Chapter 3: Kera
Sui Generis is claimed to be around 95% realistic. The missing 5 % are important because it is about a reduced sense of pain and less mental strain. Burning alive would be too hard for the people playing if those weren't there for example.
There is a slight breeze in the town, Kris hair being slightly affected with a typical background noice of people working on their jobs, talking to their neighboars or other people in general. Because there are a few little differences between this charakter and his real looks there is a little feeling of confusion that quickly fades away for Kris. It is to be expected that a little time of getting accustomed to their bodies is needed.
After appreciating all these details he quickly start to take a look at his stats, skills and more if there is more to be explored.

For a Kera the physical stats are all lower and magic oriented ones are higher. Agility can be considered as average although it is slightly higher than 10.

All skills in general are once again put into 2 general categories: Skills and Traits. Traits are specific abilities. They can be racial skills or even personal skills that are earned through very special actions but that is very rare. In general traits cannot be learned or gained through training.
Skills are considered to be learnable through training and/or understanding of how those work. So although Kera's Physique may be considered a Trait by its name someone who really understands how the Skill works could teach it to people who are not Kera. It is similar to some noble families keeping it secret how a certain type of magic works, only this noble family knows how to do it and they may even call their magic by the name of their family but that does not mean it is unlearnable. Other people just never get the chance to do so.
MemorizationTraitRank:Racial- Your Memory is greatly improved
The problem many people have with their traits is that it only gives you as much information as you discovered yourself. Now Kris does not know anything about his Trait so it does not show him its abilities.
The second main difference between Traits and Skills is that you can advance in Skills through hard training and then get some information by the System if you advance in ranks. Traits do not have a rankup system though, if you want to advance in your Traits you have to learn about it yourself or let someone teach you about it. A Trait is only as strong as the knowledge one has about the Trait.

Roughly 10 minutes and some hitmarks on the next wall he could find Kris finally regains his cool and starts to take some notes the first time ingame.
Skills:
(1)Racials:
Memorization: no clue at all, try to test my memory later after reading some books in the library
Kera's Physique: seems to be horrible
Future plans:
(1)somehow getting the skill up from lvl 1
(2)trying to strengthen my body will probably give experience cause the skill affects my body right?
(3)looking into late game potential. If there are improvements after i gain some levels this could be a really great skill that makes a hard start worth it

A trait has been upgraded.
MemorizationTraitRank:Racial Your Memory is greatly improved
You are now able to create a mental notebook. Thinking about opening it will give you a book you can read through.
Thinking about creating a new note or updating an old one will update the notebook.
So trying to take mental notes is for example a part of Memorization. And with his love for researching this of course calls for another note.
Skill Theories:
Discovering and probably realizing parts of traits and probably skills too will update those.
Deeper research into every skill is probably a good idea then, maybe some have hidden uses nobody knows about?
People around the townsquare have a quite amusing sight at that moment. Seeing a person who obvisously just started playing as Kera change his facial emotions from being awed about the realism to absolute horror and rage about the racial skill to being silent in the end.
They must be thinking 'That noob realized that he played a crappy race' or somthing similar. In the end it does not matter what people think about Kris because he already moved on wanting to train physically to get kinda close the gap to other players as soon as possible and to research the advantages that must be there if there are such huge drawbacks. Being depressed about something so simple wouldnt let him research to his fullest at all.
So what would the first thing be that one does in a new game? Going to the next guard and ask him about the most important places around town of course. And that is exactly what Kris does next.
"You must be one of the Chosen. This place is called the Town of Groun and the river you can see at the edges of the town is the Groun. There is nothing that special about our town but if you want to go to an Inn there is one if you follow the road to the North gate. Then there is our little Magical Institute at the nothern border near the Inn and a Training hall and the Adventurers Guild near the Southern Gate.
If you are interested in blacksmithing and similar professions you will find them on the eastern side and a library and the Governer's place on the western side. I hope this helps and have a nice day" (Random Guard)
"Thanks, this indeed does help me alot." (Kris)
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Actually this description includs everything important for the beginning. Information gathering at the library, physical training to research more about how the stats work and a magical institute to get a picture about how magic in this world works. So everything he wants to do at the moment is covered by such a simple desription of the town.
In most games that last aspect was always a weak point in my opinion because they never really explained how magic works at all. It was always like 'You use mana and do magic' and nothing more about it. And if there were some workings behind it they were always lacking like 'God gave us magic and we use it' or something similar. Kris always tried to find more logic behind those things in the past so that is exactly what he wants to study here too.
After deciding the order of work on all these early things this is what he came up with. First up getting some stat points through training because that decides pretty much everything about the later build of his character since if you can just train hard to get those stat points everything is fine and there is still every gamestyle open to play. But if that does not work then the stat point distribution with level ups, which is still not varified though, would have to focus many points on those since a solo build is the playstyle Kris is going to do.
Second will be researching in the library to get some informations about the area, general knowledge and maybe even first hints towards the magical direction. There is also the point that with this confirming wether reading books and researching helps to get stat points in intelligence and similar stats or not.
Afterwards it really depends on his situation. Running out of food or money to buy more would require doing missions early on. Otherwise going to the magical institute would be the favourable path.
In the long run learning some crafts would also compliment going solo.
Thus the Southern Gate is the first destination. Since the town is not really big after some minutes a river comes into sight and right on the other side of it behind a bridge is a huge training area with working out and training their weapons skills.
There also seem to be some people watching the progress of other people, probably instructors observing the trainees for faults in their style. After looking at the situation Kris moves to one of those people first.
"Hello I am Kris. May I join the training or do I have to sign up for that anywhere near?"(Kris)
"Jus' go over dere, grab a weapon an' start, we r' all jus' workin out a bit"(Instructor)
"Ok, thanks!"(Kris)
Instead of going to the little shelter with weapons inside, mainly bows, swords and daggers, Kris goes to a rather free spot and starts a little workout he also does in his martial arts training without a weapon.
Starting with some stretching he goes through general htis and kicks to finally imagining a fight against somebody with connected moves. All of this may look kinda pretty for outsiders but for him it is the simplest workout and probably wouldnt work on an enemy that reacts to those attacks properly.
Usually after that a spar with other people would be arranged but for now that part of the training is skipped in favour of some precise training on a training doll. The aim this time is hitting vital points in a fightlike state.
This of course includes searching for a training doll that resembles a human and not anymore just an empty area with him imagining his enemy. Most of the hits and kicks do not work really well yet so it is more of a trial and error kind of training this time with the aim of getting the timings in a fluid motion down to hit the desired areas.
The most used moves were simple kicks and punches and a simple roundhousekick are in development as well as some combinations.
After finishing with this schedule there is still not a single window of stat increase so moving on training with weapons comes next. His problem this time is that Kris never held a weapon in his life. So he just makes the typical nerd move and goes for the sword and starts swinging it wildly in the air trying to get a feeling for it.
After some time that did not help at all the instructor comes over.
"Stop with dis'. You never held a sword in yar hands right lad'? First dis is a great sword, hold it with both ya hands instead of one. Second don' try to swing in circles but to hit an enemy. Come ova' 'ere and I'll show teach ya a bit so I don' have to look at this anymore."(Instructor)
So the following hour was spent with him trying to get things right and the instructor, whose name is Larry by the way, improving his stance and probably becoming frustrated meanwhile. After this time he lets him practice some more alone working a bit on the basic swings. Then Kris leaves the area as it gets late and checking into an inn may be a good idea instead of spending the night out in the open.
After leaving the training grounds an expected window finally showed up.
After one day of training you gained these statsStrength+1Endurance+1
In general this is nice for Kris because it proves that training stats is possible. There is a bad feeling lingering beyond it though because he overheard other people talking about how they gained stat points after 2 hours of half-assed training already and he got only one in strength and endurance after nearly spending 3 hours intensively training.
A skill has been updated.
Kera's PhysiqueRank:RacialBeginner 13%Due to the weak physique of Keras your stats and fighting power are limited.
-Strength -5(-50%), Endurance -5(-50%), Vitality -3(-30%), Agility +1(+10%)
-Weapon damage reduced by 10%
-Gaining physical stats through training requires more effort for you
After a few minutes of collecting himself once again about this seemingly aweful skill he tries to console himself. Trying to level the skill may make those things easier and maybe a hidden perk is that gaining mental stats is easier for him? Anyways as he is thinking about those stats he notices that this action allows him to gain some simple explanations about what the stats do.
Stats:
Stats Theories:
1)Gaining stats through training: POSSIBLE
Stats:
STR:
* increses physical damage
END:
* increases physical resistances
VIT:
* increases health pool
AGI:
* increses attack speed
* increases stamina
WIS:
* reduces spellcasting time
MIN
* increases mana
* increases magical resistanc
INT:
* increses magical damage
LUC:
* increases luck
All these descriptions are very simple as it is the same as with traits that one has to experience the function of stats themself and realize what they do to gain a more detailed description. So trying to get more insight into these is on Kris list for research in the library for later on.
Finding a suitable place to train is really helpful for the beginning as although the bodies are really similar a difference is certainly there. Being weaker than usual feels a bit off at the beginning and especially not having the condition he hardly gathered over the last half year is a difference Kris has to get acustomed to.
On the other hand the improved agility makes it a bit easier to move around. He is nearly able to reach his feet with his fingers when he started stretching earlier and that was nearly impossible before.
Stat Theories:
what does this stat do? (Assumptions)
STR/END/VIT:
* one of those or possibly all alter condition
AGI:
* better control of body/ more flexible
After all this time a feeling of hunger kicks in and he realizes that there are 10 breads and a cantine of water in his inventory along with 10 silver. It would help a great deal to know more about the currency of this world already but that knowledge will definitely come once the bread runs out or maybe already upon trying to check into the inn.
Remembering that the guard mentioned that the Inn is to near the Northern Gate Kris is forced to once again walk through the whole town past the square he spawned in and then head around the same distance to the north.
Through the gate he can see fields stretching out around the road and a forest in the distance. Near the Inn which is the second biggest building here, there is a huge stable and places for wagons to take cover while for example merchants are in town. The biggest building is the Magic Institute and it looks like a big stone tower that is detailed with many rune-like inscriptions and has a kind of glow to it.
Once he reaches the Inn he immediatly enters it. There are many tables around and some people are eating bread and drinking bear but in general it is kinda empty. At the counter there is an elderly woman with a certain charm to her but for Kris would be more like a motherly figure.
"Hello, I would like to rent a room for the night, how much does that cost?"(Kris)
"20 bronze per night, 25 including breakfast. If you stay more than a week we can talk about more."(Innkeeper)
"I would like to stay for a week then for 1 silver."(Kris)
"You must be kidding. Simple math already accounts to 160 bronze for 8 days, without a meal. I may be a woman but I am not stupid. So 1 silver 60 bronze and be happy that the breakfast is included or you can stay elsewhere if you find another inn near, Sir."(Innkeeper)
Good to know that a week here seems to be 8 days and 100 bronze equals a silver. It is always nice to gain some general knowledge early on.
After paying the Innkeeper gives him 2 keys and tells him the directions to his room.
Regretting to go for such a greedy price he pays it and moves on to the room to stay for the night and end the first day of 'Sui Generis'.
The room itself is kept really simple. A simple bed with a chest in front of it with a lock on it. So the second key is for the chest. This will be Kris new home for the next week in Sui Generis.
