The creature dragged its fleshy body through the torn and ragged ground, steam emanating from the few strands of meat that was still attached to its once called bottom. It crawled and pulled and wobbled. A movement that no one understood but itself, for it was dancing a happy dance, it was happy finally being free.
It had waited years for its turn. Fighting the other creatures for its place in the line, using the few muscles that still allowed movement. The creature was lucky, for it had been one of the stronger ones on this planet. It had found a perfect host and plenty of sustenance that provided it with enough materials to grow big and strong. Even after its body had turned to a big lump of meat and the pains of decay and rot having settled in for far too long. It had still pulled its body to the frontline awaiting its turn.
A thought entered the creature's mind, a thought pressing its way through pain, misery and suffering. A thought that it would finally, finally be one again. That it would no longer hunger; it would no longer be in pain; it would no longer be, meat.

The creature sensed the portal opening. It wanted to cry, that is, if it still had eyes to speak off. But it didn’t dwindle for long, for if it did, its prize would be snatched from underneath it. The creature hurried, using its big mass to move forward, each step sizzling and oozing. But it moved, and it moved faster than all the other creatures around it. It knew that it had gotten lucky getting this far up in line. If it had waited just an hour more, it would probably have taken him thousands of years to get here.
The portal neared, the creature felt warm, heavenly even. It’s thoughts going to a happier place, something other than pain and hunger.
And then it slowly entered the portal. It’s body going light as a feather, smaller than an atom, bigger than the universe. It was everything, everywhere and anything at the same time. A feeling it had missed.
Then the feeling stopped, and it knew it had arrived. It felt such joy, such overwhelming joy, it could barely contain itself. It took a deep breath through its long rotted lungs, feeling the pain of actual air seeping in.
Then it felt it, the sensation of others, things made of meat and bones. Things it could eat.
Then it saw it, and it became confused, for it hadn’t eaten yet, how could it see?
And then it saw a bright light, enveloping a polished silver sword.
Then it thought, for its final time.
How beautiful
