It happened in the year 2188, when Earth blew up.
I’m Leo Remus, contrary to my name, I’m no king of the jungle. I’m currently 19 at a height of 5’10, after graduating high school I decided not to go to college and now I’m sharing an apartment with my roommate Enzo in New York City. We make enough to get by and we’ve known each other since middle school. Enzo is around the same height as me but being more stump and rounded compared to my lean figure. New York City is now brimming with lights and there are giant video screens everywhere with advertisements of virtual reality and technology like video projections, contrary to many years ago.
I’m a lot slower and weaker than a lot of people, probably in the genes. As my father and mother weren’t no athletes, but they are successful workers who retired early. My father is currently 66 while my mother is 65. Currently I’m sitting in the couch with my friend Enzo watching the news. “This is Sandra Buleck on New York Cerex News. Military has advised people to evacuate to your nearby space shuttles, this is not a drill. Reports have come in from scientists that a giant meteor bigger than the one that killed the dinosaurs will hit Earth. I repeat, this is not a drill.” I jump up and grab the phone to dial my mom and dad... no answer. Enzo shouts “Hey dude we gotta get out of here quick!” I respond with, “Go on without me I need to find my parents!” I out in my old-school bomber jacket and hop out the door to start driving to my parent’s house which is around 1 hour away. I keep calling them on the way but still no answer, there wasn’t much traffic as everyone was going the opposite way I was going. I drive through a dirt road in the middle of the forest until I reach a simple yet peaceful house. I hop out and see that my parent’s car isn’t there, I’m too late. I look up at the meteor covering almost the whole sky and accept my fate. I take the secret key under the rock near the door and go inside. I notice all the pictures are still here except placed down, strange. I hop on the couch then lay down and close my eyes, then the meteor hit.
