Chapter 4

Quill probably laid there for a few minutes as the adrenaline slowly wore off and all he really felt was pain in just about every place in his body. He was pretty sure his body decided to even grow new parts just so he could feel pain there too.

He winced as he slowly sat himself up and looked down at his scratched up chest, his shirt was certainly ruined… Shit! His backpack!

Quill quickly took his backpack off. Or at least tried too, the shoulder bite from that damn rat certainly didn’t make him speed things up as he winced from the movement. It was then he noticed the bastard had literally bit through most of one of the shoulder straps on it.

Taking it off. He looked at his backpack to find the stupid rat had scratched the shit out of the actual bag part. Several tears all over its surface along with the completely torn strap. Granted the backpack kept him from getting flayed in his back and probably stopped the rat from chewing through his whole shoulder but that didn’t make him any less upset that it was ruined.

“There had better be somebody who can repair this thing when I get out of here.” He muttered before turning his attention to his shoulder.

Bleeding yes, but it didn’t seem too bad. Not like he was an actual doctor or anything but he could still move his shoulder which probably was a good sign. Hopefully it wasn’t serious. But maybe something that could help was a level up. Don’t some games allow you to recover all your health when you level up?

He quickly summoned up his status screen and looked at it carefully. He wasn’t sure how dirty fighting works exactly. He didn’t really need help with scratching and biting but maybe there was some kind of bonus?

Before he put any more thought into that he decided to distribute his points. Now given that the message earlier said something about being unable to distribute points into his soul. He was naturally inclined to try and test that out for himself with his singular (Kinda stingy not going to lie) stat point and so tried to put it into his soul.

Error! Could not put stat point into soul, redistributing evenly to body and mind

Well that confirmed it. His system thingy has totally glitched out on him. Hopefully the soul wasn’t very important. Pretending as if there wasn’t every religion on earth telling him otherwise.

“I don’t suppose I can talk to a dev or something for this?” Silence was his answer so he assumed not.

Also no full heal either but he did feel a little better, a little stronger. That was probably thanks to the point distribution towards his body.

Speaking of, he wonder what his stats were currently looking like n-

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of scraping and clicking and clattering echoing from within the tunnels where the train would normally go. His eyes briefly moved over to the electronic sign which simply said “Arriving” and a feeling of dread slowly etched through him because whatever was making that sound was certainly not a train and he had a very good feeling he didn’t want to be here or visible whenever the thing that was arriving showed up.

Quill, as quickly as he could, headed over to one of the concrete benches and dove under it. Not the greatest of hiding spots. Actually it was total shit but there was no way he was going to make it up those stairs in his condition unseen.

He had just barely made it under the bench when he saw the thing emerge from the tunnels.

It could be kind of described as a maggot colored giant worm if said worms had elongated thin multi jointed arms coming out all over its body which it then used to drag said bulbous body across the tracks. Each hand held the usual 5 fingers but with nasty looking black talons on the end. Plus this nightmarish abomination also seemed to have a wide human mouth dripping saliva all over everything giving it a very uncanny look to an already uncanny looking monster.

You are Inflicted with fear

No fucking shit! What?! Did the system managed to grab its deductive reasoning degree from a youtube channel with how fucking obvious it was that he was afraid!!

Quill had to bite down on his lip just to make himself not utter a sound as the creature used its hands to shuffle through the track. Several of the free hands then started patting the floor of the station and it was there that he noticed the creature didn’t have eyes which was a small saving grace given his current position.

As the hands moved over the dead rats, the monster slowly arched its body up onto the platform until its drooling mouth was in front of the dead rats. The monster seemed to examine them ever so briefly before opening its mouth revealing large molars and devouring both of them with one bite and a very meaty and disturbing crunch. The monster's saliva mixed with the blood as it dribbled everywhere.

After swallowing the two rat carcasses and lapping up the spilled blood. The horrid monster slowly turned its body back to the track and gripping the walls of the tunnels the thing thrust itself forward, back towards the tunnels disappearing from his sight.

The scraping of its claws against the stone and rails seemed to slowly fade away but Quill still felt the need to keep his ass underneath the bench. He was so thankful that the creature didn’t seem to notice him. Beyond thankful. Super duper uber thankful!

After another few minutes that felt more like an eternity he slowly inched his way out from underneath the bench with the first thing he did was check when the next “Train” was coming and saw that he had about an hour.

The next thing he did? Ran like hell towards the exit! There was absolutely no way he was staying in this place when something like that was wandering around in this tutorial dungeon thing! The system might call him insane all it wanted too but he wasn’t THAT insane!

His body ached in protest as he bolted up the stairs and down the hall towards the gates and exit. Some part of him did take note that he was running faster than he could have normally. Much faster actually. But he was pretty sure that whatever the hell that creature he saw was, it could go much faster than him.

Quill ran past the half eaten guard not even phased by the smell anymore, jumped over the waist high payment gate and booked it towards the exit only to find iron bars welded across the exit with nothing but a black void past. Slamming his foot into the iron bar cursing and promptly got a screen popping in front of his face.

Can not leave the tutorial area until the designated time reaches zero

Bullshit! You could skip tutorials in video games! So let him skip the tutorial here!!

The silence was the only thing that answered him yet again and Quill decided that now was a great time to have a mini mental breakdown. He spent the next five screaming, hitting, cursing and crying.

Finally after letting out his emotions with his shoulder and chest burning like hell did he finally sit down with a groan by the exit. Or what should be the exit.

Okay, so he needed to take stock of his situation…. Actually, no. He needed to clean his wounds. It would be embarrassing if he managed to survive giant rats and whatever the hell that monster was, only to die to micro bacteria. Would there even be some kind of super bacteria that was level 1,000 or something? He had no idea but he didn’t want to be the festering ground for such a thing to come into existence.

Was there even a bathroom in this station? He never really looked but he might as well check. Plus this “Tutorial” station seemed to mimic the environment of the actual station so even if it didn’t perhaps he would actually have a bathroom in here. Come on tutorial. Throw him a bone here.

He painfully sat up and began to look around the area. There was a locked door nearby but otherwise nothing else seemed to give any indication that could lead to a bathroom.

Quill glanced over at the half eaten dead guard and the small kiosk with the broken window. If he was a betting man he would probably say the keys to the door were somewhere there. Maybe he can also find something else that could be of use.

Quill decided to check the kiosk first for what he felt like were obvious reasons. Said reasons being he didn’t want to pat down a half eaten bloody corpse.

The interior was kind of destroyed and there were blood smears across the floor and various surfaces. Poor guy probably put up a fight but obviously didn’t make it.

He rummaged through the kiosk and was delighted to find a small first aid kit! This should help greatly! He quickly threw that in his backpack and tried to find some other stuff that could be useful but he only found some trail mix that likely belonged to the guard and a set of keys that he hoped would go to the locked door.

He then turned his attention to the guard and very carefully turned the guard over, trying to ignore all the wet squishing sounds that were coming from the half eaten body or the very obvious horrible smell.

He actually had more luck with this guy than he did with the kiosk. He found a taser and a gun! He had no idea how to use the dumb thing but he had a gun! Better watch out world cause the crazy guy has a loaded gun that he doesn’t know how to use! But how hard could it be? Just point it to what you want dead and fire. Easy!

He then headed over to the locked door and started trying keys. On the fourth one he unlocked the door and opened it up to reveal a small lounge-like area with a vending machine, a small table and a few chairs. There was also a second door that led to a bathroom too!

“Fucking paradise!” He could practically cry tears of joy right now. He promptly shut the door behind him and locked it. Now it was time to clean and dress his wounds. Hopefully it wouldn’t be too difficult.

He entered the bathroom and after washing his wounds awkwardly and painfully, he tried to patch up and stitch his wounds based on vague memories from hospital shows.

So it wasn’t difficult per say since he had nothing really to compare it to. But it was certainly messy and very very painful. The nice clean bathroom (Which surprised him considering this was supposed to be modeled after a metro station) Was now a mess of discarded bloody paper towels, a messy sink and Quill sitting on the bathroom floor with a very poorly stitched shoulder and chest trying to not cry from the pain he just had to endure.

“That was more unpleasant than it had any right to be…”

At this point. He would have to say he was done with the day. 110% done. He slowly made his way out of the bathroom and found a nice cozy spot on the tiled floor and laid down. The moment his eyes shut it all went to black.
