Chapter 0:Prolouge
My life became quite interesting quite recently, or should I say my second one. What about the 1st you say?
Well it was quite normal I was born grew up and my life wasn’t anything remarkable, and finally died from a stroke at the age of 65. NOT.
While my life was far from extraordinary I didn’t die peacefully I died choking on a damn chicken bone. A chicken bone, you know the tiny one no the drumstick. Do you know how bad is it to die while choking to death while there isn’t anybody around to help you?
No? Well good for you.
And for those who have will know that it is everything but pleasant. The bone goes the wrong tube, due to its small pointy end it starts to rip, make your throat itch and you start coughing. The spasms make the bone bite deeper in to the flesh making it shred it slowly. Eventually blood from the punctured walls is release and slowly fills the lungs. And all while you are in a coughing fit trying to get the bugger out but all you do is make it worse. Eventually you start running out of the good ol’ oxygen and start to show signs of hypoxia not that I could see my face or something.
Meanwhile your lungs and brain try to keep you breathing causing further pain. All in all you die in a fit of blood coughs and pain. Not the worst way to go but hey it’s not the best either.
And now to the bad part. Eventually due to lack of oxygen my body stopped convulsing and all that’s left was the pain and suffering slowly fading away, along my vision and lastly my hearing. You know what’s the kicker of the story? The last thing I saw was someone entering the room I was in. Life is just loves its black humor doesn’t it.
And now all that I could feel was nothing for quite a while. I don’t know how long I was out or were or even when. All I know is that I was in and out of consciousness quite a few times. Even now I wonder why that happened. ‘Didn’t I die?’ was the most common question I had during that period. Mostly due to my mind being a jumbled mess. Eventually a change occurred in the form of violent shakings. Everything was shaking in every direction, and to top it all heat was increasing almost to the boiling point. Eventually all those shenanigans jolted me in to full attention. The first thing I felt was massive weight pressing on me which gradually increased bit by bit. I couldn’t think too much about it before I felt a sudden reverse in the weight, followed by a massive force from the opposite direction and it was lights out.
When I woke up I felt refreshed for some reason. Everything felt clear sharp even though I couldn’t see a smidge. The first thing I did was try to move around, which was hard due to the apparent lack of room to do so, everything felt kind of squishy. Eventually I felt some of the whatever was around me to budge and slowly but surely a made some more wiggle room. Not long after the light in the end of the tunnel metaphor was in order. As I started to do directional movement (wiggling around desperately) toward the light I put my hands and spread the opening of my prison of squishington.
What greeted me was odd to say the least, odd in the manner of “what the hell is going on here”. Above me was what looked like a whole and trough it I could see the moon…s? Yeah more than one. As for the whole, after looking around and giving the cave mark on my surroundings I can say that it was quite gloomy and serene at the same time.
In short I am in the middle of a crater inside a cave with a huge lake in the middle with a hole in the ceiling, recently made due to the bubble that falls now and again. Everything other then the lake and my smoldering crater is pitch black. Deciding to check in my self I look down and I see nothing even though I am sure I am standing upright. Looking around a bit to the left I see something akin to a black leg of an ant or something with a sharp point at the tip. Deciding to touch it for some reason I move my left arm for grabs and the leg moves away.
For some reason I feel my mind refusing to make proper connections and is making my head feel cloudy. I move my arm again and leg moves with it. I look to right and see another leg. I look back to the crater and see the dark rock of the cave shattered and molten from the brownish red one, from which I came. And amid the broken pieces is a fleshy oval shaped thingy with a ripped open top and yellow oozing from it.
Mechanically I slowly back away to the water and look at the calm surface. What greets me isn’t the image I saw every morning in the mirror instead it’s the face of something akin to a scorpion. A smooth black hard looking surface with no eyes and four mandibles where the mouth should be. The only reaction I could muster at the moment was
MC-“AAAaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHhhhhhhhHHH”
Chapter 0: Prolouge: Crash-landing
Chapter 1: After the Crash.
MC-“…aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh”
I don’t know how long was I screaming, and weather it was physically or mentally all I know is that by the end of it I was tired and the moons were gone. The darkness barely kept at bay by the countless stars in the sky. All I had in my mind was confusion, fear of the unknown and sadness.
When I came to it there was singing coming from the hole above. Looking up greeted me a bluish sky, a bit darker than I’m used to but close enough. I layed there for a while simply thinking in loops. Going over the same things again and again hoping that I can explain the situation logically, the very definition of madness and no Spartan to kick me out of it.
After I while the sunlight started to reflect from the water surface in to my face. Which brought me back from my brainless state of shock. I walked closer to the water to look at my reflection again, with a bit of hope that I will see something different. This time I wasn’t shocked, surprised and scared but not shocked. I walked in the shallow water and waited for it to still and took a look at myself.
My body was indeed black, pitch black I probably wouldn’t have seen myself if not for the moonlight the day before. My body I guess… was slightly elongated ellipse with a segmented tail two to three times my body length ending with a long pointy spike. On my body were eight legs with three segments each ending with a sharp point which looked quite stabby. For some reason when I walked on the stone earlier no sound was made which is odd considering they look made out of carapace. On the front of my body was the head I think? It wasn’t connected with a neck it just was a part of the body. And finally my mouth had four mandibles. Every single part of my body I could control without any trouble, like I grew up with it.

After getting over the aftershock I began testing my limbs limits. I found that they were quite nimble, I could skitter very fast if I focused on it but I lost balance quite easily when at max speed. Definetly need more practice. The mandibles and the tips of my tail and legs were quite strong. I tried them on the rocky ground around the lake. I could chip stone and shatter sandstone without a problem. Though I found out I had no tongue, I could feel only if it was bitter at best anything else was tasteless. The most amazing thing was in fact my carapace not only was it hard but flexible when needed, like a non-newtonian material. Its normally soft but when rapid pressure is applied it acts as a hard as metal. This and it has a vision of some sort. I can actually see using the carapace itself, it’s not on my whole body but on the places where I need it the most and in order to ensure no blind spots, I also have a patch at the back of my tail spike I don’t know why I have there yet but I can guess it’s for better aiming. On another note my brain is quite different in function, not only it can support my conciseness with its small size but can also multitask which is weird as hell. I found it out while moving my legs, I shouldn’t be able to move nine different limbs individually with a normal bran. I could draw two different pictures at the same time and don’t screw it up, stick figures for the win yay.
Finally, I set down and calmed. And started to get in my thinking mode. All this time I was slightly panicking and trying to distract myself from whatever this is. And still am.
MC: ‘What the hell happened to me’
I look at myself, with the best point of third person perspective, my tail.
MC: ‘My body looks like a predator. Hmmm how would I know when I’m hungry, does it work the same way, will I grow, can I grow….?’
All these question filled my mind and more putting me in slight state of panic and fear due to the unknown. I couldn’t feel any hunger or discomfort only fear.
Splash, splash…splash
I started hearing sound from the lake. When I glanced from the side of my head I noticed that the sun has gone down already. The sky was dark orange and the cave barely illuminated. What made the sound was a small fish jumping in and out of the water.
MC: ‘I ain’t in Kansas anymore, but I’m glad somethings stay the same.’
The more I looked at the fish the more I felt my upper torso cramping.
MC: ‘I gees I do feel hunger, I think? For all I know what I am wants to be kinky with the fishes!’
I slowly crept up to the lake and stared intently at the fish. I watched it go up and down, up and down. It was actually quite calming and relaxing watching the fish do its thing. SO much so that I was already on my belly with my tail wrapped around and enjoying the show. It was somewhat healing. Eventually I was starting to doze off, after all it was quite dark and just the end of the bigger of the two moons was lighting the lake. Now that I thing about it how big am I…..
I started dozing off to sleep with a mind full of questions until….
Screeeeeeeeeeeeach
I snapped to attention and looked up seeing a shadow swoop in, take the fish and fly away. This brought terror to me as I could’ve been the one invited to dinner instead. The shock cased my vision to stutter like an old TV in a white and black color scheme. Almost every black color in the room got inverted with white with small floating sparks on the water, it happened so fast it made me flinch. When looked again it was gone. I thought it weird but for the moment I I had bigger problems, or smaller too dark to tell.
MC: ‘Whatever took the fish away was definitely big, considering the fish is about half my torso and the thing just swooshed it out of the air like it weighted nothing. Why didn’t it hunt me is last night is beyond me. Probably cuz they weren’t here? A meteor just crashed through the ceiling not long ago. Either they are stupid, brave or they lack predators or just smart enough to know that a rock isn’t a threat. What about me then? I’m small and tasty looking black morsel…. Well black isn’t very tasty looking now that I think about it and my carapace is tough so it probably would...’
Screaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaach
*Crash*
In the middle of my thoughts I was tackled by something familiar. I haven’t seen the flying screech before, but I know how it sounds.
I slowly stand up on my legs and carefully lower my center of gravity by bending my legs and putting my tail above my head like a scorpion. I never fought before, even though I’m afraid, panicking, and feeling intense fear, my breathing is just fine for some reason. Among the many emotions I feel is eagerness my past life wasn’t anything interesting it lacked a certain flare life needed to be livable and pleasant, the only place I had a semblance of those happy feelings was in games. And now my life is on the line. Whatever tackled me is obviously after a meal and I for one won’t be on the menu tonight.
Whatever the thing was knocked me back further in to the darkness. The only thing I see is the pond far away, it knocked me quite far, I wonder if I’m lighter than I look. I slowly move backwards keeping an eye out to the pool and hoping to catch the shadow of whatever is attacking me using the 3rd rate sun light (sun->moon->lake->mc). My gaze trying to pierce the unending darkness finally glimpses a shadow coming from the side.
On instinct I stick the shadow with the pointy end of my tail and feel it get heavy as a *thud* sound rebounds across the cave. As I find it uncomfortably stuck in something obvious I try to move it only to hear wet squishy sounds, it takes a while and I manage to dislodge my tail. On just touch I can say that my tail went right through the bugger and he is pretty much dead or on the way to the afterlife, either way It’s my win. I slowly hook my tail spike to the corpse and drag it in the light. What greets me is one ugly mother of uglies.
It looks like a bat, and that’s where the cuteness ends. I find most bats to be cute to a degree and this thing, minus the gaping chest wound, is… is… I don’t know how to describe it. It has two sets of two blind eyes, a mole like nose transparent wings, each three times the length of its torso, and ears with bones visible in them, a lipless mouth full of triangular jagged teeth, its feet are scaly with a bird like grip and it torso, the size of mine, looks like a patchwork of fur, with different colors varying from grey trough dark brown and pitch black, and a lot of missing pieces showing plenty of its skin with dark veins.
As I look at its face I see it was still alive. And its eyes even though blind, they show some understanding and intelligence… wait since when can I see emotions in people’s eyes or their state of mind for that matter. Hmm. It’s not like I can see anything other than four milky white orbs staring right at me it’s more like a feeling. No idea where its coming from but damn this bat is one tough son of a gun. He has gaping hole in his stomach which leaks blood everywhere and is still breathing, even though It’s quite shallow and getting weaker by the minute. As I watch its life slowly wither awayi drift asleep, or I tried before I could…
*Sceaaaaaach*
*Screaaaaaaaaaaaaaach,Screeeeeeeeeeach*
The whole ceiling erupts in screeches shaking me from my stupor. I hear dozens upon dozens of wings flutter in the air getting closer and closer. Not long after a swarm of the bats flies right through the moon light and they start circling around me. All of them look pissed at me, well can’t blame ‘em. I did just kill one of their own and dragged him for a few meters right in front of them. As I am just about to take an offensive position the swarm ring breaks off and flies deeper in to the darkness, further and further, eventually I stop hearing them and that’s left Is silence.
As slowly calm down and let the battle drugs in my system to metabolize, my anxiety and stress slowly fade away leaving only a slow thumping sensation in my head. Quite odd one actually it isn’t constant like a headache at it isn’t painful either it is just annoyingly repetitive. Thump, thump over and over, twice every second like a clock. I slowly try to tune it away so that I can sleep but I for some reason I can’t, and for reference I could tune out the bat swarm from a few minutes ago if I wanted. Figuring I won’t be able to take a well-deserved nap it try to focus on it until I feel a mental click.
[Congratulations you just leveled up]
Huh…?
