SUMMONERS TALE
As he entered the magnificent, spiraling tower carved into a massive tree, Godric couldn't help his continued amazement at the sights of this world. The tower was truly awe inspiring as it stretched high out of his sight, the first floor inside the building was filled with dozens of robed figures bustling about, some of whom were players but a majority were npcs.
Across for the arched doorway he'd entered through was a set of closed doors, a pair of elven guardsmen standing to each side with an elven mage seated at a nearby desk. From what he knew, beginner mages were only allowed on the first floor of any mages tower, it took a great deal of fame and magical power to gain entrance to the higher levels. That didn't bother him all that much though, the only reason he would require a higher floor would be to learn more advanced magic and he wasn't at that point quite yet.
Returning to the matter at hand, Godric made his way over to one of the many mages seated behind a desk.
"Hello, I'd like to become a mage please." Godric spoke, dropping the required ten silvers on the desk, becoming one of the basic professions was as easy as that so long as you had the proper stats otherwise you would have to complete a special quest.
The elf seated at the desk frowned momentarily as he glanced at him, his hands reaching over to pick up the stack of coins.
"Please display your stats, a minimum of 50 intellect is required with the profession change fee." the mage replied in a bored tone.
Nodding in understanding, Godric brought up his status screen and displayed it to the mage.
"Hmm, a studious one, we don't get many of your kind around here." the mage commented, sounding less bored than before. "What evocation were you looking to join?"
"Earth." Godric replied immediately.
A mages evocation described what form of mage they were, it decided what element they were best with and what play style they used in battle. Godric had thought long and hard on what element he would pick and earth had won out. Beginner mages could only select from one of the five basic elements, wind, water, fire, earth and lightning, there were other more advanced elements but most of those were locked until the 2nd profession advancement or to special hidden professions.
When making his choice, Godric had considered many things as he would likely be stuck with this profession until he could advance to summoner at level one hundred or so. Choosing lightning or wind would give him the highest direct damage output, whereas fire and water were good for medium direct damage and high damage over time. Earth on the other hand was the most versatile of the five elements, it came with some decent direct damage but also had high defensive capabilities and the best crowd control.
Earth was the best element for him to pick at this time, it would be great in both party mode and solo and he could focus on it until he became a summoner, at that point he could switch to a damage oriented element and use his summons for defense and crowd control.
"Very well, take this and give it a wave." The elf spoke, reaching under his desk and puling out a brown tinted stick.
Taking what he assumed was a wand, Godric gave it a good wave and glanced up at the screen that popped into sight.
[p=center]You've used the Beginners Wand: Earth.[/p]
[p=center]Would you like to become an Earth Mage?

"Yes." Godric spoke, handing the wand back to the elven mage as his avatar was covered in a flash of light and more screens appeared in his sight.

"Can I help you with anything else?" the elf asked after a few seconds of silence, seconds that Godric had been using to review his change in stats and skills.
"Oh, ya." Godric answered, closing the many screens and returning to the matter at hand.
Other than the Handicraft skill, the rest was as he'd expected, there was a great deal of information on the normal professions on the various wiki's he'd reviewed.
"I'd like to purchase some spells," Godric continued, pulling his money bag from his inventory. "I'll take the healing and barrier spells please."
"Just a moment." The elf replied, shuffling through the many scrolls on the bookshelf behind him.
The spells Healing Touch and Barrier were the only two neutral spells available to beginners, they had no element so all mages could learn them and they could both come in handy once leveled. Godric wanted the healing spell in case he was ever stuck without a priest or healing item, especially with basic healing potions costing 5 gold a pop. As for the barrier spell, it would be especially handy for enemies that were strong against earth, which would render the earth barrier almost useless.

"Ah, here we go." the elf called out, pulling two rolled up scrolls from the shelf. "Healing Touch is 2 gold and Barrier is 1 gold."
"Here you go." Godric replied, handing the money over and taking the two scrolls from the elf. "That's everything."
"Thank you for your worship and welcome to the Mages Guild." the elf nodded, turning back to the book on his desk.
Walking away from the desk, Godric opened his inventory and selected the two scrolls he'd just purchased.

'Alright, I've got my profession and spells.' Godric mused, leaving the tower behind. 'Now I just need new equips and I can do some real gaming, rabbits and foxes should be easy enough to grind.'

"How can I help you today customer?" the npc asked as he entered the small general store, player owned stores were much better and cheaper but all the ones that he'd checked had nothing for players at his level and they had none of the crafting materials he needed.
"Yeah," Godric began, picking the items that he needed from the menu that appeared in front of him.
"One carving knife, needle, thread, polishing kit, flint, tinder, field cooking set and field alchemy set." the clerk summarized, pulling the items from behind the counter and placing them on the desk. "That will cost you 15 silver coins."
Passing the coins over, Godric tucked the items into his inventory and left the store. He would have picked up some alchemy and cooking materials as well but at his low level, it was more sensible to grind his Herb Gathering skill and use the gained ingredients to create food and potions.
'A quick stop to the tavern for lunch and I can hit up the equipment store before heading out the gates.'

-Thorin: Yo bud, what are you up to? Your four weeks are over right?
Looking up from his delicious steak dinner, Godric glanced at the private message from Paul. In Royal Road, his friends went by the same names they used in many other games, Paul was Thorin the dwarf, Tristan was Rendol and Steven was Zander.
"I'm still in Casak Forest village, just became a mage and I have a quest to do after I get some levels." Godric replied.
-Thorin: Cool, well the guys and I are still headed that way, we're walking so it'll take a while.
"How long? I can solo or hook up with some other noobs till you guys get here."
-Thorin: Bout a month or two, there's no roads to Casak so we gotta make our way through monster territory, we'll go slow so you can get some levels before we get there.
"Aight, it's cool." Godric replied, finished with his meal. "I'll see you guys when you get here."
-Thorin: See you then.

"Huh, these equips aren't all that bad." Godric mused, shuffling through the list of equips in the store. "I'll have to come back when I hit level ten."
Finished with his window shopping of the higher level equips, Godric picked out equipment at his level and made his way over to the counter, the equipment he'd picked out came as a set which mean't that it gave a few bonus stats in addition to the regular stats.
Newbie Cloth Set.
Basic cloth armor set for light armor professions.
Set Includes: Cloth robes, cloth pants, cloth hat, cloth gloves, simple sandals.
Durability per Item: 50/50
Equip: +20 Vitality, +20 Intellect, +20 Wisdom.
Set Bonus: +10 Intellect, +10 Wisdom.
Limits: Intellect 10+, Wisdom 10+, Level 1.
In addition to that, he'd picked a weapon from the rack, choosing to go with a staff over a wand as staves added more magic damage whereas wands added mana regeneration.
Newbie Staff.
A simple staff for low level mages.
Durability: 45/45
Damage: 4 - 8.
Magic Damage: 10 -13.
Equip: +10 Intellect.

As all jewelry and accessories with stats were level 50+, he'd pass on those until later.
"Is that everything for you sir?" the store clerk asked as he made his way over.
"Yeah, I don't need anything else right now." Godric answered, pulling out his money pouch.
"That'll be 5 gold coins." the clerk replied, taking the coins as they were handed over.
Making his way out of the store, Godric equipped his new items and made his way towards the village gates, it was time to do some grinding.
