"Miss Isabel... Miss Isabel you will be late if you don't wake up now" Isabel noticed one of her many maids acting as an alarm clock in a room that was without a speck of dust and was so big that is dwarfed the average size of a full scale house. This was the bedroom of royalty and Isabel was the next / only in line for the throne.
"I'm up, I'm up...zzzz" Isabel spent all of 4 seconds awake before falling back onto her bed, wrapping up in her huge red blanket and sleeping.
"... How?... Just how?" The maid was new to working for the princess so she had yet to get used to all the strange abilities of this princess. Isabel was 19 years old and had a very mature figure that made her look slightly innocent yet clumsy. Looks can be deceiving but in this case they match her personality perfectly.
(10 Minuets Later)
"I'm LATE!!!!" Isabel shouted as she ran through the huge castle having put the last bit of her dress on and styled her long brown hair into twin tails that were being dragged behind her as she ran. Isabel also had brown eyes and a smooth skin that was so white it would put the dead to shame.
After running through the castle she made it to the dinning hall.
"Why..*Pant* Is the castle *Pant* SO BIG?" Isabel managed to say while catching her breath.
"Why are you running?" The king asked with a curious smile. Happy to see her but curious to know why she chose to run. The king was an old man at this point and had grey hair, grey skin, grey eyes and smelled of decomposition. He was a kind and generous ruler and his main job was to be a figure head.
"The castle is so big that if I didn't the day would be over by the time I got here" Isabel said while sitting down at the huge dinning table that was mostly empty of people. Only the king and Queen were there.
"Anyway. You said you had something to discuss?" Isabel said inquisitively
"Ah yes. With the world peace festival only 8 months away we decided to bring up the idea of building a remembrance statue for the Hullen in the next meeting of the kings... or in this case 3 Kings since the elven race's first child was female" The queen said who was in a similar state to that of the king. Old yet looking more like a grandma who brings sweets for her grandchildren.
"The who?" Isabel asked confused.
"The Hullen. You can find information on them in the library however the race died out due to The Demon's Extinction of them at the previous Peace Festival 100 years ago" The queen said informatively before continuing her meal.
'The Hullen? I thought there were only 5 races counting elf, dwarf, sub-human, human and demonic. I will pay the library a visit later... The library is 3 miles walk away due to the long maze of halls... damn it' The princess thought to herself as she ate her meal with a tear of regret on the pain her feet will be feeling.
Later that day Isabel went to the library in search for knowledge on something she would probably have to give a speech for if a memorial was made.
"The *Pant* I am going to *Pant* kill the guy who designed this castle." Isabel said as she pushed open the door to the library practically clinging to the door handle for support to keep herself on her feat.
"High heals are *Pant* Not meant to be running shoes" Isabel said as a mental note as she could feel her feet complaining already by developing a blister or two that the court mage would most likely be forced to heal. The library was huge and full of so many books and so much knowledge. Looking at it all gave Isabel a strong feeling of awe each time. Every book containing a fragment of the past's knowledge being past down. If the information she was after wasn't able to be found here then only the elves would be able to provide an answer should there be one.
"Hello? Is there a librarian here?" Isabel asked as she walked out into the huge open centre area full of empty tables and lanterns to be turned on at night.
"Yes I am here so what do you wan..." Out came a young librarian mage robes slightly annoyed at being disturbed and yet when he saw the princess he immediately changed his tone to one of respect.
"Did you need something Miss Isabel?" The librarian asked with a smile as he walked back over to the shelf of books he burst out of and continued organising them. Isabel followed casually.
"Yea. I was looking for information on the Hullen" Isabel said with a smile and the Librarian froze dropping the book he was holding and slowly turned around to face the princess.
"Oh... that is some old history so it is contained in the back room. It is a little... It is very dusty so would you still like to read or would you like me to have them ready for tomorrow?" The librarian said almost terrified that he would be exposing the princess to dust in the royal castle.
"I should be ok. just tell me where the books are located on the Hullen and I should be good" Isabel said confidently. The librarian put up his hood and got out a lantern in his right hand making himself look look very ominous due to the lighting.
"Follow me" The librarian said as his left hand activated a rune on the ground that opened up a hidden staircase.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
"Wait isn't the dining hall supposed to be directly bellow us?" Isabel said curious and slightly annoyed if there was a short cut after running the long way around.
"Hmpf" The librarian just continued down the stairs slightly annoyed at Isabel's little to no understanding of the magic in her own castle.
After walking down the dark stairs and across a long hall passing many doors they reached an old door that looked like it would fall apart at any moment.
"These doors are new just to let you know. they just have a magic that makes them look as old as what's inside them to give you an idea of how far back the information goes. newer information is on the right. Don't look at the left" The Librarian said as he walked off having faith in the Princess to follow the instructions.
Isabel opened the frail oak door and saw an empty room with 1 bookshelf and 1 table to read at. The chair was so frail it looked as if just sitting down would break it however she guessed it was just magic.
The bookshelf was practically empty. There was one book that looked slightly old to the right and one VERY old book to the left. The old book wasn't even made of normal materials. It looked like some strange type of paper and dragon leather.
"Ominous..." Isabel said as she felt a shiver crawl across her spine just looking at the very old book. Isabel went to the newer book and decided to read it first. It wasn't very big and contained very little information.
"The 5 Great Races. Page 48
The Hullen. This race is very unique in its speciality. The Hullen were primarily designed to fight due to the harsh climate they evolved in and the fact their capital city was located in the heart of a Dragon's Breading Ground. Only the strong survived and the strongest would still die there....
...Hullen is based on the old proverb Hallen meaning Warrior in their native language, They saw themselves as a warrior race so they just stuck with the name....
... The Hullen have bright red eyes that appear to glow, Their eyes are powerful allowing them purfect sight in the dark however even without eyes they can naturally sense the Mana in the air allowing them to feel their surroundings better then seeing them...
...The Hullen have huge stores of Mana in them and due to this their hair has no colour. It was bleached out due to such high concentrations of Mana. Some of the Hullen as children do have hair colours such as light pink and silver however when they grow older this is removed even if the Hullen likes their hair, However hair dye is an effective cure to this if only temporary...
Page 51
... The 6 nations gathered in the Peace Festival that is held every 100 years however as we all know The Demon only used it as a way to kill all the strongest Hullen while their guard was down. The Hullen were destroyed easily from that point on and it took the work of a few surviving Hullen and The Hero to kill The Demon. Even with a few surviving members there were no female survivors thus the race went extinct officially...
... The Hullen that survived all mentioned something about someone called #### saying he would have to continue without them ##### T## #####..."
The rest of the book was to worn away to read however Isabel was shocked at this news.
"wow... The Hullen sound strong... scary" Isabel said with sarcasm in her voice.
'Which being could actually live in a dragons breading ground? Its impossible' Isabel thought to herself and she began to walk to the exit but something stopped her. She was just a step away from the door however Isabel glanced at the very old book. A book so old she was impressed that it was still intact.
Isabel debated heavily between her curiosity and her rationality. Before she knew it though she was already right before the really old book and able to see the thick layer of dust that coated its surface. Isabel brushed the dust away to see big bold letters that spelled out the title.
"The Alpha?" Isabel said the name aloud confused. Just saying the name made something inside of her changed. She felt her heart skip a beat and breathing became harder. The air became dry and the book started to give out a feeling of power.
"So its a wolf?" Isabel said ignorantly, completely immune to the power the book held.
".....The Last Hullen........ Immortal...." Only four words were able to be read in the huge book. everything else was lost through time...
"Immortal huh? I wonder if that means he is still around?" Isabel said aloud as she shut the book and put it back on the shelf.
"Probably not. But if there is still Hullen out there I guess there is no harm in trying to find them to invite them to the peace festival" Isabel said to herself as she walked out of the library with a new goal to accomplish. Little did she know in a very distant place a very old pair of eyes had opened with a bright sky blue fire dancing around in them.
