A comprehensive psychological report on Visette Thales, as requested by Commander Wakefield.
Initial Observation:
At first glance, Visette Thales appears to be a soft-spoken, fragile, girl with no clear indication of violent tendencies. It is advised to do away with all preconceived notions when dealing with her. Visette is highly intelligent and pragmatic. She appears to have some unknown goal in mind and if an obstacle gets in her way she will not hesitate to use violence by her own admission. I inquired about Visette’s goal but she remains tight-lipped about it. I do not recommend using forceful methods to obtain information from Visette as she’ll most likely respond with intent to kill anyone she deems hostile.
Personality:
Visette is relatively simple. For her level of intelligence, she shows an unexpected ignorance when it comes to understanding certain things. For example, using certain figures of speech will cause her to take things literally. When dealing with her, I advise being clear and concise as possible to avoid misunderstandings.
As mentioned previously, Visette is a girl of very little words. It’s rare for her to ask a question if someone doesn’t initiate a conversation with her first. Even then, all of her questions center around furthering her understanding of a particular subject and consist of little more than one or two inquiries.
Another thing to note, Visette has an incredibly high level of patience. Even with her current cell arrangements, she hasn’t complained. It’s reported that she spends most of her time in meditation, but the reason for it remains unknown.
Potential Dangers:
Visette has remained silent about her past and it is unknown if she has some outstanding trauma remaining. In that regard, certain provocations may very well trigger violent reactions. Her mental tolerance seems to be incredibly high but testing the limit of that tolerance isn’t advised.
Visette has an objective that she is unwilling to share and interfering with it will draw her hostility. Since she isn’t willing to talk about it, avoiding conflicts of interest might be difficult. Though she will most likely give some hint or warning if that objective is put at risk by an individual. If she is insistent on doing something that is difficult to allow I would recommend drawing a compromise that is satisfactory for both parties.
Visette shows no signs of guilt or remorse in taking lives but also no enjoyment. To her, murder is a necessary and effective tool if it removes an obstacle in the way of her advancement. The only benefit to her mindset is that, she’ll just as easily avoid murder if given a better, more effective, alternative.
Visette’s current arrangements may worsen her mental state causing her to become even more cold and detached than she already is. I highly recommend that she is put into a social environment under the condition that she is closely monitored. Allowing Rachel or Charlie Wakefield to visit her seems to be the best option at the moment.
Conclusion:
Disregarding my personal feelings on the matter, Visette would make an excellent soldier. However, while she is an overall logical individual, there are unpredictable factors surrounding Visette that must be taken into account. As far as I can tell, a good way to ensure her cooperation is to offer an incentive that she deems valuable. From what I learned, informative or educational reading material seems to be what she currently desires the most.
The chances of Visette having a sudden, unwarranted, violent outburst is low, and I would say that allowing Visette certain freedoms wouldn’t be too dangerous.
Notes: Further evaluation is needed to determine how Visette would fit in with civilian life.
…
“Signed, Dr. Eliza Brendan.” Commander Wakefield muttered aloud while reading the report.
Although Dr. Eliza was somewhat forced to speed up her examination of Visette, she delivered what he asked for. Truthfully, Commander Wakefield wasn’t interested in half of the report said. The thing he was most interested in was gaining her cooperation and giving her a few textbooks would be a worthwhile trade. As for sending Rachel and Charlie to visit? He didn’t give it a single thought. One of the few things he cared for was his family and he deemed Visette too much of an unknown variable at this time. The psych report wasn’t convincing enough for him to leverage the safety of his wife and child.
Commander Wakefield pressed the intercom and spoke. “Tell O’Hara to begin training Visette Thales as soon as the facility is complete.”
[Yes, Sir.] The voice on the intercom responded.
…
In only took a month to build the field training camp for Visette. Since everything was scaled down to accommodate a single person and there was plenty of spare equipment from other facilities to use, it didn’t take very long. A majority of the time it took to finish was spent procuring an empty warehouse located in a quiet corner of the military section of the city to use as the site. It ensured an adequate level of privacy and Commander Wakefield’s political enemies didn’t blink twice after looking into it. It wasn’t suspicious for a Commander to make use of one of the warehouses he had control over.
Lyn brought Visette to the facility after a short drive and began to explain to her the purpose of it.
“From now on, you’ll start real training. At least, according to what this booklet says.” Lyn tapped the thick training manual. “First, open that crate and put on what’s inside.”
Visette did as instructed and the first thing she saw was a black vest with metal segments attached.
“It’s your defensive gear. The Corrupted can easily tear people apart, so an armored vest is the best form of protection available. It’ll stop them from clawing through you but they still hit pretty damn hard. It’s also effective at stopping bullets.”
Visette lifted it up and felt the immense weight in her hands. To defend against the claws of Corrupted as well as bullets it needed to be dense. The current piece Visette held seem to weigh at least, fifty to sixty pounds.
“Yeah, it’s pretty heavy too, isn’t it?”
Visette nodded in agreement.
“Well, you’ll be wearing it a lot so get used to it. It’s also insulated with a foam layer to lessen impact but a downside is that it gets pretty hot.”
Visette put on the chest piece and it became apparent that it was too big for her. She stared at Lyn with a blank face waiting for the next instruction.
“...You’ll grow into it,” Lyn muttered.
“Next you’ll put on one of these weight packs.” Lyn pointed to a backpack with the number 30 stuck on the back, indicating the precise weight of it.
“And finally, you’ll carry this rifle.” Lyn handed over an unloaded Anti-Corrupted Auto Rifle.
“From now on, you’ll be doing laps around this warehouse to get accustomed to the weight.”
“I understand.” Visette could see the benefit in building up physical endurance. It would even help her psionic power grow as channeling it through her body increased her strength.

She began a light jog around the warehouse while glancing at the equipment placed about. After thirty minutes passed, Vis began sweating and as a result, Lyn made sure she had an adequate amount of water. After an hour had went by, Visette’s breathing was heavy. She tried to conserve as much energy as possible so she used her psionic power in short bursts. So every few minutes, she would carry the weight without assistance.
Lyn was obviously unaware of Visette’s psionic abilities, so it just looked like Visette would suddenly slow down before speeding up again.
“Alright, that’s enough for now.” Lyn waved her over.
“You’ll have more than enough time to get used to it so start loading your rifle and follow me.” Lyn pointed to an ammo cartridge before guiding Visette to a distant corner of the warehouse.
A wooden maze was constructed and took up the entire corner of the spacious warehouse. Vis tried to understand its purpose but quickly realized she was unable to. A short psionic pulse showed that there were stationary objects inside but she wasn’t at a level where she could properly distinguish them.
“This is what they call, a live simulation.” Lyn climbed up a catwalk that overlooked the course and approached a control panel.
She gave a cursory glance to the buttons and then started reading from the booklet. “Inside are targets placed on a motorized track to simulate real movement. There are also non-hostile targets placed inside that you need to avoid. You have two minutes to complete the course as fast as possible. You got all of that?”
“Yes,” Visette replied while approaching the entrance.
“Alright, you can start...now.” Lyn pressed a button and the buzz of machinery filled the air.
Visette turned off the safety of the auto rifle and rushed in. Her first target was a human-shaped mannequin with a fake gun in its hand. She fired a single shot, hitting it in the head and stopping it completely.
After turning a corner, two targets appeared, one peeking from cover and the other standing in the open. She responded instantaneously and squeezed the trigger twice before moving on. No matter how the target moved, Visette was ready. There were targets that held hostages but it didn’t affect her lethal accuracy.
About halfway through, Corrupted versions of the mannequins appeared. They suddenly broke through doors or appeared from windows. Something that often happened in real situations and proved fatal to countless soldiers who were unprepared. Visette didn’t flinch and fired three shots into each Corrupted target. Everything was going well until she arrived at the end where a Corrupted target was holding a human target up by the neck.
Visette aimed her rifle and emptied the remainder of her clip into both of the targets. Blasting a hole in the human mannequin and hitting the Corrupted behind it.
Lyn jumped in surprise but she collected herself and manipulated the controls, stopping the simulation. The targets were powered down so she descended from the catwalk and walked toward Visette.
“It was almost a perfect score...” She looked at the human target that Visette paid no mind to. “Why did you shoot a friendly target? And don’t try to tell me that it was an accident.”
“Attempting to save a target with a low chance of survival was not a logical decision. In a real life situation, it would be better to eliminate both targets to avoid receiving potential injuries.”
“You don’t know that for sure. Don’t just assume someone is going to die just because the situation looks bad.”
“Your assertion is incorrect. The average strength of a Corrupted is beyond what a human can withstand. If the situation was real, the friendly target would have died from asphyxiation or a fracture to the spinal vertebrae. That is under the basis that a Corrupted would actually undertake a strange action as the one demonstrated.”
“...Say whatever you want, I’m still subtracting points.” Lyn murmured stubbornly.
She knew what Visette was saying was true but the purpose of the targets wasn’t to decide if they were past the point of saving but to ingrain the practice of protecting friendly targets. Visette’s willingness to shoot a friendly target in that situation wouldn't bode well if she was placed on a team. After all, who would place their trust in someone who would eagerly shoot you if they thought you couldn’t be saved?
Visette’s next training exercises consisted of maneuverability. While carrying her heavy equipment, she had to scale a wooden tower, fire at moving targets, before climbing down and switching to another tower.
After demonstrating an unreal level of accuracy, Lyn skipped a few of the more firearms based drills and moved to the close combat parts.
“Here,” Lyn tossed a practice sword to Visette before grabbing one for herself.
“There swords for use against Corrupted and swords for use against people. For Corrupted, a weapon that can pierce or cleave through them is useful since they have thick muscle tissue. For humans, just about anything with a sharp point and an even sharper edge will do. We’ll be using the latter first.”
Visette adjusted the protective vest as it began to dig into her shoulders. She observed Lyn’s stance when holding the sword and mirrored it.
“Ready?” Lyn asked.
Visette used her free hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead before nodding.
After receiving confirmation from Visette, Lyn made use of her abnormal traits and rushed forward and easily knocked Vis’ sword away.
“Dead. Reset and try again.” Lyn spoke briefly before stepping back.
Visette gripped the sword tighter and nodded before Lyn came charging again.
Visette managed to deflect the first blow but the result ended the same after the second.
“Dead. Reset and try again.”
The process was repeated again for the next few hours until Visette could last more than twenty attacks.
“You made some good progress,” Lyn spoke with clear admiration. Since her grandfather was an instructor she couldn’t help but appreciate someone with talent.
Visette accepted the compliment with a face showing signs of exhaustion.
“Next, we move onto practicing your strikes.” Although Lyn felt bad putting Visette through the rigorous training, her enthusiasm for all things related to the sword numbed her empathy.
…
A few hours later, Lyn was shouting a bunch of commands while taking note of Visette’s form.
“Downward strike, diagonal, right side.”
Visette raised the sword and struck toward the collarbone on the right side of a practice dummy.
“Inverted.”
Visette changed her posture and struck toward the left side.
“Horizontal strike, left side, abdomen.”
Visette gripped the sword with two hands and swung as if she wanted to separate the training dummy at the waist.
“Inverted.”
She switched her stance and performed the same attack on the opposite side.
“Upward thrust, throat.”
Visette thrust the sword under the chin of the practice dummy.
“Downward thrust, left leg.”
Again, Visette moved the sword.
“Inverted.”
As the instructions flowed from her mouth, every so often, Lyn would adjust Visette’s footing or grip before they continued.
The only thing that changed was the fact that a pair of metal wrist guards were added which put extra weight on Visette’s body.
“Do you remember the order of the strikes?” Lyn asked as she stepped away and took a seat.
“Yes.”
“Then you can perform all of them for me with no issue.” She gestured with her hand.
Visette reset her posture before going through the strikes just as Lyn taught them. She was a quiet as possible and kept a steady breathing pattern that grew more haggard as time went by.
Lyn mindlessly watched Visette with a small grin before she ended up falling asleep without realizing. It was only after a few hours went by did she jolt awake and notice that it was late in the evening.
“Hey-” She turned her attention to Visette and was speechless.
Even though they should’ve moved on some time ago, Visette was still swinging the sword. Blood ran from her nose, her swings lost all sense of vigor, her breathing was nothing more than an unsteady and low pant, but she continued without stopping. The only thing that remained was Visette’s accuracy as she never deviated from where she was supposed to hit.
“Hey! What are you doing?!” Lyn shouted at her.
Visette stopped abruptly and looked at Lyn with a confused expression. “Did I not perform the moves correctly?” She asked softly.
“No, you- You did, but that’s not-” Lyn shook her head in frustration. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“You didn’t instruct me to,” Visette replied. Her simple responses only made her seem more innocent in the matter.
Lyn groaned loudly as she couldn’t blame Visette for her own actions and feelings of guilt began to surge up.
“That’s enough for today. Take off that vest and get ready to leave.” Lyn sighed as she looked at the pitiful sight of Visette.
After putting the equipment up, Lyn took Visette back to the detention facility where she was able to wash away the sweat and blood before resting. Although there was intense mental strain due to overuse of her psionics, Visette was satisfied. Using her psionics to enhance her physical ability had the lowest energy cost. It also held a great advantage in increasing her mental endurance and a small nosebleed was nothing if it helped her to maintain consciousness.
Visette climbed onto the cot and closed her eyes. Her entire body felt drained so sleep came easy, but something strange happened after she drifted off. Instead of entering a fully cognitive state, as usual, Visette began to dream for the first time in her life.
