ACT 1: EXPOSITION
“Subject number twenty two is in position.”
“Power the artifact.”
Dr. Rudolph D. Edgars’ beady eyes bore into subject twenty two. He had not slept in two days and it showed by the swelling of his face. Time is of the essence, however, as much, much more than his life is depending on the success of his experiment.
Deep rumblings reverberated throughout the lab, causing the already dim lightbulbs dangling from the ceiling to flicker and sway. The seven scientists momentarily paused as dust spilt downward from above.
Wwhhhhhirrrrr...
“The artifact is powered.”

Dr. Edgars wiped his brow free from sweat with his forearm and took a sharp breath.
“Engage.”
Ca-CHHH!
The incubator containing the infant labeled subject twenty two spun and collapsed in on itself. Brilliant white light shone through the cracks of the holding unit blinding the host of scientists.
“Status!”
“Subject twenty two’s tether has been shattered.”
“Vital signs?”
“Negative.”
Silence permeated the room. Exasperation was mixing in with the exhaustion that was already more than abundant within the room.
Dr. Edgars voice trembled noticeably as he spoke.
“Prepare subject number twenty three.”
