Chapter 163 - Sword and Shield

Chapter 163 - Sword and Shield

"Ester, could you take out the sword and shield?" Vincent asked. Then he approached Ester as she placed the two items on the wooden kitchen floor.

"Lenn. Renn. You need a new sword and shield. So I have something you both want and need right now." Vincent said while heading over to Ester. Then he extended his hands towards the sword and shield.

Vincent raised the shield, "This is your uncle's shield." Vincent then raised the sword, "This is your father's sword."

"Having chosen family over revenge, I believe you two are worthy to inherit their wills." Vincent extended the sword and shield to the twins of the next generation.

"I'm left-handed like my uncle and have the same class as my uncle. I shall inherit his shield and conviction to defend my companions." Lenn respectfully bowed and then accepted the shield.

"I'm right-handed like my father and have the same class as my father. I shall inherit his sword and determination to attack before my companions come to danger." Renn respectfully bowed and then accepted the sword.

A tear trickled from their eyes from possessing an object their late father and late uncle used.

Lenn confirmed the shield was indeed the one his uncle liked to keep as a spare. The shield had a small old dent at the bottom edge, only noticed if someone looked for it.

It was the same shield his uncle called the lucky shield. One time when Kass was using his ability, the shield was on his back. It ended up protecting him from a cheap shot.

Similarly, Renn confirmed it was his father's third spare sword. Koss sometimes lent it to Tula with a smile whenever she asked. The old Tula liked to say, "I shall carry my family's reputation with every swing." and Koss always felt proud watching his daughter trying her best.

Vincent then walked over to Yula and gave her the small bag filled with her late husband's money. Vincent also gave the Blood Bound Bag Of holding and explained how it worked.

However, when Vincent wanted to give what was contained inside Koss's bag, Yula only accepted the engagement rings. Yula left the other items, such as the Magical Pen and Magical Contract, to Vincent for bringing her daughter alive.

"I only need the rings. You see, Kass was scraping for money and used all he had to purchase a property nearby. We decided to lend him our rings until he could replace them with his monthly soldier retirement wage." Yula said.

After witnessing up close the corpse of the Demonic Beast, Yula understood what the group of three had to go through to survive. She decided it was a reasonable reward to her daughter's saviors.

Vincent and Kazumi became happy to own pricey items in the Soul Dimensional Storage. Vincent had a hard time keeping his excided grin from showing how glad he was. But he didn't want to appear as a greedy person as it was in his nature to be a territorial man.

Vincent never liked to give what was his. Not even in games where he had to finish a side quest by providing an interesting item. Thus, Vincent mostly never did side quests in games and farmed the difference in exp.

It was something Vincent learned in the orphanage he lived for a few years. He had to keep what was his and hide his things. Being an infected orphan made a few of the non-infected orphans bully Vincent and a few others. In the end, Vincent ended up becoming overprotective of what he liked.

"Looks like my boys also need a wash. Lenn, Renn. Go and get cleaned up. You don't want to guide Vincent, Ester, and Lupa with a bad smell, do you?" Yula instructed.

"Yes, mother." Lenn and Renn said in unison and ran inside with the equipment in their arms.

"Wash me, wash me, hehe." Lupa rushed in front of Vincent and insisted with an excited smile.

Vincent nodded and went to drag an empty basin. He thought Ester prepared everything, but she only prepared a sizeable wooden basin.

[Ester tried to prepare the things you needed, but Yula explained how water costs money, and we are currently at the end of summer. The price of water has been a bit high as of late since it didn't rain that much in these parts.]

-Well, we only experienced rain one time. So I guess the water is imported in this city. But what about magic? Elemental magic must be able to create water.-

[It's weird. Don't tell me there is some kind of ban?]

'I guess I have to ask.' Vincent thought while summoning a small amount of water and a cup to collect water and rinse Lupa.

Yula gazed intensely at Vincent and the energetic Lupa with a perplexed frown. Then she glanced at Ester and Tula. But none of them appeared to be embarrassed to do such a thing out in the open for Yula, Lenn, and Renn to watch.

Lupa's skin began to shine radiant white, and faint shapeshift mana vapor exited from her pores. The brighter her body shined, the smaller and different she became. Yula later saw a white wolf shaking what she previously wore and then jumping in the basin, splashing some water on Vincent in the process.

"A... a white wolf!" Yula uttered in surprise.

"Mommy. Big sister Lupa is very soft. I never thought wolfies are like big doggies." Tula said to her mother while sitting beside Ester. She then picked Plow and placed the little fox on her lap.

Plow glanced at the water while changing seats. Plow slightly trembled at the sight of it. It appeared Plow was afraid of water. However, after this day, Plow began to change her mind and accept receiving a bath.

"Umm... Ester. How can Lupa change her arms and also change her body?" Yula asked.

Ester noticed that Yula had a perplexed expression on her face. As if Lupa did what other Shapeshifters can't do.

Ester didn't know much about classes other than what her parents told her. She could inform Vincent about such subject as he wished to know. Moreover, a class only Beastmen can possess.

"Yes. Is it unusual for a Shapeshifter to do this?" Ester asked.

"I was an adventurer for a few years collecting herbs to sell for money until I met Koss and Kass one day. They saved my life by defeating a Great Yok Boar that noticed my presence when I collected herbs." Yula held the bag of coins tightly while reminiscing about the past.

"As a classless woman, I'm an F Ranker, but I kept my ears open to keep myself informed of dangerous sightings or herb locations. As you might think, not everything goes as planned, and I was lucky to get saved by the two siblings."

"What I'm trying to say is, I don't have much knowledge about classes. All I know is that Beastmen can change their bodies in one manner. Between changing their limbs or their whole body. However, I never heard of a white wolf Beastman so that Lupa might be a special case." Yula then changed her gaze to one filled with worry and warned, "Keep Lupa close if you want to protect her."

'Tula's mother is kind.' Ester thought with a warm smile. Yula said that Ester thinks of new reasons why Lupa should learn self-control and stay out of danger. Not only she needed to hide the retainer mark at the end of her tongue, but her class as well.

'So... does that mean I'm not the only special one in the team?' Ester thought with a bitter expression while watching Vincent wash Lupa's back and holding her from splashing the precious water until none remained in the wooden basin.

Lupa was too excited, and Vincent laughed, thinking of the old days on Earth. Both were having a good time, and so did Kazumi. She felt pleased watching Vincent relaxing for once.

A couple of minutes later, the twins returned clean and without weapons. Lenn and Renn stared at the middle of the yard. A white wolf was getting dried with a towel in front of them.

Lenn, "Why?... why is there a rare white wolf in our yard? Where did Lupa go?"

Renn, "Mother. Elder sister. What happened to our sparing partner beastman?"

"You silly little brothers. Lupa is the wolfie in our yard, hehe. Silly brothers are surprised." Tula replied.

Lenn and Renn scratched their heads. What Tula mentioned was a bit hard to digest the proof yet is in front of their eyes.

The twins had a grasp of what was happening, but someone started knocking on the entrance door before they could ask for further information.

*Knock, knock*

Someone kept knocking at the door. Lenn went to answer the door while Renn stayed next to his mother. The door opened, and Ben was the visitor knocking on the door. Ben had swollen red eyes, and he looked like a person suffering from a hangover. It seemed he cried and drank all night.

"Morning, little Lenn. I came here because I need your mother to come with me. Your mother needs to fill some paperwork about your uncle and your father." Ben said in a friendly yet respectful manner.

Ben was ordered to bring the next of kin for Kass's testament because he recently bought a property and wrote a testament on what happens after his death. Also, Kass added how if his soon-to-be wife has also passed away, his brother's family will receive rewards or compensation instead.

Ben followed Lenn inside until he became cautious and drew his sword.

"Uncle Ben, wait! The white wolf is Lupa." Renn urgently said.

"Huh?" Ben immediately stopped and said, "I never saw a living white wolf before. The white wolf got me startled and made me think I'm hallucinating again."

"Uncle Ben. Take a seat in the kitchen. We need to tell you something." Lenn asked Ben.

Later, Lenn and Renn explained to Ben what happened. They also mentioned how they want to learn from Vincent. The twins then continued about Lupa's ability to Shapeshift.

A short while later, everyone in the yard entered the kitchen. Ester, wolf Lupa, and Tula, with Plow in her arms, went upstairs to get changed for a day with the twins as guides.

Vincent and Yula sat on a chair in the kitchen. Ben explained why he made this visit and how he need Yula as quickly as possible to start the inheritance process.

The offices were stumped with work, and it was going to take some time to process the documents. Ben didn't want to see his friend's family burdened with the need for money after losing the breadwinner of the house.

Furthermore, Ben became glad when he heard how Vincent persuaded the young twins to stay with the family instead of becoming new recruits.
