Chapter 2

Wondering who could be at the door at such a time, Leo walked down the hallway and opened the door to see his neighbour Greg. Greg was an Axian-Amiroccan who had moved to Britannia after the end of the third great mage war in 1884 with his family. As such, he was a third elf and two-thirds dwarf. This combination of genetics just so happened to bring Greg to be near-identical to a human, which Greg was both happy and sad about due to being able to avoid the racism against his ancestry after GMW III and being less accepted by his kinship.

"Greg? Please, come inside. You must be drenched." Leo said, stepping to the side to allow Greg past.

"Ah, thank you, lad. I came over to ask you if you err... if anything strange had happened to your status?" He asked, clearly shaken. As he removed his coat, Leo saw that the 138-year-old man was a lot paler than his normal complexion.

"As a matter of fact, I have. Come, let's sit down and discuss this. I'll make some tea." Leo suggested as he ushered the older man into the main room. "How do you like yours? milk? Sugar?"

"Ah, a splash of milk and three sugars if you would, lad. Thank you." Greg groaned as he lowered himself onto one of the chairs in the room.

After putting together their teas, Leolin walked back into the main room, where Greg was sat, eyes glazed over, as is characteristic of someone perusing the system.

"So, the whole SUPER system is real then, is it?" Leo asked as he handed Greg his tea and sat down

"It seems so, lad. This marks strange and chaotic times ahead. As far as I know, the last time this happened was over 2000 years ago. Many generations, even for the dwarves."

"Mmm... Have you gotten heads or tails of this new system yet? I've managed to open my status and I know what the basic stats mean, but I've no clue what that acronym is even supposed to mean. 'Strong Unification of Powers and Energies for Reconstitution'... still gibberish to me"

"I'm about the same here. Got a grasp of the stats, no clue as to what the whole archetype thing means, or even how to access my mana now." Greg grumbled, before taking a small sip of his tea.

"You too? Right, I'm gonna look through the system, see if I can pull anything up." Leo said, getting a bit more comfortable in his chair.

"Right with you, Lad" Greg replied, doing the same.

As his eyes glazed over, Leo noticed another faint blue pulsing out of the corner of his eye. Not turning toward it as he did the first time, he focused on the glow until it overtook his entire vision before resolving into a blue rectangular window.

Congratulations! For being part of the Sentient Population that went through the System Upheaval, you have been awarded a Power of random strength and rarity, along with one level!

A Power? What the hell does that even mean? At least I won't be level 0 anymore.

Powers

You have been awarded a Unique Power!

Wound Transferrence LVL 1

For an amount of mana proportional to the size and lethality of the wound, you can remove and "store" the wound.

You can then give another entity a wound from your "store" for an amount of mana proportional to the size and lethality of the wound.

As the Power levels up, your "store" capacity will increase, and the mana cost scaling will reduce.

Huh? A Unique Power?! What makes me so special? The power's a strange one, too. doesn't give me any numerical mana costs either. Whatever...

Closing out of the Powers window, a new window popped up.

Level Up!

You have reached Level 1!

As a Civilian, you receive:

[3] Statistic Points!

[2] Randomly Assigned Points!

[1] Skill Point!

Good Luck,

Civilian!

Stat points and Skill points? Not too different from the old system then. Let's check my Status.

Now, where to put my stat points... I got one random point in Agility, and the other in Wisdom. Hmmm... If I'm to use my Power, I'll need all the Mana I can get. Let's boost Wisdom by two and Intelligence by one.

After applying the changes, Leo's Stat Sheet looked thusly:

Let's have a look at skills then, shall we?

Skills

[Common Language] [Level 7] - Reading [Level 9] - Writing [Level 7] [Running] [Level 4] [Swimming] [Level 6] [Hand to Hand Combat] [Level 5] ... ...

The list went on, and on, naming many skills Leo didn't warrant their own skill. Such as smiling, yodelling, algebra and screaming. Nevertheless, Leo attempted to place his skill point into one of the hundreds of skills when he received a notice.

Error

All Sub-Skills levels must be at least equal to the Skills level to Improve the main level.

Place Skill point into the lowest level Sub-skill?

Yes/No

Selecting no, Leo decided it would be best to hold off on using his skill point before knowing more about where best to put it.

By searching around the menu some more, Leo found he could buy skills that he did not have. Looking at the list of available skills, he became overwhelmed by the number and variety of skills he could choose from. He could also see a rarity assigned to each of them, which was lacking in the skills he had. He then noted a clear correlation between the rarity of a skill and its skill point cost. Ranging from a [Common] Skill costing just one skill point to a [Unique] Skill costing fifty. Not seeing any skills that he needed at that very moment, Leo pulled out of the Skills menu and looked back over his status. Still confused by the term 'Archetype', he tried to ask the system its meaning. Surprising Leo, the system responded.

A User's Archetype is a basic overview of a User's role in society at that time.

For example, an average citizen is considered a Civilian, a thief is considered a Criminal, and someone who enforces the law and protects Civilians is considered a Hero.

Finally having that confusion cleared up, Leo closed out of the system and turned to converse with Greg.
