Deep in the woods, past the point were any rangers will tread, in the lands where the Grate Beasts and Giant Monsters hold sway. There is a small still puddle. Formed, by trace amounts of magic and water bubbling up from deep beneath the earth, enriching the woods around it. The puddle has not even enough water to fill a cup, and not enough magic to be of interest to even the most starved of mages. The puddle in fact could not even fill its borders, form by the foot of a vary large animal. Dancing above the puddle was a small girl for reasons all her own, held aloft above the puddle on gossamer wings. As she danced she left mots of star dust in the air to cloud and form intricate symbols. Her dance, a dance of happiness, a dance of belonging, a dance of a new home. At the and of the last hoping spin during her final pose, the magic formed like the gossamer of a spiders web being revealed by the reflection of the sun. The glamour spell sank into the ground making the puddle into a a fairy fountain, her Fairy fountain, and she was proud.
But the magic was not done. It swirled and twisted into knots. As recognition of the new magic dawned on the fairy she panicked she knew what this meant.
A dungeon forming.
If she let it form and she became a dungeon fairy the Beast that rule here would kill her. She had to do something so the Fairy did the only thing she could. She reached down with both hands into the twisting magic grabbing it. With a quick twisting of her wrists in apposing directions the fairy broke the knot in two. But she still had to act quickly with a quick twist of hear hand wove the smaller peace into the spell to summon a protector. With the rest of the twisting magic the fairy wove a binding charm that would link hear and a willing summoned together forever a much better proposition that dying with a dungeon. Yes binding yourself to some unknown soul with a link that could drain her dry leaving her powerless rather than instant death do to pissing off a beast lord.
As she watched her summoning spell take form; a chill starting behind her eyes traveled down her, like cold skeletal insects inside her looking for a place to take root. She fled fling up into the shelter of the trees hopeing she survived the day. A dark magic mark, the kind of mark that is put on something feared or respected greatly usually both. She was officially screwed with no escape, she had asked for the beast lords blessing to use this land as a fountain. if it gets turned into a dungeon she would have broken her word to not use it for evil. Dungeons being considered evil by most even fey there inventors having mixed feelings about them.
She turned around in a well hidden spot and used her glamour to hide herself in an illusion so she could observe what she summoned. Considering that what she is summoning is marked by Darkness she figured hear best case scenario Ersixrindy would spare her life when she told him she had prevented a dungeon from forming by summoning this thing. Shaking herself from her fear she continued her observation of the now fully formed summoning node. A pail blue mana construct in she shape of a giant blue sphere inside of which she could get the hints of a body being formed inside.
Ten minutes latter the condensed ball of mana drifted to the ground and shrunk down to the size of the creature that had formed inside it and to her imminence pleasure seemed to be small and hopefully week. Then the shell shattered, with a flash of green light and a cat was revealed. The cat had silhouette braking black stripes all over its body, reminiscent of barbarian war paint. The part of the cats color that was not black had a gradation starting at white at its belly and paws shifting to off white red, to darker and darker shades of pink until a single broken line of rose that went from the tip of its tail to the center of its forehead. Starting at the cats red forehead gradient repeated itself forming five concentric rings of distinct shades of color getting paler and paler until the white frilly beard like hare that framed the cats square face.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
With a flick of its tail the cat started to look around. Seeing the charm of bonding ignored she cast an illusion spell to make it upper as If someone hiding behind a tree, not the one she was hiding in of course, threw a peace of meat on the ground. The illusion of the peace of meet landed on the charm so that when the cat tried to eat the meet it would interact with the charm. With the sudden movement the cats head snapped around to fallow the peace of meat until it landed on the ground.
She could have sworn the cat had a look of contempt on its face as it walked over to the meat. But instead of attempting to eat it the cat swished its paw around the charm of bonding banishing the illusion like so much fluff. Unraveling a mana construct illusion with a touch clear sign of a creature with magical blood. Not illusion the threads of mana would have been absorbed instead of dissipated. She idly wondered what kind of magic innately flowed threw its vanes since she could not tell at a glance not one of the more common attunements
The cat seemed to contemplate the charm of binding for a wile before going back to studying the surroundings. It almost seemed like the cat was looking for something. Of course it was looking for her. This is an intelligent summoning and it is not desperate to bind with her she however is desperate to bind with. This left her at a disadvantage.
Taking a deep breath to calm hear nerves she slowly exited hear hiding place without dropping hear illusion. The moment she started moving the cat locked its eyes onto her. There was no way any illusion could hide anything from those eyes. She counted five irises one black four clear the only reason she spotted them was hear skill with illusions making her sensitive to clear things. But what she could see behind his pupil convinced her illusion are useless. The sudden flashes of a corona of color starting at red and going down the rainbow.
When she stood in front of the ‘cat?’ she had a choice keep hear illusion or let them drop. Keeping up her illusion she started talking in the language of the fay.
Greetings you hue have answered my summons I desire a guardian for my fountain and a friend to share the morning light.
Greeting concluded the fay waited. As she counted the seconds the cat just stared at her unblinking then here eyes cot the eyes of the cats and she could see the reflection of hear illusion in the flashing corona behind its pupil. No doubt about it the cat can ignore illusion and block them from its site.
When her count reached one hundred and three the cat turned to the charm of binding which to her mortification was starting to twist back into a dungeon core. The cat with its ,for a cat, overly long foreleg reached for the charm. grabbing it with its paw and tossing it into its mouth after three sharp crunching sounds the cat swallowed the charm of binding/nascent dungeon core.
Getting ready for the inevitable battle of wills for control of the bond and hue has more power over the other the cat simply lays down on the ground and falls asleep not even a hint of a struggle as all of the power of the bond falls into hear over eager hands. Not knowing what to do or how to respond to this blatant brake from summoning tradition she simple hovered in front of it not knowing what to do.
Till her curiosity about weather it was faking its nonchalance hovered down and stood on its noes in order to tempt it to try and eat her. When it did not respond she tried bopping its nose with her foot also to no reaction. Relaxing a bit she started to fly away in order to think. Relaxing was a mistake because the moment she was airborne two paws cot her out of the air and proceeded to start suffocating her in soft belly fur as the cat snuggled her.
After fifteen attempts to escape the feline beasts snuggle that she is not going to think about she settled for having her back agents its belly its paws holding her in place wall it lays on its side. Having nothing better to do she contemplated the strangeness of her current summoning.
She thought about hear lessons on summoning how she had once asked hear teacher how you summon what you want to she still remembers his response.
“You don’t the soul you summon determines everything. If you have a task to perform and only have one shot at the summoning resources go to a wailing wall and make a deal.”
Turning to look at the face of the cat that has her trapped in its arms as it sleeps she had to make a decision this soul is respected and feared by the darkness she had full control of the bond but how much can she really control this summons.
