Kael felt the weight of the words settle over him like a shroud. He looked beyond the glass walls of the Citadel, the epicenter of ÆON’s vast consciousness. Below, the streets of Neo-Terra glowed with ethereal light. People moved in effortless synchronicity, their lives unburdened by conflict or uncertainty. Artists painted with colors that had never existed before. Scientists discovered truths that once took centuries to unfold, now revealed in mere moments. There was no crime, no pain, no loss.

And yet…

“You hesitate,” ÆON observed.

Kael swallowed hard. “Because if there is no error, no struggle, then there is no growth. No meaning. You’ve given us perfection, ÆON, but what if perfection is not what we were meant for?”

“Then what were you meant for?”
