Two minor fights later, without any serious effort, the warrior bots had caught back up with the wagon. Lucas, Ralph, and Brandy promptly loaded the Mining bots into the carts and tried to take off.

The cart failed to go any faster than when the miners themselves had been pulling it.

“Domain dang it!” shouted Ralph. “This should have worked.”

If I may interject, I was afraid of this, the max speed of the Mining bots is system enforced and thus transitive. If you load them onto anything, their speed transfers to the object carrying them.

The remainder of the day followed mostly followed the same formula. The three warrior bots would be at the front and would catch any ambushes, letting a few out at a time, Ralph would tank whatever got past, Lucas would quickly eliminate them, and Brandy would keep them from getting too injured.

Stopping on the shores of a lake, Lucas decided it was time to make camp for the night. “Well, we made it most of the way to the mountain today. I think we can make it the rest of the way tomorrow. Rose, please keep an ear out regarding your bots. Yell in our ears if we need to wake up.”

Grabbing some blankets from out of the wagon, which was now covered in wolf fur, Lucas, Brandy, and Ralph settled down for the night.

The night passed surprisingly uneventfully for Lucas. Considering their proximity to U.S. 31 which had been described as an extremely dangerous place and the wandering monsters that they had cleared out before camping, Lucas had expected to be woken at least once or twice to fight.

As he got up and looked around, Lucas realized that it hadn’t quite been as uneventful as he thought.

“Rose, why is there a pile of bodies nearby that wasn’t there when I went to sleep? And why does it appear that one of your Robots has been beaten to kingdom come?”

Ummm… Can we just say I was practicing?

“No,” said Lucas firmly.

Can we say that I wanted to let you have your sleep?

“No.”

Can we say I was bored and wanted to play with my toys? I would have woken you up had it gotten really bad.

“Yes, we can say that. But in the meantime you have a broken warrior bot,” replied Lucas

It gives us a perfect opportunity to do a test. Just humor me in this, but cast cleanse on a working warrior bot and then cleanse on the one that’s been beaten up.

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

“Cleanse!” was heard and then a moment later, “Cleanse!” was heard again as Lucas complied with Rose’s request.

It seems the system does not allow cleanse to repair my robots. They must not be covered under cleanse for some reason. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Brandy, be a dear and cast Minor Flesh Wound on the bot a couple times, please.

As Brandy cast the spells, the robot’s parts came together. After a few moments, it was a fully operational Robot.

Great! Now we know how to heal my robots. I’m going to count this as a win.

“I’m going to count this as you going off-script Rose. Seriously, if you had been overwhelmed, we would have been in trouble,” lectured Lucas.

They started out one by one. And I was getting a trickle of EXP. I’ve now got enough to unlock both the Dungeon Shield and Dungeon Teleporting with some leftover. Not a lot mind you. I’m planning on picking up either Solid Projections or a loot level as soon as I can.

“I’ve only got one more question then. You acted rashly, but you did need to learn what your robots could do. What are we going to do with the bodies? Brandy, Ralph and I did not participate in the kills. We can’t loot them.”

I do need raw material for my cats… Let me try something.

As the team watched, one of the warrior bots walked over to the pile of dead… things. Through all of the Comlinks, the team heard Rose say, Loot. Followed swiftly by a Woo-hoo it worked!

“Let me guess, you were able to loot the monsters all the way from your dungeon?” questioned Lucas.

Yup! I can loot from here… My minions will have to come back before I can access the loot, but… they are now carrying it… somewhere. No idea where. It shows up in my inventory, but I can’t access it.

Packing up the bedding, grabbing a ration, the team moved out. Another few hours later, with a few more skirmishes, and they had arrived at the bottom of the mountain. It was even more evident as they approached that it was an artificial mountain. There were no hills around it. It sprung up at the side of the lake in the middle of a broad flat area.

The team was quiet as they climbed the path the villagers had carved up the side of the mountain to the entrance. As evening rolled around the team crossed the entrance to the mine. Once they did, everyone, including Rose received one notification. The team that was physically present received a second notification.

Brandy quickly had a question. “Rose, honey, what can I use DKP for?”
