Tangled

Centuries in the past, a drop of sunlight falls from the sky down to the Earth, and a flower blossoms at the very spot the sunlight dropped. This flower’s legend stems around the idea of containing the power to heal. However, an old woman named Gothel finds the flower and discovers the healing power to occur as she sings a certain song. She uses it to keep herself young, and hides it to continuously return, and keep herself young.

As time goes by, the queen of a nearby kingdom falls seriously ill while impregnated. Upon rumor, the king sends his soldiers in search of the healing flower, to which they succeed. Gothel, in fear, rushes to hide, lacking the time to cover up the flower. The soldiers, therefore, find the flower, and carefully transport it to the queen for consumption. The queen magically heals and successfully gives birth to her daughter, however, Gothel kidnaps the baby to use her hair as the healing flower’s replacement. She was snuck over to a tower away from the kingdom, where the daughter grew up and was raised by Gothel, who continuously used her hair for youth. After years of confinement in the tower, the girl, named Rapunzel by Gothel, begins to feel jealous of Gothel and her ability to go out and explore at her will. She converses with her chameleon, Pascal, to pass time, along with painting and wandering about the tower. She’s seen a preview of the world through a window that Gothel uses to climb in and out of the tower, using Rapunzel’s hair. Rapunzel, however, couldn’t stop imagining life outside of the tower.

One day, she gets up and decides that she’s sick of waiting for something extravagant to happen, after getting rejected by Gothel to leave the tower. Rapunzel begs Gothel to go out on a 3-day journey to retrieve painting materials for her birthday, and uses that as her opportunity to escape.

With Pascal’s support, Rapunzel takes the biggest risk of her life, and guides herself out of the tower. In fear, Rapunzel carefully steps her bare foot onto the soft, moist, green grass below the tower. Filled with a wide variety of emotions, she begins to dance around the tower, only to feel heavy regret a few minutes later. Regardless, she ends her emotional journey with determination to continue her hunt for the reason behind the ‘lights’ on her birthday every year. Every year of her past, she’s sat in the tower, looking out the window, appreciating the floating lights, her wonder growing with every moment. On her journey, however, she’s confronted by a thief named Flynn Rider, who had stolen the princesses’ treasured tiara.

“Hey princess, you don’t look like your from around here. Where you coming from?”

“None of your business”, Rapunzel announces, standing her ground.

“Woah, that’s a lot of courage coming from someone with no form of self-defense,” hisses Flynn. Rapunzel looks to Flynn’s side and sees a wanted poster hung up on a tree, with a picture and accurate description of Flynn Rider himself, describing a satchel used to contain the princesses’ tiara.

“Ohh, wanted, are you Mr. Thief? Let’s make things simple. Hand over the tiara, or I’ll take it from you and expose you in the process.” Flynn laughed, and teased Rapunzel.

“I’d be surprised if you could even walk over here with all that hair weighing you down.” Rapunzel was furious, and charged at Flynn, leaving him almost no time to react. Rapunzel knocked him out cold, took back the tiara, and tied his mouth with his own satchel. Rapunzel threw Flynn over her back, which the Stabbington brothers feared Rapunzel for. Threatening to do the same, the Stabbington brothers left her alone in fear. On her walk, she eventually finds a building, looking like a restaurant from the outside. Upon attempting to walk inside, a bell rings, a bell Flynn Rider is specifically familiar with. He opens his eyes at that exact moment, having being awake for the past 10 minutes, and attempts to guide himself and Rapunzel out the door, unaware of a man blocking their path out. It doesn’t take long for the large, scary, pirate-looking men in the building to recognize that Rapunzel had captured Flynn Rider, the wanted criminal they all know so much about. They began to praise Rapunzel for her achievements, but jealous arose in them, and embarrassment of the reward going to a women scared them, and they began attempting to coerce Rapunzel into handing over Flynn Rider.  Rapunzel showed absolutely no fear, and seamlessly slipped past the bodyguard and escaped the so-called “restaurant”.

Flynn Rider, saved by Rapunzel, stuck around in hopes of paying back Rapunzel for saving him from the restaurant. After setting camp, Flynn Rider, whos real name is Eugene, sees his horse, Maximus glaring at him as he wakes up, attempting to drag Flynn Rider away. Flynn Rider resists Maximus, still wanting to pay Rapunzel back for her acts of courage to protect him, regardless of being a fugitive. Maximus, respecting Rapunzel’s bravery, agrees to help pay back Rapunzel along with Eugene. Rapunzel and Eugene, having fun with each other, see Gothel appear in the shadows. Gothel keeps Rapunzel safe, grabbing Eugene and hurting him, Rapunzel confesses to Eugene in her belief of being the lost princess. Eugene, expecting the news, took it well, and agreed to help her return herself to her true family. Gothel, overhearing this conversation, grabbed Eugune, taking him off the shore with Rapunzel barely grabbing onto the boat. Gothel did so to avoid witnesses in the kingdom. Eugune, now locked by chains, with Rapunzel attempting to save him, abused by Gothel, was worried for Rapunzel being used again for her hair. As Gothel begins to sing for her youth, Eugune uses his chains to cut off Rapunzel’s hair, disintegrating all the magic that Rapunzel’s hair contained. Gothel, unable to stay young, turns into a pile of ashes in front of both of them. Rapunzel, crying at Eugene’s slow death, attempts to save Eugene, unsuccessfully. Just as Eugene was about to die, a tear containing the last remaining magic of Rapunzel falls onto Eugene, reviving him and healing his wounds slightly. Eugene had confessed to Rapunzel of his debt to her, promising he’d fulfill her wishes one day. Rapunzel confesses she already has a favor to request of Eugene, asking him to marry her, after this long, 2-year adventure they had gone through together. Eugene, who had felt the same way about Rapunzel, agrees to the marriage, and they slowly begin their walk to the kingdom, to return Rapunzel to her true parents. Rapunzel and Eugene live happily together, married, which was Rapunzel’s idea of Eugene paying her back.
