Chapter 1: Steve’s First Ordinary Day

“RISE AND SHINE MOTHERFUCKER!”

“uggggh.”

“I SAID, RISE AND SHINE, MOTHERFUCKER!”

Steve turned over on his bed and reached to turn off his alarm. However he was still quite groggy from just waking up and knocked the alarm clock of his bedside table causing it to fall.

“MOTHERFU-“

The alarm clock land upside down, the impact turning it off.

“*sigh*, why do I even have this Jamuel S. Lackson alarm clock. Who even is that?”

Steven picked up his alarm and placed it back on his table.

“*sigh*, I guess I better get ready for school.”

Steve did the usual routine, brush his teeth, shower, get changed into his uniform, have breakfast and brush his teeth.

“I’m going now!”

“Have great day at school Steve!” both of Steve’s parents said in unison.

Steve lived 15mins away from his school via walking. On the way there, a bakery stood among other things.

Steve arrived at the entrance gates to his school. He stood under a cherry blossom that had been planted next to the gates and checked his uniform was in order. His uniform consisted of black trousers, a white shirt which of course Steve had tucked in, a blue pin striped tie and a blue blazer. Belts were optional but naturally Steve wore one.

“Okay, all is in order. I hope today will be uneventful and peaceful.”

Steve walked through the gates onward to his tutor classroom. He passed numerous students on his way there. Even though they all wore the same uniform (girls included), the students had somehow managed to invent different styles and ways of wearing it.  For example you have some guys with rolled up blazer sleeves, loose ties with unbuttoned shirts (only the top two buttons) and baggy trousers. Then there were some girls with their trouser legs rolled up above their ankles, blazer tied around the waist and shirt untucked. Again these were only examples.

While Steve understood the desire to have an individual identity among a student body with the same androgynous clothing, he did not care much about it. Steve was a standard guy, who preferred the standard look.

Arriving at his tutor Steve scanned the room with his eyes. The only other person in here was a lone girl in the seat furtherst back next to the window. Steve gave a sigh of relief, his favourite seat in any classroom was still available. Steve sat down only having to walk a very short distance. Yes, his favourite seat was the one that was front row closet to the door. Why was this his favourite seat? Simple, it required the least amount of walking to sit in and to leave. Its not that Steve is lazy or seeks to use minimal effort. It’s just that when a regular guy has to make a decisions, he will choose the simplest option. What simpler way is there to decide where to sit?

Now being sat in his desired seat, Steve checked his watch.

“Hmmm 8:37, I still have 8 minutes, I may as well read some more.”

Steve took out from his satchel bag a book titled “How to be a good investment banker if your name starts with S and ends in teve”. Steve wants to become an investment banker. Thus when Steve saw a book titled as such, he just had to buy it. Not only did the book tell him how to be what he wanted to be, but he felt a deeper connection to the book. Almost as if it was made just for him. But Steve doesn’t believe that, he knows it would be silly to assume that a book was published solely for his benefit.

“*sigh* This world is full of coincidences.”

While Steve was reading “How to be a good investment banker if your name starts with S and ends in teve” his tutor room started filling up. The students sitting down, some talking and some remaining silent. The tutor then came in announcing himself. He seems pretty standard Steve thought putting his book away. After listening to all the admin, his tutor group was dismissed and off to lessons they went.

“Ahhh today was uneventful, just how I like it.”

It was 16:00 so Steve’s school was finished for the day. He was walking home when he stopped outside the bakery and looked at the display.

“Wow these look really good. But mother’s making dinner, so I best not.”

As Steve was about to pass the door, a cute girl, presumably in her late teens ran out of the bakery and kept running down the road while crying. Then a dangerous looking man with red hair, an apron and a displeased look ran out after her. He seemed to be shouting something but Steve could not make out what he was saying, because the man’s mouth was filled with bakery products. The man disappeared down the road following the girl. Steve looked back in the bakery to see a lone guy wearing the same uniform as him standing there with a dull look on his face.

“Well if it’s only this much, I suppose I can handle it,” Steve thought to himself as he carried on home.

Steve had dinner with his family like any normal one would do. Did his homework, read his book “How to be a good investment banker if your name starts with S and ends in teve”, after which he went to bed.

“WAKEY WAKEY MOTHERFUCKER!”

Steve’s hand rocketed out from his covers and slammed the top of the alarm.

“Wait wasn’t it rise and shine motherfucker? Ah doesn’t matter.”

Steve got out of bed, did the usual routine.

“I’m going now!”

“Have a great day at school Steve!” both of Steve’s parents said in unison.

As Steve passed the bakery on his way to school, he remembered the events of yesterday. He looked into the store and saw only the man with red hair. Steve would have asked about the girl from yesterday but he didn’t want to get involved in anything weird, so he just went straight to school.

The bell that rang today, not only signalled the start of break, but the end of Steve’s straightforward life.
