Arriving in a new world, humans found themselves to be the only ones unable to use magic. After a few peaceful years, a bloody war broke out between mankind and the nymphs, creatures most skilled in magic. Several centuries passed. Hiding behind the walls, humans in all eight kingdoms were trying to squeeze every last bit of technology to fight against the constant threat from the nymphs.  But if the end justifies the means, the risk of losing humaneness is no less than losing a war. The storylines take place simultaneously. Cornelia, the young princess of the Castro kingdom, seeks a way to help people survive in the harshest territory and to oppose her father. Meanwhile, in the Vardana Kingdom, Ashwin, a young son of a vizier who was accused of treason, is captured and sentenced to a brutal execution. The hunchback girl, Bug, finds a strange magic artifact that forever changes her life as an outcast.
