old doors he turned towards her.
‘Emilia? Is that you?’ – his gentle voice echoed through the hallway.
‘Hey, Ominis.’ – she replied as she walked up to him.
‘What was that sound? I thought there were no rooms here.’ – his brows raised in confusion as he asked.
‘Well… That’s why I’ve asked you to come here specifically. Come on.’
She grabbed him by the arm and gently pulled him towards the doors, right before they were to disappear from the sight once more. She opened them and let him in first. His face revealed a feeling of suspicion and doubtfulness as he went in and was guided to sit down on the couch. The colorful lights from the stained glass window were painting a rainbow on his troubled face and reflected over his milk-white pupils.
Emilia sat herself down in front of him and took a deep breath, trying to quickly think of the most proper approach. She then looked back at him as his empty eyes were pointed at the space right next to her arm and it gave her a sudden boost of confidence and a sense of determination.
‘Ominis…’ – she started, feeling nervous but knowing it was the right thing to do. His eyebrows raised lightly as he began listening to her words. – ‘Listen. Yesterday, I mentioned that I wanted to help you regain some of your eyesight, right? And I know, I know you don’t believe anything could be done about it.’ – she tried to explain herself as his mouth opened to protest her proposition. – ‘But, I know it is possible. And I’ll prove it. You’re not the first person I’m helping either.’
‘Really? Who else have you helped then?’ – he asked, with a slight sarcasm and bitterness in his tone.
‘Elle. Elle Moss. You know, the Hufflepuff girl from the 9th year?’ – he nodded in response as she continued. – ‘She keeps on being bullied and a lot of her belongings often get destroyed or broken, including her glasses, so, after fixing those for her countless times I’ve just decided to fix her vision instead and she no longer has to wear those.’
‘And how did you do that?’ – the sarcasm in his tone became more noticeable.
‘I can… I know you’re most likely are not going to believe me when I say it but… I can heal people. I heal wounds and injuries of all sorts. And not by using spells or potions. I simply do it with my bare hands. I helped Elle fix her sight, healed Ash’s arm after he got cut during yesterday’s Quidditch match, I fixed the broken legs of the little boy me and Atticus saved from the troll in the Forbidden Forest and then also helped Atticus with the injury he got as a result of it. I know I never tried to do something as complicated as bringing back one’s eyesight completely, but I really want to try, Ominis. You’re my friend and I’d love for you to be able to see the world with your own eyes.’ – she looked at him, really hoping to have brushed off his doubts.
His face still showed a mix of unsureness and skepticism, his lips curved into a bittersweet smile, but he exhaled loudly and gave her a small nod.
‘I guess I can’t really think of any reason why you’d be willing to lie about such thing, so, you’re welcome to try if that will make you feel better. I’m glad you’re so determined to help me, I appreciate it, truly.’ – through his reply she sensed that he still was not really that convinced but at least she could try to prove him wrong.
‘Okay, I know you still don’t really believe me but you’ll see. Close your eyes okay? And don’t be afraid of whatever you might feel.’ – she asked as she scooted over and took a bunch of deep breaths in order to calm and prepare herself for what she was about to do.
His brow raised in suspicion at that comment but he obeyed and closed both of his eyes, waiting in silence.
Emilia gently placed both of her hands on his face, her palms covering his eyes, and breathed in right as she began feeling the magic tingling in her bones, moving through her arms up to her fingertips, releasing a white halo over both of them. She began seeing his already pretty light hair turn white right from the roots but just then an overwhelming pain overcame her, forcing her to squint her eyes.

A small gasp left her mouth as she felt the pulsating pain all around her eyes, making her feel like her skull was about to break and her eyeballs were to pop right out of her. This felt even more unbearable than fixing the little boy’s broken legs and lasted much longer. For several minutes she was fighting not to cry in pain as she pushed more and more of her power right through her and into Ominis, who as she sensed was breathing faster and was also trembling slightly with emotions. Finally, the girl let out one last push and removed her shaking hands from the boy’s face. She opened her eyes and saw his hair slowly becoming an ashy blonde once more and the white halo disappearing in the air within seconds.
Ominis’ eyes were still squinted and she began to worry and was just about to speak up but then he raised his own hands to rub his eyes harshly before opening them. As she looked closer she saw his milky pupils gaining color very slowly. In the duration of around a minute his pupil began getting darker until it had turned black and his iris became the color of a very faint, greyish blue. He was blinking quickly and repeatedly, his breathing was short and quick and she sensed his heart beating fast. Once the color filled his eyes they began looking around chaotically, visibly unable of comprehension of the newly gained sight.
Emilia’s eyes filled with tears instantly as she saw Ominis take a look all around the room, his head rotating from one sight to the other, taking in the entirety of the room around them as well as the girl herself. His breath quickened even more and he began sobbing like a child, tears rolling down his pale cheeks and his mouth slightly open, struggling to force out a word. His eyes locked with the girl’s as they both cried and he leaped in and embraced her in a tight hug, still trembling whilst crying uncontrollably.
‘Can… Can you see?’ – she asked him fighting with her own tears.
He laughed as he almost choked on his own cry.
‘Yes, Emilia… Yes, I can see! I can see everything!’
He backed away and took one more look at her with his light blue orbs.
‘I… I just cannot believe it. I see… I see everything… everything…’ – he kept on repeating as he wiped the tears from his eyes.
…
Within the next couple of days, the entire school was shaken up by the sudden return of Ominis’ eyesight. Everyone, even teachers, kept on asking him about it, but he kept quiet, just as he had promised, brushing everyone off with some made up story of a sudden miracle happening overnight. Not everybody seemed to believe him but after some time the prying had stopped.
The only person that was told the truth was Sebastian. After his previously blind friend appeared in the Slytherin common room with a pair of working eyes he was in a big shock. And when the trio met up later that day in the garden’s to talk in peace, Sebastian still had his jaw on the floor, staring at Ominis indiscreetly.
Emilia explained everything to both of them then, revealing the whole story that she had not shared with them before, right from the very beginning, leaving her friends dumbfounded and struggling to wrap their heads around the whole matter.
‘Wait… so that means you are the child mentioned in that old prophecy, doesn’t it?’ – Ominis quickly caught onto the connection between the two.
Sebastian’s eyes widened as he had also connected the dots.
Emilia simply nodded in reply and the two boys exchanged worries looks, but before any of them got a chance to speak up, she quickly changed the subject.
‘Ominis, we should probably show Sebastian the room, shouldn’t we? I mean he is the only one that has not seen it yet.’ – her friend was stopped right as his mouth opened to speak and after a quick moment he simply nodded in agreement and went on to head to the Astronomy Tower with them, but with a worried look engraved on his face.
...
Soon after, Emilia finally decided to let in both of her Gryffindor friends in on her secret hideout as well, which gave them all a great spot to spend time with whenever the common room felt like too much. After that, her secret space would feel so much more homely, with someone almost always hanging out there, whether it was Elle reading by the fireplace, Ominis helping out Sebastian with his homework, Rosie and Jaz chatting up together with Emilia or Ash coming in every once in a while to look for her if she was nowhere else to be found.
The only person that Emilia still didn’t introduce to her little secret place to was Atticus, who, as it seemed, began avoiding her after his fight with Ash the last time they saw each other. When he did come to class he would avoid any type of conversation with Emilia, replying to her questions with only one word answers and disappearing somewhere right afterwards.
One day, right at the beginning of December, after a couple of weeks of having barely any contact with her friend, Emilia asked Ominis and Sebastian about him when the three of them were in the middle of a potions class. Atticus was at the other end of the classroom, standing by his brewing station with two Hufflepuffs, not even looking back at his Gryffindor friend.
‘Actually, I rarely see him in the common room or the dormitory.’ – Ominis revealed in answer to her question.
‘What? So he just doesn’t come to your dormitories? Not even to sleep?’ – Emilia raised her brows and looked back at Ominis from Atticus’ dim silhouette in the other corner of the room.
Ominis shrugged and shook his head, right before the Professor came over to scold them for chatting instead of focusing on their brews.
After the class was over the girl decided to catch up with him and finally confront him about everything. He quickly packed and headed for the stairs leading up to the castle when she chased after him and grabbed his shoulder to stop him.
‘You know you have to talk to me eventually, right?’ – she asked as she kept walking quickly after him.
The girls words seemed to pass through him like fog as he kept on walking with an emotionless expression hiding behind his round sunglasses.
‘Listen…’ – she followed, pulling his arm to stop him and have him look at her – ‘I’m sorry for what happened. I know Ash acted too harshly and treated you unfairly. But it’s no reason for you to ignore me now, I never meant for any of this to happen.’ – her blue eyes stared into his grave face as she asked – ‘Can we just be friends again? I’ve missed you.’
He took a long moment of just looking down at his shoes before finally looking back up at her with a deep sigh.
‘I’ve missed you too, Vay. I’m sorry for being an arse. I just can’t stand being around Ashton and he is glued to you like a plaster.’
She smiled and shook her head as she embraced him in a quick hug.
‘You’re not an arse. I know things between you and Ash had been especially harsh since…’ – she sighed and shook her head – ‘So, can things be normal again?’
He nodded with a faint smirk and gave her a slight bump with his elbow.
‘Of course.’ – he paused for a second and she noticed his gray eyes glistening from behind the sunglasses as something came to his mind – ‘Are you busy today?’
Her smile faded lightly.
‘Yeah, I have my extra lessons with Professor Weasley today, but I’ll be free tomorrow. Why?’
‘Oh yeah, that’s right.’ – his smirk widened. – ‘I found a really cool place north from the Forbidden Forest. Figured you’d want to come with me. No trolls this time.’
Emilia let out a quick giggle.
‘As long as there’s no trolls… I might just come.’
