Chapter Five: The rest of the voyage.

Chapter Five: The rest of the voyage.

When I wake up, I find nothing much has changed. I end up eating the morning meal, then head up onto the deck and continue stitching together the shirt. Aladu doesn't get back to me before midday meal, and afterwards I manage to get another two or three hours before he gets back to me. When I see him he is carrying an armful of some form of cotton or wool.

“Hey ,Aladu! I see you got the stuffing I asked you to track down.” I state in an excited voice.

“Yes, and you owe me a silver and lessons on how to repair damage in some cloth items.” He tells me matter of factly with a proud look on his face.

“A silver? I don't remember promising a silver.” I tell him

“Well the person who had this stuff made me pay them a silver. Therefore you owe me a silver for compensation,” he says, putting the stuffing in my bag I have beside me.

I sigh, tuck away the nearly finished shirt and pull out the doll. I gently put some stuffing in, and show him how to finish up dolls. I continue on to grab some scrap cloth, make a tear in it and show him how to repair that. Then he asks a question that makes me think.

“Would any of this work for fixing people? Like there is healing magic and all, but humans are essentially much more complicated dolls right?”

I consider his question for a second and reply, “In the world us Outsiders come from, magic isn't a thing and that is actually a way to patch up some of the worse wounds a person may get quite frequently. The stitches are put on so that the person can heal the opening together easier, and are removed before the wound fully finishes healing. So I guess that the answer to your question is ‘Yes’.”

After that he doesn't seem to have any more questions, and the day continues with him watching me stitch together the shirt until evening meal. Evening meal passes, and I choose to sleep ingame rather than leave. In the morning I hang out with the gang for an hour or two before heading back on deck. Coincidentally Aladu arrives from below deck just as I finish the shirt. I call him over and have him try it on. The shirt is slightly too big and I go to take it back and resize it, when it suddenly resizes before my eyes as if by magic. Aladu doesn't look too shocked, so I assume it's something that comes with the world in this game. It makes sense for a timesaving point of view if not a realism one. A skill notification comes up

New Skill!

[Clothing Crafting (Fabric)] - Level 1

* An important skill for tailors. This skill is for making various pieces of clothing out of fabric

* Active: Allows the user to space out and focus on other things while sewing, at the cost of some quality. Higher levels lower the quality loss.

* Passive: Gives the User knowledge on how to make clothing out of fabric.

I smile at my skill acquisition, and look up to tell Aladu I would need the shirt back later to dye it… only to find aladu missing, presumably off to show off his fancy new shirt made by his favourite tailor. Or at least that better be what he's doing, given that I didn't finish talking to him before he left. Since I can't look into the shirt, I checked out the doll to see how it turned out.

Fabric Doll.

* A basic fabric doll made out of black fabric. This doll was handcrafted by the Adventurer ‘Fay’

* Durability: 100/100

A fairly simple description. No bonuses of any kind, and what I hope is pretty good durability. I don't really have anything to reference it on as starter clothes are indestructible, and I don't have any other fabric items to use as reference. It's rather cute that the description says that it was handcrafted by me, but it's odd that it calls me an adventurer. Overall, I like what I've done. I don't know what I’m going to do with it but it was fairly good practise.

Throughout the rest of the voyage I manage to retrieve the shirt, craft a second one, and try different stitching methods on some scrap cloth. By the start of the last day, when land was visible on the horizon I managed to level my [Sewing] skill to level three. I mostly stuck to hanging out with the brothers and Icrasi, and managed to win in a couple rounds of the Yahtzee game, which I finally remembered the name of, ‘Tchsay’. I learned a little more about Icrasi during this time. One, while she drinks the Non-Alcoholic beverage ‘Blaze’, it's purely because she has been banned from drinking alcohol. Two, she came on this expedition to be a hunter and help keep the future settlement safe.

I also learned a little about the brothers. They came from a fairly large family, and were setting out to be out of the shadow of their older siblings. They were the youngest siblings and also twins, not that you could tell from their looks. Aladu has wanted to be an adventurer since he first learned of the trade. His mother objected to this, and when he left he told her he would be a craftsman. Delos never really told his mother what he planned to be, just vaguely saying he would try to be some form of leader. She probably thought he meant some form of community leader, but apparently he has had an interest in leading explorations into ancient ruins and dungeons in the new world.

At around midday, just after the midday meal, the ship drops anchor off the coast. Doors that previously were unnoticeable in the ships hull open, and some rather large rowboats pop out. The first boat is filled up by the expedition leader, and a mix of Players and NPCs. They are most likely going to scout the area for a site to start building. The second boat is loaded with tents and building materials. A cannon like object is mounted to the center. The third boat contains a mix of people and supplies, and the fourth and final boat is loaded up with just a pilot, supplies, and another cannon.

Not much happens for the next hour, with the supply boats sticking near the ship, and people looking on in excitement. Finally the scout boat comes back, mostly empty, and the go ahead is given. We load the boat up with supplies, and all four boats begin shuttling supplies to the shore. After another hour of waiting, the rest of the people begin to be transported, and I manage to go with the brothers on the third boat over. When we get to the land, several players are being over dramatic and are kissing the ground, while others are looking for a spot to set up their tent when they get one. I don't think the latter realize that we will be sleeping in communal locations again for the time being.

Aladu begins looking around the area for new adventures, and I follow him looking for herbs and berries to use in future. I manage to find some vibrant red berries, and a plant that has a green pigment that looks close enough to the ones in the dyeing vat's guide. I also grab some various other plants to determine the use of, and requisition a notebook to begin a herbology guide for the area. Aladu, having split up when I started grabbing herbs and berries, gets back to me with a bit of disappointment and realization in his eyes.

“I forgot to grab a weapon… and there wasn't really anything interesting near the site.” he says.

I smile and respond “Who knows what the future will hold. Maybe go requisition a sword or something, and tomorrow we can go search for creatures to make things with.”

He brightens up at my suggestion and runs off either to ask for a sword, or talk to his brother. Speaking of his brother, I don't know where he or Icrasi have gone off to. They can't have gotten far, so i don't worry too much.

Exploring the site, people are setting up pretty quickly. A smith has already marked out a spot for his forge, and placed his anvil. A main building is already being set up as absurd as that sounds, and the tents for sleeping are set up beside it. I decided to follow the blacksmith's example, and grab a piece of wood and stick it where I want my shop to be. I carve my name on it with my dagger, and tie a piece of black cloth around the top. Beside it I put down my dyeing equipment, and a request for a table to be made by the carpenter when they get the chance. After requesting the table, I begin to clear the site I'll be taking, and mark the corners with some sticks that I again tie some cloth to the top of. I don't manage to fully clear the area before mealtime is called, and everyone gathers around a series of campfires that were set up. We all hang out around the campfires until dark, when we eventually wander off to our respective sleeping areas.
