Triad sits alone in my room as he had every night for as long as he could remember. His feet flicking with child like excitement as he waits for his mother to enter the room. This was Triad’s favorite part of the day, the time his mother or father would come and tell him stories of their lives before he was born. The two of them took turns with each of them taking a different night to tell him stories. Triad loved his fathers stories of course, but as a mage of the god of creation his stories could be a bit boring at times. His mother however was in the service of the god of destruction and her stories were far more exciting. Triad had worked out at a young age that his father would get sad if he mentioned that though, and kept that to himself these days.
The door to his room creaked open as Triads father pushed the door open, his father giving triad a smile as the two’s eyes meet. “Hey there big guy, you ready for story time!” his father says it tired excitement, the wrinkles on his face making the smile seem much larger than it was.
“Yup, I tucked in and ready to go! Do you think mum will finally tell me about her sword tonight!” Triad asked, bouncing up and down on his bed, the sound of the springs groaning under the boys excitement.
“I told you two nights ago, you’re still a bit too young for that one.” Triad’s mother says as she walks into the room, running a finger along the bottom of her husbands chin as she passes. Triad’s Dad smile and shakes his head as he grabs his wife from behind and plants a fluffy of kisses on her. Triad recoils at the display, sticking his tongue and making gagging sounds in response to their display. “Gross! Kisses are for girls Dad!” Triad yells, his head turned away from the horror that is his parents happy marriage.
“Are they now and what sage of wisdom told you that?” Triads father asked, a soft white light now coming from the pendant on his chest. With a flick of his wrist two mugs of milk appear on Triad’s night stand with a flash of white light. “It was Micheal from town, he said men should only shake hands and kisses are for girls.” Triad says, grabbing one of the mugs of milk and taking a large gulp from it. Triads mother breaks free from her husband, turns and gives him a peck on the lips. The display causing triad to blow bubbles in his milk in protest.

“You’re father can tell you how wrong that is another time.” Triads mother says as she leaves the embrace of her husband and takes a seat next to triad’s bed. “Tonight, I have a way better story to tell you. It’s about…” Both of Triads parents heads snap towards the small window in triads room.
“Did you just…” said Triads mother
“Yeah.” Triads father answers
“Is it..” Triads mother asks
“Don’t know, but we should check.” Triads father answers again with a nod.
Triads father walks over to Triad, removes his pendant and drapes it around the boys neck. “We just need to have a look outside quickly, ok? Be a good boy and stay inside for us.” Triad answers his Father with a nod and clasps his hands over his mouth to show that he understands. “Good boy.” Triads father says forcing a smile before leaving the room with his wife in toe. Triad leans over and puts a cup over the ball of light his father had created to keep the room lit. This kind of thing happened sometimes, a wild animal or an undead would come out of the woods and try to get into the house. Triad had been grounded more than once for trying to sneak a peek at what was happening outside and had no intention of getting grounded again this close to the spring harvest celebration.
Triad closed his eye and listened to the sounds of the world around him, letting out a sigh of relief when he heard the sound of a conversation going on outside. “Oh, good its someone here who needs one of Dad’s potions. If they’re here this late someone must be really sick though.” Triad says to himself, grabbing his mug of milk and taking another gulp.
The sound of his father crying out in pain and his mother screaming “NO!” fills his room a moment later. “Bandits!” Triad yells, the mug of milk falling on to his bed as he scrabbles towards his parents room. “The sword, I have to get mum’s sword to her.” Triad says under his breath as he slams into the door to their room and grabs the sword by the hilt… And then everything went black.
“Where am I” Triad ask the black void that now surrounds him, his words echoing back to him over and over again.
“You betrayed us child of man, and now you’ll pay the price. The God of change will twist your flesh, a curse inflicted thrice. With each new day your hunger grows, and with it will come pain. Until you die, return our gifts and then suffer again. This is no place in all the realms for your now tainted soul. Be gone beast for when you die, you’ll burn as If you’re coal.”
