'E was a ball of earth that rolled around with a large marble eye and 'Er name was Marble. At least, that's what 'er new owner called 'im. 'E liked being called that. It was much better than 'er old owner, who called 'im nothing.
Marble rolled across the floor of 'er bunk. The room was empty, and 'e guessed 'er owner had woken up earlier and left without 'er noticing.
'E could feel the energy of seither flowing through 'er body. The night had fully recharged 'er circuit and she was ready for another five days without rest. The door to the room had been left opened, leaking light in from the outside, as per usual whenever 'e rested. 'E rolled 'emself out of the room, following the brightness into the corridor.
In 'er old home, there was not much light. Just a dark box that had the space to move a little forward, a little backward, a little left, and a little right. So 'e was glad to have the chance to dust 'er coat.
"Oh, hello, Marble."
'E turned to find the Nice Girl. The gnome was smart enough to understand words and orders. It was, after all, how 'e was created. However, 'e was bad with names. 'E was sure that eventually, 'er magic circuits would reconfigure themselves to remember more names, but for now, just knowing 'e was Marble was good enough.
"Are you looking for Lcue?" She was speaking of 'er owner so 'e rolled in a circle. "Well, she went to see Aeldle off. She's in the garage." The nice girl rubbed 'er head and walked off.
Marble was made with the ability to find 'er way around places and recognise information. What people called a spy gnome. Even if 'e did not know what a 'garage' did, 'e still knew where it was and how to get there within their circuits.
On the way over, 'e made sure to roll over as much of the dirt on the ground as possible. Like all golems, he could heal himself over time with earthen particles sticking to 'im. The Cage People had cracked 'er shell but it had sealed up well over the days. Besides, the people living with 'im seems happy that the dirt was gone, or at least, that was what 'e deduced based on their faces. 'E had slowly been learning expressions by comparing it to what 'e 'emself felt. 'E thinks some of the conclusions were wrong, but 'e was sure 'e will get them correct over time.
The door to the garage opened as 'e neared and Sad Man stepped out. The man in the white jacket waved to the little ball with a smile before turning to look back into the garage.
"I'll see you later, Arolnd. Don't go dying on me."
"Yeah, yeah," Red Hair replied from inside. "Not if you die first."
Stolen novel; please report.
'E did not when them to die. But 'e felt that they were not being serious. After spending so much time with them, 'e felt like 'e was starting to understand 'jokes'.
As the Sad Man walked away towards the bunks, Marble rolled past him and into the garage where Red Hair, Tall Girl, and 'er owner was standing behind a large container on wheels, loading boxes into the larger box called a 'truck'. The larger box could move, much like Marble could, but only in a single direction, which made the larger box more useless than 'im, in 'er opinion.
"Hey, Marble," 'er owner greeted. "We're not doing any training today. You can go play, if you want."
'E was quite glad that 'e had the day off. But at the same time, saddened at not getting to spend more time with owner. 'Er previous owner was not as gentle as 'er new one. He would break open 'er shell and rewire every single circuit in 'er body to implant new commands. Even though it was the fastest way to teach 'im new tricks instead of waiting for 'er circuit to self-change, it was extremely painful and disorienting. But no matter how much 'e asked him to stop, 'er old owner can't seem to listen. In the end, 'e always felt like 'e had lost something after each session of "teaching". 'E had already learnt that 'er new owner needed 'im to bring something called a 'chip' to a place. But it was not the same chip the Sad Man always ask 'im to get for him to eat. 'E was now trying to learn where to get the chips to. It was going to take a few more days to learn it, but 'e was willing to work hard to make 'er new owner happy, especially since 'er new owner made sure that it did not hurt 'im.
'E then decided to visit 'er friend in the workshop so 'e spun around 'er owner's legs to say goodbye. The latter patted 'er head.
As marble rolled away to go about 'er day, 'e turned back briefly to see Tall Girl and owner look at each other. They had that face that Sad Man and Nice Girl gave. But 'e had not been able to figure out what it meant. Their faces would go red when they do. 'E remembered that people's faces turn red when it gets hot and that they needed to stick water to their faces to get better like how 'e uses dirt. 'E hoped they were stuck with enough water. But just in case, 'e made an effort to remember to keep 'er eye on them.
Again, 'e made sure to collect more dirt on 'er way. As 'e got slightly bigger, 'e was able to think a little better. 'E wondered if 'er ability to think had anything to do with 'er size. The larger golems seemed so smart whenever they saw each other. They also had more parts, like larger faces, arms, and legs. Marble wondered if one day 'e will grow big enough to learn how to have more face space, arms, and legs.
As 'e entered the workshop, the sitting giant turned its head to look at 'im. Reggie. 'E remember its name because they were friends. They were also the same, having not had a name before meeting their new owners. And since 'e felt 'er name was so special to 'er, its name must be special to it too.
Reggie raised its giant hand and waved slowly and Marble spun around to say "Hello". 'E proceeded to roll all around the perimeter of Reggie, with the robot turning its head to follow 'er. 'E was not sure if it understood what 'e was trying to do, but 'e liked how it made 'im feel when they spend time together. They were also going on a job together. 'E was looking forward to that.
Before, 'e was told that mechs were bad and would kill 'im if 'e got too close. But Reggie was not bad. Maybe not all mechs were bad. Maybe some were like 'im, just wanting to roll around and do stuff.
'E thinks the people called the stuff 'fun'.
