It is 1994. In a small Easter-European country. The occupation has ended and the Russians have withdrawn and left behind their thousands of derelict military facilities all around the country. But in all this commotion of trying to put their country back together, people have forgotten a small Southern corner of the country which has not appeared on any map for a long time. It too was ravaged by occupation. Here too bases and other structures were built for the purposes only known to the occupying force. And here too they have left, leaving behind all their garbage from the mundane to... not so mundane. People here have been self-sufficient for decades. So for them, nothing really has changed. Life is still the same. The world is still the same. Just that instead of the Russians, there are all manner of other strangers about. Acting in strange ways, driving in strange cars, picking through the garbage, asking questions about self-evident things, questioning how things have always been done. And some even have the audacity to claim that the year 1994 was several decades ago. Welcome to the Lost County. Author’s note: This is a short story project I have been developing since 2005. It features interconnected stories happening in the same world and around the same location. Therefore, the stories can be read in any order. As for genre, the best classification would be weird fiction or dark fantasy with elements of folklore, mystery, sci-fi and horror. This is a slow burn project where I am more focused on expanding and exploring the world and lore both in time and in space, rather than moving the story forward. And of course I have a big cast of characters whose viewpoints I can utilize to do that. There are currently 34 stories. Length will vary usually between 2000-9000 words, although the longer ones are up to 30k words (these I have cut into sections 6-7 thousand words long) In the past years I have written maybe 2-3 stories per year.
