Prologue - Life is Never Simple

Prologue - Life is Never Simple

In a sealed room somewhere, there was a middle-aged man in gray robes, sitting on a blue platform that looked like an altar in the center of the room. Surrounding it were four glowing white pillars inscribed with magical texts, projecting a small dome of light that seemed to isolate the area from the outside.

"I need to make sure nothing will go wrong during the procedure."

On the altar, there was a small stand with a floating blue crystal on it, big enough to fit in one's hand, with his eyes were fixed on it, periodically he would check on small fluctuations, as if there was a great amount of gas or liquid churning inside, he would close his eyes and put his hands on it, they would glow a faint red as if they were burning while he interacted with it.

"Excellent." he grinned, "The water crystal is in great shape, as usual, the elemental barrier is working properly, the room is sealed, the time has come for me to find balance."

Once again, the man held the crystal in his hands, but this time, there was no red glow, but a suction force seemed to come from his own body, liquifying the crystal and slowly absorbing it, his hands and arms were coated in a deep blue, and it kept spreading through his body.

"The absorption process is a bit tough, I have to suppress my fire energy during all of it, but this is far easier than what is to come." he appeared calm even though he had drops of sweat on his still normal forehead.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

A few minutes later, the man was completely blue from his head to his feet, so he came to a full stop and adjusted himself into a crossed legs position.

"Here it goes, meditation."

As the man entered a deep trance, one of the pillars started to glow a purple-ish color, and the texts around it started crawling around, with energy from the barrier accumulating at the top, forming a finger-sized purple projectile, floating, it seemed to adjust itself in the direction of the man.

A deep voice sounded in the room: "Hahahahaha... trying to steal from me, are you? Even with this little, I can still kill you!"

The light bullet went forth with great speed, straight to the man's head, but he wasn't able to notice since his entire person was focused on the task at hand. The light bullet hit his head, the man suddenly opened his eyes and screamed in shock, but he quickly fainted on the spot, still covered in blue.

"Tch, still alive, hm? But no matter, there are fates worse than death."

As the voice vanished, the pillars returned to normal, and everything calmed down, while the man remained unmoving on the ground.
