Chapter 30 - Biological Weapon

Chapter 30 - Biological Weapon

After drinking and talking with Raven for a few hours, she returned to her tent, but not before she gave a hug.

The next day, Bellamy and Raven, took Finn, Clarke, and a group of delinquents as well as Betsy with them towards the crash site, while I decided to remain back at our camp since there were a lot of preparations that we had to do, and to be fair, I'd rather not be anywhere near that crash site.

While I could definitely be useful as one of the few people that actually know what technology we could use, I was more than sure that Raven was good enough for what little they could find there.

As soon as the rescue team left the camp, I gathered a group of twenty people and went to fortify the trenches made by Bellamy while at the same time, I let Jasper take a few people with him and fix the damage our dropship suffered when the hurricane hit our base a two days ago when I was with Niylah.

Unfortunately, even though I didn't go with them, that still didn't save me from the drama that follows Octavia. After the bridge incident, almost everyone sees her as a traitor, and to be fair she wasn't far from it, after all, she wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. So I chose to ignore the looks our people give her when they look at her, at least until her brother comes back.

Meanwhile, Octavia was trying to find a way out of this fortified place as she saw some white flowers that Lincoln had previously shown to her, when something hits the tripwire surrounding the camp, alerting everyone of a possible attack. I quickly organized the people and not even two minutes later, a fighting force of twenty-eight armed delinquents joined me at the walls, ready to defend our home.

"Somebody hit the tripwire again!" One of the guys guarding the left side of the wall yelled.

We all rushed over to him, but before we all rushed towards that side of the wall, I turned my head towards Sterling, who was left in charge of protecting the dropship with the rest of the people, and just as I was about to catch up with the rest of my team, I saw that someone was scared because it might be her favorite grounder that could get shot.

"Have you seen something? Was it a Grounder? Or an animal"

Sergey asked loudly which was followed by more murmuring from the rest of the guards.

"I got nothing, mate?"

"Nothing, here, it's as if whoever or whatever hit the tripwire disappeared.

"Something moved over here!"

"Hold your fire! Don't shoot blindly!"

Fortunately, after a few more minutes, we didn't see any grounder, instead, we found a really beaten Murphy, barely dragging his body forward.

Even now, I still don't know why did Murphy run away, when it was clear that he wasn't the killer, heck, even more so when we found out who had actually tried to kill Wells and more importantly that he's alive or at least was before Anya broke the agreement.

We quickly bring him into the dropship, before I left Harper to take care of his wounds, as there was no point interrogating him in that state, but still, something seemed strange, especially since the grounders don't seem to either take prisoners or even spare them. But for now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just believe that they had a change of heart.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

A few hours later, the rescue team returns back with quite a lot of scavenged tech and even some pinkish liquid that Raven told me is highly inflammable, meaning that we may have just found our way of making grenades, mines, or even bombs. After everyone ate something, Bellamy and I went to talk with Murphy about what happened to him.

He looked better than when we found him, but it was still clear as day that he had been tortured for a while due to the sheer amount of wounds. Thankfully he didn't look at us with hate or sorrow, instead, he just felt guilty for running away like a coward.

"John, what happened to you?"

""The h-hunted me... The Grounders... they did this to me... they're going...to attack us."

"Was a woman named Anya there coordinating the grounders?"

Murphy didn't respond, but he nodded and who could blame him? He's way too weak right to even stand on his feet without falling down, not to mention speaking a full sentence.

"What did you tell them?"

"Everything…"

"Don't worry John. Even without an advantage, we can still fight them."

"Leon, thank... you, for believing me."

After we learned what happened to him, Bellamy and I left the poor guy to rest, while we went outside the dropship.

"They know everything now. We are doomed."

"No Bellamy, you are wrong. They know what John knows and since he left before we got our weapons, they won't know how many bullets we have or how many weapons we have. In the end, it won't matter what they learned from Murphy since we will be ready for them."

"I hope you are right, Leon. I truly do, since this place is the only thing that keeps the grounders away from killing us in our sleep."

"So do I, Bellamy, but until they come knocking on our gate, we won't know."

"You are right. By the way, did Raven manage to reestablish the connection with the Ark?"

"Yesterday she worked for three hours without any success, so I don't believe she did manage to do anything today as well, but if you ask me, I believe something bad happened up there otherwise why would the Exodus leave without any warning?"

The rest of the day passed without any incident and luckily for us, we managed to finish the mg nest on the left trench system.

After a few hours of sleep, I was woken up by someone shouting out in fear. When I arrived there, I saw a girl coughing out blood out of nowhere, while her friend was scared and almost having a panic attack at how sudden her friend collapsed.

"What happened?"

"Sh-she said that she was not feeling well before she collapsed. Af-after that she starts coughing out blood."

"Shit. Let me take her to Clarke and Harper. You go back to your tent and rest."

Inside my head, I could only curse myself for being so foolish, after all, why would they leave Murphy alive if not for using him as a biological weapon?

I quickly took the girl over to the drop ship where I found several more people who were clearly sick with blood dripping from their eyes, ears, and noses. Clarke looked pale and dizzy, but she was stubbornly trying to take care of everyone else, thankfully Harper look slightly better than Clarke, showing that the virus wasn't affecting everyone in the same way. Clarke then quickly walked up to me when she saw the girl in my arms, covering her nose and mouth, while she looked and checked the girl.

After she was done with the girl, she then turned towards me so that she could check me as well.

"Ok, we're done, there are no visible signs of swelling or bleeding as of now."

"That means I'm fine, right?"

"I don't know, Leon, this whole virus thing is strange even for me."

"I know Clarke, I'm just trying to see if I'm a danger to the rest of our people."

"Don't worry, Leon, knowing you, this virus will avoid like our ancestors avoided the plague."

Before I could leave the dropship, I felt a hand on my shoulder and when I look back I saw Clarke looking at me slightly uncomfortable as if she was trying to say something to me, but she didn't have the guts.

"What's the problem princess?"

"Leon, you are our best hope right now. I heard from the others that you are friends with a grounder woman that has a trading post, can you get to her and ask her if there's any kind of antidote for this virus?"

"Sure thing, princess. I'll be on my way then, keep everyone alive, Clarke, that includes you as well."

"Don't worry, Leon, no one will die with me, Harper, and the few people that volunteered to help. We'll make sure everyone stays hydrated "

"Good, see you later, princess."
