James was "driving" his 2005 Dorf Pivot down Summer Street in Janduary, Sascatchawan. It was not particularly like or unlike other town's in Sascatchawan. It was small, with 2 restaurants, and 3 gas stations. The one odd thing about the town was it had more gas stations that restaurants, which in my mind is uncommon. Janduary was really just a regular small town, and James was a completely regular guy. He didn't have white hair, or a name like Rain, or any major scars, or a sister to protect with his life or really anything uncommon about him. His parent's did not abandon him, although they were divorced (amicably).
I say "driving" previously because James was not really paying attention to what he was doing. He was really half driving at best. He was intensely focused on trying to swipe a particular objective in the game he was playing while driving. Although the game admonished him to NOT play while driving, James did not listen. He had not been in any bad accidents outside of fender benders in parking lots, and so thought himself a particularly successful driver. He definitely did NOT want to actually stop at the gas station for his game's objective because he had to be at work at least somewhat on time. But he definitely needed resources for his FingerMon Go collection of numerous (up to 1700 now!) elemental mice. He was very driven to capture all the various elemental mice in the game, even though it had proven difficult for him with only one FingerMon stop in the town where he lived and 0 gyms. He worked at a tanning salon as a receptionist, which gave him lots of time for FingerMon most days, which he enjoyed, and let him talk to people (girls mostly, although more men than you think use a tanning salon), which he also enjoyed.
He was not particularly smart or lucky, but he was particularly driven about stupid things in which he was interested, which is not a bad trait. Go big or go home, even if it's just FingerMon... Anyway, James had just swiped his FingerMon stop when he very suddenly died with no realization of how it happened. He surprisingly did not get into a car accident (he actually was a pretty good driver, and had learned to multitask FingerMon fairly well). His Dorf Pivot was well maintained, and his oil changes and tire cleanings were up to date. He was not overweight, although he was definitely not in shape, but he did not die from a heart attack or any physical ailment. He died from a rock hitting his head at 34,000 miles per hour. This is rather slow for a meteorite, but unfortunately it was plenty fast enough after it entered his left window and inserted itself into his head along with a few pieces of very hot glass. He had no last thoughts as suddenly he was just.. elsewhere, and no longer swiping anything in a rather comfortable void of light and sound that was somehow soft at the same time. He was the first or possibly second recorded person to have been killed by a meteorite (there may have been one in Nidia, but it was probably just a gunshot attributed to a meteorite in order to avoid arrest since guns and gun violence there is the highest in the world).

James didn't say anything, as he could no longer speak, but if he could speak he would have said something like, "gosh" or "wow" or "what the heck?" He knew he was dead, mainly from the large message being displayed in front of him on a nice friendly looking screen. He usually believed notifications that he received like that since he'd never had one before and it looked pretty official inside his soul-brain.
He wasn't sure about all the exclamation points. It seemed a bit high strung for his normal speed. He really wondered how he died though... It seemed very easy and he was a bit scared about dying again if it had been so easy with no warning the first time. The screen was a bit weird compared to the normal non-screen Earth he was used too, he wondered if they would stay or go away wherever he was going in about a minute and a half if the official looking screen were to be believed. He thought it was a bit weird they used pi for units of measurement, and not the tasty kind. He wondered what kind of food they'd have on his new world before he inevitably died with no warning the next time. He did enjoy tasty food when afforded the opportunity. Oh well, c'est la vie! Let's do it! Oh geez now the screen's got James doing the exclamation point thing too.
