A young boy who looked to be around 14 years old could be seen working the fields in the outskirts of a small village, surrounded by tall mountains and a large forest, the village was the only evidence of an intelligent civilization for thousands of kilometers.
Waring a tattered shirt, brown pants and a straw hat, Alex was dressed like a farmer through and through, if it weren’t for his abnormal pale skin considering how he spends most of his time tending the fields under the blazing sun.
“Hey Alex” shouted a young girl wearing a pink dress and 2 piggay tails.
Alex who was using a rake to loosen the soil, turned around to look at the little girls who was hopping towards him, her name was lily, she was 8 years old this year, she was the daughter of Aunt Maggie, he called her aunt but they weren’t really related, she was just the person who was responsible for him, a foster parent if you were really into labels. Alex never knew who his parents were, all he knows is that one day his Aunt Maggie had gone out of the village to pick up fruits and when she was coming back she found a baby right outside the village’s entrance, that baby was Alex and after waiting for a few day with no one coming to claim the baby, she decided to take care of him.
Despite them not being blood related Alex has always treated Aunt Maggie and Lily like real family.
Alex smiled when he saw Lilly
“What it is Lilly” he asked curious why the little girl seemed so happy.
”Mom told me to tell you that she got the manual that you’ve been asking for months” lily said looking at him with her big green eyes.”
as soon as Alex heard that, he dropped the rake in is hands and without saying another word to Lily he started sprinting to his house where he lived with aunt Maggie and Lily.

”hmph, stupid Alex didn’t even say thank you” Lily pouted.,
As Alex was running through the village, in his mind he could only think of the moment when he was told he didn’t have any affinity for magic, he was beyond disappointed, every kid in the village dreamed with becoming a mage and cast impressive spells, Alex was no the exception, he too dreamed of becoming a mage so that he could pay back his aunt for taking care of him all this time.
In the village when a child turned six, they were taken to the temple, which was the tallest and most lavish building in the entire village, there the children were checked for affinity and soul level.
The reason why affinity was so important for a mage is because a mage has to absorb the elements in the environment and store them in their bodies so they later use them to activate spells, and to store an element in your body you needed to have an affinity for that element. Becoming a mage however, wasn’t as simple as having an affinity for an element, you needed a high level of comprehension to understand a spell and construct it in your awareness which was also taxing on your soul, thus you needed a high soul level because the higher the soul level the higher your comprehension is and your soul was also stronger which made it less taxing to construct spells in your awareness. Which is why both affinity and high soul level were needed it in order to become a mage.
Although Alex didn’t have an affinity his soul level was extremely high, the average soul level for someone between the ages of 10-18 was 7, Alex’s soul level however was 25 he didn’t know this however since the device used to measure it only went up to 20 because no expected a child to have a soul level over 20
But none of this matter to Alex right now the only thing he could think of was the warrior’s manual that his aunt has gotten for him, with it he’ll be able to become stronger. He heard from the guards if you train the manual to perfection you could rival a mage granted it’d be the weakest mage but hey a mage was still a mage.
Alex stopped in front a 2 story house, excitement could be seen in his face, My destiny will finally change said Alex to himself, even if can only fight the weakest of mages at first, I’m sure I'll be able to figure something out
