Of course they get the obligatory talking to by Fury, wondering what in their right mind they are doing taking in kids, saying: “Shield will not install a daycare for your convenience! Do you have any idea, to what kind of diplomatic consequences this might lead?” Bucks is already getting riled up, but it's Steve who answers the Shield leader in a firm voice: “It's going to lead to two of the best behaved, provided, educated, and accomplished Afghan-American citizens you'll ever meet, and if anything, they will only add to the cultural diversity of this great nation, and perhaps help it form a closer and more peaceful bond to the country of their birth!”
After that, they are left to go to Shield's medical unit, where the health officer takes care of the little cuts and scrapes the Avengers got from the fight, apart from Tony who simply flies off to get to his gala on time. The kids watch with curiosity, as all the adults patiently get stitched up, take their painkillers, or like Sam, accept getting an injection without even looking up from it. So once it is their turn, both try to act braver than they are, even though it is clear that getting examined and treated scares them. The medical officer does try his best to comfort them though, waiting for Bucks to explain to them what he does, what they need, and how the medication will help them. When the White Wolf turns to tell the doctor of his observation and the fear it raises in them, he agrees to run more tests, and also arranges for their clothes to be sampled, before Shield will clean and return them.

Once they are done there, the two supersoldiers take the kids to the cafeteria, to at least get them some cake and a fruit salad to fill up their hungry tummies with more than the energy bars from the jet. Seeing the children smile, as they consume the sweet dishes, makes both new parents beam happy at each other, even though trying to get the little boy to use a fork instead of his fingers proves futile for now. And after the meal, tired from all the stress, the jetlag, and the sugar, the two little ones pass out when Bucks and Steve carry them to the hummer Shield is letting them borrow to get home.
They have a bit of trouble, strapping them into the seats, so after losing to Bucky in rock-paper-scissors, Steve sits in the back with them, making sure the seat belts stay wrapped around the little bodies, using one arm to further shield them from getting shook by driving over New York's bumpy roads. And the White Wolf keeps to the right lane, driving below speed limit, careful to protect the priceless cargo they are bringing home.
