Can I survive this?

I didn't want to save him.

I shouldn't save someone who was just trying to kill me but I couldn't just leave him to die, it isn't who I am. I was taught better than and just because of my position now doesn't mean I should let all my beliefs go down the drain after years of living by them.

Without quick thinking, I grab him and lunge out of the way evading most of its attack but gaining a large gash trailing down my back. I didn't have time to study about the pain.

I need to act fast.

Turning to the man, his helmet is no longer on his head. It wasn't a man but a teen boy who seemed to be the age of 15 - 17. The realization slowly dawns on me that a boy his age was sent here to kill others and send them to an end.

His hair's soft brown curls now ruffled and slightly fizzed, clings to his face from the sweat dripping down his face. "I…I didn't want to kill you." His hazel eyes widen in pure terror as his voice cracks uncontrollably. "If I didn't do what they said-" He cut himself off as his eyes drifted behind me.

I instantly know what he is looking at. Grabbing his sides, I pull him to the side with me as we roll out of the way in time. The Kuyu beast comes crashing down with a relentless force, crashing the floor beneath its weight.

"Shit!" I hiss as my back and head slam against a tree, for a moment blurring my vision as blood glides through my hair and down into my face.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Any moment now, I'm sure of it, I am moments away from fully blacking out, but what can I do? I can't run away, leaving this boy here to die at such a young age, after all, he did come here so he wouldn't die, so it will all mean nothing.

I glanced around through the haze that was slowly creeping up into my vision, hearing the Kuyu beast trying to pull its claws out of the floor it had just come down on. Grunting, I pick myself up, using my knee and leg to support my entire body.

Then I spot it.

A sword!

"Hide!" I shout as I turn to the boy, but he is already gone.

How can I be mad that he left? He's just trying to survive, and I'm sure that is all every single one of them in this period is trying to do, survive. So, if this is the place I would have to live in until I get to go back, I will have to survive as well.

The Kuyu roars, its thunderous voice whipping through the air, sending branches flying and scattering rubble and blades of grass in its wake, as it rips its foot out of the floor and hurls right for me.

Adrenaline pulsates through my body, a crackling tension that electrifies every muscle and fiber in my body, as I snap my body to the sword and dash towards it, my legs move on there forgetting about the pain that once hindered my body.

And with one swift motion, I slide on the dirt, yanking the sword from the floor and slashing it towards the Kuyu the beast at once but as I would expect, it manages to block it with its large claws.

The two forces collide, a blinding spark igniting between them, momentarily overwhelming my vision before fading. I know I stand no chance against this beast, yet my heart races. The sheer power radiating from it is undeniable as its claws inch closer to my face.

I can't die here.

I can't let them happen-

A glint. The same glint of a sword right behind and then the eyes, soft brown burning with rage. It's the same boy before, above it coming down with a new sword clasped between his palms.
