Side Story: Inquisitor Brevis Zakarious

'Inquisitor?'

Brevis Zakarious blinked, he had to steady himself after being addressed by that title. The newly promoted inquisitor felt his lips tremble slightly as he savoured that precious moment, oh it had been far too long.

Finally, after all these decades, all these missions, all the campaigns, all the bloodbath, all the purging, the trials and tribulations… he made it, and he will make damn sure everyone knows about it.

'My Lord? Is everything alright?'

'Say it again.'

'Lord? I beg your pardon?'

'No, way before that.'

'Inquisitor?'

'Yes… everything is fine. In fact, today is a glorious day. How about we start the process, magos?'

The tech-priest nodded.

'The Adeptus Mechanicus is honoured to be the creator of your personalised war gear. Everything will be made in accordance to your specification, my lord. There are only the final adjustments pending for your approval.'

'Show me.'

The tech-priest summoned a holographic projection of a splendid looking set of customised power armour, Brevis could not help himself but grin at the sight of it.

This would be his war attire for the next couple of decades, he would don this fine piece of work while doing the Emperor's holy judgement. All shall bow to his… wait, why is this important detail so small?

Brevis raised an eyebrow and asked, 'Magos, could I perhaps request modifications?'

'Within reasonable perimeters, of course.'

'Please enlarge the symbol of the Holy Inquisition on the back pack.' The tech-priest complied and worked on his adjustment, scaling up the stylised 'I' as requested.

'Yes, much... bigger.' Brevis was getting excited.

'More?'

'More!'

'More?'

The tech-priest continued to increase the size of the decoration until the stylised 'I' became comically ginormous.

'Yes..... that is about right.'

'My lord, are you sure? You might have ... difficulties in more confined places like the air duct.'

'Let me worry about the tactical implication myself, all must see that I do HIS holy work.'

'Very well.'

'Next up, my sword.'

The tech-priest nodded and summoned another hologram, this time a gigantic power sword floated into view.

'Again, the sword is at the maximum recommended size for human usage, everything will be done to your specification, inquisitor. What's left for you to decide is the text engraving on the blade.'

'Excellent. Give me a minute, I must think of a powerful phrase …' Brevis dug into memories and a powerful moment in his career jumped at him.

Brevis was but an acolyte then, he had witnessed his then master in a heated negotiation with a certain shady planetary governor. The talk was about to break down when his master threatened he would drop the "Exterminatus, mofo", that got the point across and sealed the deal.

Brevis Zakarious himself had yet to ever enact that order himself, he just made the rank, after all. But it would be prudent for Inquisitor Brevis to remind the others of his capability to drop the order as he saw fit, and thus he decided on his choice of text.

'Just put "Exterminatus. Mofo" on it.'

'As you wish.'

The tech-priest completed his virtual mock up and showed it to the newly promoted inquisitor. Now that he had a proper look at the whole package, Brevis stared long and hard at the hologram, was he looking like overcompensating for something?

A small part of him wondered for a moment if his new look was a tad bit too unsubtle about his office, but in the end, Brevis decided it was fine. Who cares when you can sign off the death warrant of an entire world?

'Proceed, magos, proceed.'
