Detective Ellis walked down the grody hallway, its tattered wallpaper was old ten years ago. He pulled the small black square out of his pocket, it had a bright blue screen and its light lit out above the face. A small projection came out of it, it formed the shape of a small man.
"Marie Adamson, twenty two years old, reported missing from her work for the past three days, apartment manager went to do a wellness check, door was barred. Rent was paid so they quit trying."
"Where did she work?" he rubbed his stubbled chin, he thought of this side of town, more murders than downtown. The police bots dont patrol over here very often.
"Good Eat's, small eatery down 5th, little nicer part of town compared to this..." The small blue man coming out the pack let his words trail off. Ellis walked to the end of the hallway and checked the number on the door, he knocked but he really wasn't sure why. He reached the handle and gave it a tug... Nothing. Pushed in hard and nothing as well.
"Devon, get a police unit down here." Ellis sighed and put the square away in his pocket. He reached his hand out and rubbed his head, ruffling his hair. He was getting older, more tired, more out of shape, it had been years since he had done real police work. Since the androids have come around, they have done most of the heavy lifting. He thought of the drop rate in crime, no one wanted to break the law anymore because of the bots. You can't outrun them, you aren't smarter than them, you can't fight them. Perfect little things they were.
Ellis didn't really care to much, to be honest they made his life pretty easy, a police officer hasent died in years of duty, any bot has to take the shot if someone is stupid enough to try to shoot at them anyway. The bots dont miss.
Ellis pulled a small metal case out of his front pocket, a small stick inside of it he put to his lips and he took a breath and released it but nothing came out. He sat for a moment in silence, tapped the stick on the case and put it away again. He shook his head in frustration.
The police unit showed up, the black stripes on its side with one white one down the middle, it mostly looked human, but they gave the police ones strange body paint to make them "Distinguishable". He has a lighter skin tone, with dirty blonde hair on the top pulled to the side. Other than the large blue centers of the eyes, and well the strange body paint on the police units they looked just like everyone else.
"Hello detective Ellis, how may I assist you today?" The Android asked. The detective let his thoughts wander for a short moment, they even sounded just like people, Most of them sounded exactly like normal people, walked like normal people. Hell, some of them even have crazy emotions like people, Ellis was thinking to himself.
"Pop this door open would you, I'm looking for a missing person." Ellis asked.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"Right away officer." The android turned to the door and reached his hand out and grabbed the handle, it didn't turn. The android reached his other hand out and braced the door, he gave a swift push and the door smashed open. Ellis's head started to ring and he had to process what was happening.
"GET DOWN!" The police bot that blew the door open spun and pushed Ellis out of the way, and then was swiftly blown away by a blast, it was left as a pair of feet stuck to the floor. Ellis was not expecting the boom, so his ears were ringing, and he hit his ass hard. He shook it off for a moment and reached down and grabbed his gun, he popped the clip to make sure it was loaded, he also preyed it still shot fine, he was cursing himself for how little he had shot the thing in the last five years.
"NYPD, come out with your hands up!" He reached his gun in the room and cleared both sides of the door and saw nothing inside. It was completely dark, but the smell hit him. It stunk, like... someone was dead inside for three days. He coughed hard and it rocked his body, again cursing himself. He was soft, letting the smell get the better of him.
"Ellis, I've got a bot squad on the way, ten minutes tops." his pocket chimed up at him. "You should wait for backup."
"I don't think I can, I imagine if there's anyone inside of here they are a drugged out lunatic, who shots a poli...."
Ellis was cut off but the sound of a hammer being pulled back.
"Put down the gun." A woman's voice filled the apartment. It was still pitch black Ellis could not see a thing.
"Listen Ma'am, I jus...." Another shot ran through the apartment, it shot the gun out of Ellis's hands and his ears killed and his hands felt like they were on fire, he bent over and shook his hands. He looked up and over after a short moment and a woman was standing with a pistol aimed at him, but this time he saw some light fill the room... Her eyes were glowing blue and lighting up the room.
Ellis took a few deep breaths and starred for a longer moment than he should have
"Override code 456..." He was interrupted once again.
"That wont work..." The girl looked nervous, but she was an android, how could this happen? They can't attack a human. He saw behind her, and there was a dead woman on the floor, she had a hole straight through her head. The scene made Ellis' stomach turned, his old cop instincts had shown up just in time because he was able to stand the sight without stepping back.
"Wha.... What happened here? Did you shoot her.... You couldn't have shot her...." He looked up at the bot, she had almost purple hair, her expression still strained, she was feeling "Nervous" if she could actually feel it.
"I'm done being used! Get out of my way, I'm leaving!” She was shouting, her voice loud, almost sounding like she was out of breath.
"You.... You are under arrest for suspected murder of Marie Adamson, assault on an officer with a deadly weapon.... and whole lot of other things..." Ellis stood dumbfounded. He didn't know how this was possible. No android had ever attacked a human.
"Am I a human?" The bot lowered her weapon. She stood silent for a moment.
"No, you are an android, you need to shut down." The woman gave a quick smile.
"Murder, the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. You just called me human Detective Ellis." She raised the gun back at the Detective.
