The misty armless Arkan sounded off an eerie roar out of frustration rather than pain. The Frost Elf then threw the one-handed axe onto its face, which made it falter, in which the Elf unsheathed a long dagger from his right hip and quickly stabbed into the Arkan's core which was nestled in its naval point, breaking it in the process. He then moved on to the bear, sheathing his dagger and grabbed his axe from the dissipating Arkan.
Nassaria's keen vision picked up the frozen jaw on the bear, probably hit by some spell while Icekiss was battling the Arkan, when suddenly it rushed towards Icekiss but got hindered by another icicle spell that hit it from his blind spot, blinding it this time.
Icekiss didn't hesitate and took the opportunity. He quickly chopped at its neck, his voice roaring an elven war cry. The runes of his axe turned bright white and promptly faded after the frozen bears head fell on top of his feet, which he crushed with a stomp. It too soon dissipated into mist.
The divers around him cheered, but Nassaria watched as more enemies emerged through the hole left by the two dead warriors. In comparison, the Elf tried to plug it as more enemies suddenly appeared from the sides. Shadows of themselves, the cursed ones, only savoured the death of the living to feed their master, the Elghinn'Yorli.
Suddenly an agonizing cry of pain alarmed her; she looked towards its direction and saw the other contractor of this expedition, Elene Frostbreath lying on the ground being pulled by a 6 legged grey panther with a scorpion's tail.
It was the Frost Elf's sister, a sorcerer who now left a trail of blood from her belly as she tried to fight off her captor. Meanwhile, a red-eyed grey gob assassin used his companion's distraction to move on to the next target, which was the main healer. The elite assassin was about to deal with the Moon Elf druid who threw a spell at him, which it dodged expertly to the side.
Nassaria chose her target and quickly sprinted towards the Gob assassin, who was only a few feet away. It sensed her and dodged her first slash to his spine, but she was lucky enough to clip his foot using her other sword. Another diver, a Beastkin ranger, followed up on her attack and shot an arrow to its head from its blind spot. The arrow plunged into its face, which slowed it down extensively, and she quickly finished it off by cutting off its head. Nevertheless, the damage was already done; the mage was down, although not dead. She was bleeding heavily.
"Heal her," her brother shouted from the rear in common speech as he engaged another enemy. The Moon Elf druid looked flustered, then ran to his sister, who whimpered slightly as her body was littered with several stab wounds and claw marks. The panther was now mist as another Diver luckily intercepted it, saving her in the process.
Stolen novel; please report.
Nassaria stayed with the druid and kept his back protected while he healed Frostbreath. The battle kept on for several minutes as the expedition force rounded to only a dozen; still, they kept fighting in the hope that that the swarm emerging from the Elghinn'Yorli would end soon.
Yet, she knew the fickle side of lady luck. They were in the unmarked territory, and the nearest secure passages were still half a day sprint.
Regardless she fought off any enemies who got too close to the druid, and finally, she watched the Shield Wall break. Her allies were now fighting in small pockets. Tears of defeat trailed down her pale face cleaning some sweat and blood as she thought of her mother and siblings.
Her pale blue eyes scanned the battlefield and watched several of her own crew of five die like leaves falling on an autumn's day. First, her dive captain fell victim to a grey ape whose blows cracked his head like a nut as he tried to shield his lover. The female Dark Elf sorcerer went ballistic, screaming curses and dealt with the ape, who quickly ended up in a charred state before turning into mist. She was late though, parts of her lover's brain were smushed on the yellow concrete bricks. The mage lost her senses and tried to scoop his mind back gently into his head which she lay across her lap. Nassaria wanted to scream at her, but her voice stopped mid-stroke. The sorcerer suddenly spurted blood; three arrows appeared on her back like sewing needles embedded on a cushion.
From a distance, three white Lil'Noamuth rangers lowered their bows simultaneously and eyed their next helpless target as the dying sorcerer fell on top of her lover, a bitter and bloody smile on her lips before she took her last breath.
Nassaria looked away. She then screamed at the heavens and rushed towards the nearest enemy, slashing at the enemy, killing it then unto the next. She killed and fought for several minutes, but blood loss and exhaustion finally drained her.
Luckily, she caught movement from the corner of her eyes, a white Gob archer that had already taken aim at her. It swiftly let loose the arrow; Nassaria shifted her body, hoping to dodge in time but fell screaming on top of the two dead divers.
Meanwhile, two white Lil'Noamuth engaged the Frost Elf warrior wielding the Runic Axe. Though it didn't take long for Icekiss to take care of them, yet the task of taking on multiple foes took a toll on his body as more opponents ran towards him. He sighed then roared a battle cry, which his Clan would be proud of when suddenly the enemy all stood still as if they hit an invincible wall. He swiftly chopped an enemy's head, then held his shield tightly and hoped that his suspicion did come true. Sadly it did as the cursed mist behind the enemy churned like boiling water.
Soon a tiny red-eyed figure with distinct features such as a large gut and a long pointy nose emerged from the mist. Instead of being covered in grey or white mist, it was yellow mist, which made many surviving Divers gasp in trepidation. Tiny slit looking eyes observed the battlefield before it laid its vision on the still-standing Frost Elf warrior, a chuckle emitted from the Gob's mouth spewing mist in the process. "Finally," it said in a wheezy voice.
Then the yellow misty Gob clapped its huge clawed hands gradually as it walked towards Icekiss, till it stood ten feet away from him with a giant grin on its face.
"Finally.." it said in a louder tone with a hint of excitement.
