My name Is Shirou Takahashi i was Born in shibuya in my world some people have Powers called Kether every Kether Is unique someone has a Kether that can control water or maybe someone has a Kether that can summon the dead…
But Guess Who was Born without a Kether? Those people are called commoners since most of the population as a Kether if they someone Who was Born without a Kether he gets bullied or even worse but that's not my case. I didn't go to school my family always wanted me to Just dissapear since i had a family Who was really famous for their Kether abilities but their second son so me was Born without a Kether and i was Just Useless….
"don't even try to join our family meeting! I don't care it's snowing get away you Useless bastard your sister and your Brother are way Better than you get away!" My mother shouted before slamming the Door in my face and leaving me alone while snowstorm got even worse… i Walked and walked asking myself why i was Born without a Kether if the God of this world hated me. I understood the Truth only years later, while walking in the snowstorm while i was about to surrend and fall i saw something i understood what i truly had to do in orders to survive…i saw a dagger and i was surronded by magic wolf Beast as i was about to die the danger Transformed into a guantlet i could feel for the First time in my Life that i could do something i punched One of the magic Beasts in che jaw Sending him fly in the air then the guantlet turned back into a dagger and i cutted the magic Beast troath as i Walked back home i got Beated up by my parents as i hugged the dagger scared they would take It away from me.. it was the only thing i ever had….
Back to us now my parents completely lefted i trained with the dagger even if i still don't know what It Is i found out i can let me copy other People Kether's if i meet the requirements and i can only use one Kether at time… i joined the division 4 of Kether control, you probably gonna be asking yourself what that I well let me answer you, the people with Kether can join divisions to become stronger and help out here in Tokyo by defeating magic Beasts. Today it was my free day and im Just going back to my dorm
As I stepped into my dorm, the warmth of the space enveloped me, a stark contrast to the chill outside. I kicked off my boots and dropped my bag near the door, the faint scent of instant ramen wafting through the air.
Suddenly, a blur of ashen hair rushed toward me.
“Takahashi!” Shirokawa exclaimed, her voice a sweet melody that danced through my ears. it was Akane Shirokawa
Before I could brace myself, she leapt into my arms, wrapping her petite frame around me with a surprising force. The softness of her body pressed against mine felt comforting. I chuckled, half-expecting her to pull back immediately out of shyness.
Instead, she nestled her head against my shoulder, her face hidden from view. The faint blush creeping across her cheeks radiated warmth even in this cold season.
“Shirokawa,” I said, trying to catch a glimpse of her expression. “What’s got you so worked up?”
She peeked up at me, those wide blue eyes sparkling like polished chestnuts. Her delicate features seemed even more pronounced in this moment—the soft curve of her lips forming an almost shy smile, the way her ashen hair framed her face like a halo.
“I just... wanted to see you,” she murmured, tightening her grip slightly.
I shook my head in amusement. Shirokawa had always been clingy around me—an endearing quirk that both annoyed and charmed me in equal measure. Her shy nature contrasted with how bold she became whenever we were alone. She always acted like a child despite being older than me by just a few years.
“What’s going on?” I leaned back slightly to get a better look at her. “You seem extra clingy today.”
Her gaze darted away for a moment before returning to meet mine. “Osamu said he was busy... thought you might be lonely.”
I smirked at that; it was typical of Osamu to think ahead like that while also trying to give us some time together without interference.
“So he sends you to babysit?”
Shirokawa pouted playfully but quickly hid it behind another hug, squeezing me tighter as if I would vanish if she loosened her grip.
“Not babysitting!” she protested softly, muffled against my shirt.
"So im the One that Needs to babysit you uh?" I laugh looking at her annoyed face by my statement
I wasn't really thankfull to Shirokawa i still remebered that She literaly acted like i didn't exist before i meet Osamu, probably becuase She know that i don't have a Kether
I chuckled again, shaking my head.
“Not babysitting!” she protested softly, muffled against my shirt.
I studied her for a moment, the way her eyes flickered with uncertainty yet sparkled with a warmth I couldn’t ignore. She had grown on me since those early days when she hardly acknowledged my existence. Back then, she saw me as just another commoner—a boy without a Kether, a boy who didn’t matter. Her dismissive glances felt like icy daggers at times.
Now, here she was, clinging to me as if I were her lifeline.
The change puzzled me.
Had I really transformed so drastically since meeting Osamu? It wasn’t that long ago that Shirokawa had whispered behind my back, laughing with friends at the thought of someone like me trying to fit into their world of Kether and power. The memory stung like frostbite on bare skin. But now? She wrapped herself around me as if I were something precious—an anchor in the swirling chaos of our lives.
“You sure about that?” I teased lightly, my voice playful despite the lingering bitterness beneath it. “Seems like you’re pretty attached.”
Her face turned a deeper shade of pink. “I just… I feel safe with you,” she admitted quietly, pulling back slightly to meet my gaze.
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her admission. Safe? From what? The world outside? From the expectations of others? Maybe from herself?
“You know,” I said slowly, searching for the right words, “you used to look at me like I was dirt on your shoe.”
She flinched at my honesty but didn’t deny it. Instead, her expression softened as if she remembered those moments too vividly—the way her laughter rang out with friends while I stood on the sidelines.
“People change,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Yeah,” I replied, crossing my arms and leaning against the wall. “Some more than others.”
I knew better than to pry into her feelings or delve into the past too deeply. It wasn’t fair to dig up old wounds when we had come so far together—even if it sometimes felt more like an obligation than friendship.
Shirokawa shifted nervously under my scrutiny, her petite frame shrinking slightly in that awkward way she had when faced with something uncomfortable.
But even now, standing there together in this small room filled with remnants of both our pasts and futures—her shy demeanor warmed me more than any dagger ever could.
"But don't worry i don't care if you treated me like shit 3 year ago" i sigh before getting up and going to my bed to lay
I flopped onto my bed, the springs creaking beneath me. The walls felt like they were closing in, a familiar weight pressing on my chest. I stared at the ceiling, tracing patterns in the cracks with my eyes, while Shirokawa remained perched on the edge of my bed.
“Are you really okay?” Her voice broke through the silence, soft yet laced with concern.
I turned my head slightly, catching her gaze. Those wide blue eyes had a way of pulling me in, making it hard to dodge her questions.
“I’m fine,” I said, not quite believing it myself. “Just tired.”
Her brow furrowed as she studied me. “You don’t look fine.”
“Thanks for the observation, Shirokawa,” I shot back, forcing a grin. “You should start charging for your insights.”
She frowned at that, lips pursing into a tiny pout that almost made me laugh despite the heaviness inside.
“Seriously,” she insisted, her voice barely above a whisper. “I want to help.”
Help? That word lingered between us like smoke in the air—thick and suffocating. Did she really understand what help meant? My life wasn’t exactly straightforward. I wasn’t sure if I even wanted her involved in my mess.
“Sometimes it’s better to just let things be,” I replied slowly, searching for the right tone. “You have your own life and… friends with Kether.”
“Doesn’t mean I don’t care about you.” Her eyes sparkled defiantly.
I let out a small laugh despite myself. “You know that kind of sounds like pity?”
“It’s not pity!” she shot back quickly. Her cheeks flushed again, betraying her frustration and determination all at once.
The way she clung to her convictions always amazed me—like a child clutching their favorite toy even when told it was time to grow up.
“Look,” I began, trying to keep my voice steady, “you’ve got your own stuff going on. You don’t need to take on mine too.”
Shirokawa shifted closer, tension radiating off her petite frame as she leaned forward slightly.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“I want to be there for you,” she insisted firmly, crossing her arms as if bracing against some invisible force pushing her back.
Her determination struck me harder than any blow from a magic beast ever could. A flicker of warmth ignited within me—a rare spark amid years of cold indifference from everyone else.
“And what does that look like?” I asked cautiously, curiosity bubbling beneath the surface.
She paused for a moment before responding carefully. “It means listening… being here when you need someone.”
I raised an eyebrow at that; we both knew how messy emotions could get—how tangled they could become when people tried to untie them too quickly.
“What if I’m not worth it?” My voice dropped low; an uncharacteristic vulnerability slipped through the cracks I'd carefully built around myself over time.
She blinked at me like I'd just thrown ice water in her face—her expression wavering between surprise and determination once more.
“You’re worth it,” she said firmly this time as if sealing some silent pact between us—a bond forged from shared experiences and unspoken understanding that transcended Kether or lack thereof.
I sat up slightly then stared into those expressive eyes—uncertainty mixing with something warmer as we faced each other in this dim room filled with remnants of our pasts and uncertain futures.
"If i joined division 4 like you and the others It means i know how Dangerous It Is so Just stop and go to your dorm" i close my eyes annoyed by her clinginess
"yea i know that you dumbass, i dont even know how they accepted you" Shirokawa pouted and was probably mad becuase i was mean
"Shirokawa im sorry about before but you should go to your dorm, i wanna sleep im tired" i gently putted the sheath with my dagger inside on a table near the bed
"Got it, dont worry im not mad its ok see you tomorrow" Shirokawa smiled and then got out of my dorm heading towards her dorm
The next i had assigned a task to complete with another friend of mine Minoru Araki he had short black hair and black eyes.
"Araki where do we have to go? i forgot" to be honest i didnt even look at the map i just followed Minoru.
"Near the maid cafè, it was said that there is a grade 3 magic beast so we had to go on a group of two instead of a solo mission" Minoru sighed while scratching his head and entering the maid cafè to find some information by asking the workers a maid with blue eyes and long light blue hair walked towards us she looked gorgeous "is something wrong? i saw you guys asking to the other maids about a magic beast? what are those? wasnt it just some thief?" The girl said with a worried tone but still keeping a smile on her face
"dont worry we will handle it, magic beast are those thingies that do bad things to other people" i say laughing it off, for a member of divison four a grade 3 magic beast werent a problem, the real problem would be a corrupted but i mean those are pretty rare a corrupted is a magic beast but who absorbed to much mana from dead bodies.
"got it, i heard that on nights many maids heard some sounds like people talking screams and things like that, i was scared since today i had to work for some hours more too" the girl with blue hair had a worried tone but her face expression didnt make her look worried or anything like that.
Minoru and i walked away sitting at table when at that moment we noticed that Osamu Shirokawa was sitted a table near the window and he was paying the maid to serve him. we laugh and then walk towards him and when we were behind him i hit him with a slapon his shoulder
"Hey Osamu is this the way you spend your salary?" i had a smirk on my i wanted to have some fun by getting him mad.
"Umh…Hello Shirou umh Araki you too?How funny to find eachother in such a place …ehehe… right? Osamu did an awkard laugh and turned towards us, on his shirt there was a badge saying |Number 1 daily client| me and Minoru bursted out into a laughter
"You really are a simp uh? thats crazy" i said while laughing
after we stopped laughing me and Minoru runned away after paying the maid with blue hair that helped us and Osamu followed us embarresed about what happened
"i hate you Shirou! and you to Minoru" he said while following us
we bought an hotel room for the night since the maid had said the sounds were heard only during night, we thought it would be better just to wait in the hotel near the maid cafè, so that if we heard something we could go immediately to look for the magic beast. we explained the situation to Osamu and he decided to help us look for the magic beast
"Honestily guys i dont think we will have an hard time after all its just a grade 3 but what worries me is something else… i mean they said they heard people talking and then some roars and the area were those roars and screams were heard is not opened for the public its just an alley near the maid cafè so who was talking?
"guys we need to do something now, Araki use your Kether… don't restrain yourself, its night and nothing happened, the magic beast can feel the mana in the air and with you two here the mana the amount of mana is enormous and he can surely feel it."
"what you mean Shirou even if i use my Kether what would change?" Minoru said in a confused Tone not understanding my Plan
"you have to generate as much as possible so that the magic Beast Will get to Hungry to Just resist and Attack, now Jump out of the Window and go dumbass" i Said sure of myself
Araki jumped out of the Window realisng all his mana when in that Moment someone broke the door of our hotel r
oom and jumped at Osamu, It was a Red Wolf but not a normal One It was way bigger and had alot of mana, he clearly was strong
"C'mon we gotta go to school tomorow im not in the Mood for fighting but sure i guess!" I said unsheating one of my daggers and using a copied ability to cover It with flames as i runned towards the wolf with an incredibile Speed, i cutted a Deep injuery in one of his legs
"Osamu you gotta Cook, i leave the next hit to you Bro!" I putted back in the sheat my dagger and smiled at Osamu, meanwhile the Wolf tried to hit me with his tail but Minoru quickly cutted it off
The wolf howled, a guttural sound that vibrated through my bones. I dodged its flailing tail just in time, adrenaline coursing through my veins like wildfire. The creature lunged at me, its massive jaws snapping shut where I had just stood.
“Osamu!” I shouted, barely glancing back. “Now’s your chance!”
He didn’t hesitate. I could see the gears turning in his mind as he gathered his focus. With a quick motion, he unleashed a wave of energy that crashed against the beast, momentarily stunning it.
I seized the opportunity. My heart raced as I sprinted toward the wolf’s flank, weaving through debris and discarded furniture. This was no ordinary fight; this was survival. Each movement had to count.
Minoru kept his distance but continued to unleash bursts of mana from behind me, pushing the beast further into a corner. The wolf snarled, its red eyes fixed on me with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine.
“Focus!” I shouted to Minoru while shifting my stance for a clean strike.
With a quick flick of my wrist, flames flickered around my dagger once more. The heat radiated off it, bathing the room in an eerie glow as I prepared for another assault.
“Let’s turn up the heat,” I muttered under my breath, grinning despite the situation.
I lunged again, aiming for the creature's exposed side while avoiding its snapping jaws and flailing limbs. As I closed in on my target, something primal kicked in—a rush of instinct guiding my every move.
The wolf twisted at the last second, its teeth grazing my arm and sending sparks of pain through me.
I winced but didn’t falter; instead, I twisted away and thrust my dagger forward with renewed determination.
“Come on! We can’t let it escape!” My voice rang out clear amidst the chaos.
Osamu finally joined in—his own magic flaring as he bolstered our attack with another blast of energy aimed straight at the wolf’s face. The creature staggered back, momentarily blinded and furious.
“Finish it!” Minoru yelled from behind me as he prepared for another strike of his own.
I felt fire welling up inside me—anger mixed with exhilaration—as I readied myself for one final blow to bring this beast down once and for all and well.. I did it!.
"Damn you guys didn't have to use your Kether's that's mad peak" i laughed while saying that, i found funny how they still were so stronger than me… even if i tried many years i still hadn't catch up with the others but uhhh i don't really care
Osamu and Araki lefted before me so i was kind of alone now…. in that moment i saw the girl at the maid cafè alone and in the fetal position, seeing her like this i decided to see what had happened… Did she see the fight? well that was'nt possibile after all i had checked already if there was someone
"Hey you good?" i stopped infront of her, her light blue hair falling down as her legs covered her face… she didnt respond at first, she didnt look like she had cried or anything like that but i still wanted to check on her
"Yes… i think so…." she said before getting up and putting on a fake smile, i mean it was clear it was a fake one like bro? that's clearly fake
I crouched down to her level, keeping my voice steady. “You sure you’re okay?”
She blinked at me, those bright blue eyes reflecting a mix of confusion and fear. The fake smile didn’t reach them; it only twisted her lips.
“I’m fine,” she insisted, but the tremor in her voice betrayed her.
“Right,” I replied, my tone light but probing. “That’s why you’re sitting in a corner shaking like a leaf.”
Her gaze dropped to the ground as she pulled her knees closer. “I just… I wasn’t expecting any of this.”
“None of us were,” I said softly, gesturing vaguely toward the chaos outside. “But you shouldn’t have to face it alone.”
She glanced up at me again, uncertainty clouding her expression. “What do you know about it? You looked… well, not scared.”
“Trust me,” I chuckled, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly. “I’ve had my fair share of close calls.”
“Like what?” Her curiosity peeked through the veil of anxiety.
“I’ve dealt with things that would make your hair stand on end.” I leaned in slightly, trying to draw her out of her shell without pushing too hard.
A faint blush crept onto her cheeks, and for a moment, she seemed almost human again instead of this fragile figure tucked away in fear.
“What’s your name?” I asked gently, eager to shift the focus from whatever turmoil she’d been experiencing.
“Yuki,” she murmured finally, lifting her chin slightly as if testing the waters.
“Nice to meet you, Yuki.” I offered a genuine smile and extended my hand toward hers. “I’m Shirou.”
Her fingers brushed against mine before retreating back into her lap. “It’s nice to meet you too.”
“Why were you hiding back there?” I pressed on gently, keeping my tone light.
“It was just… loud,” she admitted quietly. “I thought it might be safer here.”
Safer? That hit hard. People always thought hiding would keep them away from danger, but that wasn’t how it worked in our world.
“I get that,” I replied softly. “But sometimes hiding can make things worse.”
Yuki nodded slowly, looking thoughtful for a moment before dropping her gaze again.
“What about you?” she asked suddenly. “You didn’t seem afraid.”
A flicker of surprise crossed my mind; she was perceptive despite everything else clouding her thoughts.
"….I passed worse things" i said with an apathic tone, i looked like It was something i didn't want to talk about
I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling the weight of her gaze. “Trust me, I’ve seen things that could chill your bones.”
“Like what?” she pressed, her curiosity breaking through the fear.
I chuckled lightly, a bit surprised by her tenacity. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. Just know, it wasn’t easy.”
Her eyes sparkled with intrigue despite the tremor still lingering in her voice. “Try me.”
I leaned back against the wall, feigning nonchalance. “Once, I had to fend off a horde of enchanted crows—demonic little things with razor-sharp beaks and no sense of personal space.”
She blinked, processing the absurdity. “Crows? Seriously?”
“Yeah,” I smirked, enjoying this banter more than I should have. “They were hungry and didn’t care who got in their way.”
A hesitant smile crept onto her lips. “Sounds like a nightmare.”
“More like a Tuesday,” I replied with a wink.
Yuki laughed softly, the sound lightening the heavy atmosphere around us. The tension seemed to ease just a bit, and for a moment, she looked more like herself—someone unguarded and free.
“What about you? You’ve been here working long hours. What do you usually do to unwind?”
She glanced away, an uneasy shadow crossing her face. “Not much. Just work and… try to forget sometimes.”
“Forget what?” My interest piqued as I leaned closer.
She hesitated again but then met my gaze head-on, her blue eyes shimmering under the dim light. “Just… stuff.”
I could sense she wanted to confide in me but held back—fear cloaked her words like a heavy fog.
“You know,” I said gently, nudging her shoulder playfully, “hiding isn’t going to make it better.”
Her expression softened as she absorbed my words.
“You’re right.” She bit her lip for a moment before adding quietly, “It’s just easier sometimes.”
“But not better.” My voice dropped an octave; I wanted her to feel that sincerity.
“I guess,” she replied slowly.
For a moment we shared silence—an understanding blooming between us amid all this chaos surrounding our lives. Then something flickered in Yuki’s gaze—a fierce glint that almost caught me off guard.
“Shirou,” she said suddenly, drawing closer. The distance between us shrank until it felt charged with electricity.
“What?” I asked, half teasing yet wholly curious about where this was headed.
“I don’t want anything bad happening to you,” she admitted softly, vulnerability bleeding into those words.
I met her intensity head-on; something warm blossomed in my chest at her concern—her possessiveness lingering just beneath the surface.
“Don’t worry about me,” I reassured with a slight grin. "I'm tougher than I look."
Her gaze flickered down briefly before rising again—determination replacing hesitation as she whispered fiercely: “But if anything happens… I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
"Emhhh Thanks i suppose?" I said confused by the situation, i didn't know what She meant but if saying that made her feel better then im happy.
After that i checked my phone and found out It was 2 A.M…"Well, Guess im cooked.." i said sighing and putting back the phone in my pocket
"What happened? I Hope Nothing bad…" Yuki looked at me pretty worried by what i said, She looked cute with that worried look "C'mon don't make me worry"
"I gotta go to school but it's already 2 A.M, im probably gonna be late so… see you!" I waved goodbye at her as i said that, then i got up and started to walk away
