Chapter 13: Making The Drop

"Number one-hundred-and-thirty-seven, you're out!"

More people had been chosen to make The Drop, and most of those poor fellas didn't make it. But thankfully, like Owen said, they didn't get any broken bones, or broken necks, or broken arms or legs, or any other broken body stuff.

I don't want to be eliminated in the first game... I really need to think of something, something that can help me break my fall before the enchantment does. Alright, why can't those guys break their fall? We saw them have their staffs, and they have enough time... wait, they were falling at a very high speed, you can't strategize as you are falling that fast.

"Number fifty-six, you're up!" Owen cried to the crowd, and that person with that number stood forward, and that guy, was Gunther, the son of Trad, one of the Twelve Protectors. He stretched his arms in an abnormal position, and spun his staff perfectly. Dang, I wished that I can do that without dropping my staff or getting a bump on my foot...

He walked forward, but unlike the others, he didn't stand on the plank, he stopped on the edge instead. "I'll accept that..." Owen mumbled, "Alright! Now, ready? Set!" The crowd started the countdown, now that is making me nervous, cause after that, you will decide on whether you can make it or not...

Ah! This is actually giving me those feelings similar to those final-year high school students before they take their final exams!

"One!" The plank vanished into the shadows, and Gunther rushed towards the edge without any hesitation. Most of us walked to the edge, the ones with handles to hold onto, and watched him fall. We saw a glimpse of Gunther raising his staff, and a watery dragon materialized from his magic staff. The dragon roared, and engulfed its summoner, turning into a huge ball of water before they plummeted into the lake.

Once Gunther had resurfaced, the dragon had completely vanished. "The enchantment didn't break his fall, and he landed safely in the water, so that means, number fifty-six, you pass!" Owen exclaimed with his trusty microphone sidekick, the crowd roared and cheered for Gunther, who is now the only person for now to pass 'The Drop'. However, Gunther's expression was not an impressive nor a satisfied one. He doesn't seem to be proud of himself for completing the first game for some reason.

"Now, number fifty-six, you must now swim toward that yacht with the green flag over there." Owen pointed to one of the two yachts that are close to the tower, and Gunther began to do exactly that.

Gunther's turn seemed to serve as a leap of inspiration to the other contestants, as more people started to pass after him, like Felix, who made himself float in the air, which it lasted for about a few moments, and Aisha, who created a trampoline out of water above the lake, which made her bounce so high in the air, it made me worry about her for a second. I was still thinking about which position should I use... I should use something, that can break my fall. Should I freeze the waters' surface? Wait, that could be a terrible idea. Cause if I did that, then I could possibly be the one that will get broken body parts... Then...

"Next, number eleven!" That sentence broke me out of my thoughts, it's already my turn... I have to do it, I need to get to the next level. Alright, I got this, hopefully... I managed to step forward, and stood on the plank, "Right! Ready?" "Wait!" I exclaimed, I turned to Owen, there's something I have to do before I take a swan dive into the lake. I took my top hat off, and gave it to Owen, "Please take care of my top hat, sir, and please return it to me once I'm done."

What? You guys know that I can't let my favorite accessory get wet, right?

"Don't worry, kid. Your hat will be safe in my hands. Now! Ready? Set!"

The crowd started to count, I need to think of a position, which is the most suitable one for this?

"Three!" One position had come to mind when it comes to situations like this... That's it! I'll use that one! But I don't know whether I can make at least one that works...

"Two!" I need to calm down, it's time, this is it. I took a deep breath, ignoring all sounds that will distract me, the crowd's loud cheers and roars, the other contestants wishing me luck (I really appreciate that guys, but I really need to concentrate and calm down right now), and the waves crashing against each other from the lake below.

I got this.

"One!" The plank below me disappeared into the shadow pit, and I fell at high speed.

The feeling of falling was, terrifying, despite the fact that you won't die in this fall, it was still horrifying to fall from a great height. I still have to concentrate, I calmed myself down and tried to ignore the fact that I was falling. I took another deep breath, which was quite hard while plummeting into a lake, I silently chanted, "Element of Ice, Third position, Zero Creation!" If you guys don't know what this position does, it creates things that the user wants, only besides the fact that it is all made from thick ice. So, in this case, the object I would like to create would be a; "Ice Slide!"

A slide, but all the properties of it were made from ice, materialized beneath me, and I slid down. After those few seconds of horror from falling, sliding down an ice slide was actually, fun. I had rarely used the slides in my palace during my childhood, and this brings back some good old memories.

I continued sliding down the slide, what I didn't know is, I never thought on the slides' end. Here's the thing, if you use this position, let's say for example, you want to make a sword, you must imagine the entire object in the form or shape that you want before creating it. If you don't do that, well, the object will just take up a random form, and it won't be the form or shape that you want. And now, this is my problem, I only thought of a slide before I created it, and just that.

Now, thanks to that simple mistake, the slides' end would aim upwards, which would also send me flying.

"Oh boy," I mumbled to myself. But, in my defense, I was actually panicking and I never focused on imagining the structure of the slide. I was about to reach the end of the slide before I asked myself; just how high will I go? Can the lake break my fall? Will the enchantment save me, at the cost of me being eliminated? Well, all of those questions will be answered, right now.

After the end of the slide, I flew up into the air, and I embraced myself for the worst to happen. I plunged into the water. Every part of my body hurts, now, I learned that, water might not break your fall perfectly... "The enchantment didn't activate, so that means... Number eleven, you pass!" I heard Owen yell from above, the crowd cheered once again on my success. I sighed in relief, I had managed to slide down into the lake without the interference of the enchantments.

After Owen had instructed me to do the same thing that every winner of this game had done, I started to swim towards the green-flagged yacht, where many people who had passed this round await. "Nice! You made it!" Felix cheered, "Thanks!" I replied, as they helped me to get onto the yacht. "That was awesome! I was actually worried that you were gonna fail back there!" Aisha praised and gave me a dry towel, "It's alright, I passed right?" I reassured her, "I just hope that Claude is impressed up there." I looked up, to the direction of the booth where Claude and Trad reside in.

"He will be." Felix promised, "I'm sure that he'll be so proud of his little brother for completing the first game of this year's Magician Games!" "And besides, I think that he'll be even more delighted when you pass the other games!" Aisha added.

Well, they're right, I bet that Claude is now silently shedding tears of joy in that booth. Now, the only thing I will need to worry is the next game.
