The Not-Crystal Gems

Earth, such a beautiful world, even though it has needed to tank the hefty blows humanity dealt it with their factories and whatnot, even those same humans are working to restore its beauty once more, and prolong the Earths existence. However, we now turn to a lovely temple in Coast Cove, the Beach City of this alternate tale, where the temple represents two ladies, a voluptuous pale golden gem named Cassiterite, and the other half representing a gem with closed eyes, hands together, and a monocle over one eye, named Cats Eye Chrysoberyl.

These two gems lead a small but growing rebellion that, while it hasnt had any real skirmishes with homeworld, it is becoming common knowledge as gems who have gone rogue, and will soon be dealt with, but not a full war...yet. They did however take down an army of gems grown from the kindergarten on Earth that was invading Coast Cove from a Hand Dropship, and poofed most, but shattered the rest, including the Jasper General in charge of the armed forces, and the prisoners are bubbled in the deepest recesses of the temple, but only a floor above them lies the poofed and cracked remains of most of their army, with all 296 of them laying dormant.

Coast Cove is a more dark and rocky place, with ash grey sand, and yet, its not the gloomiest place in the world, as if it were an artistic monochrome. The layout is otherwise the same as Beach City, with minor touches and changes here and there. Our story pans to the Coast Cove temple, two gems warping back into the rocky temple. One was a sort of pale gold gem with hints and splotches of black around her entire body, but not quite like a bumblebee gem. She was voluptuous and generally desirable in a humans eyes, with a big flowing ponytail and an outfit that resembled knights armor, with one pauldron on her left shoulder. She stood at 6'3 with slight muscle in her body, and has her gem on her chest, and wields a decorative double sided halberd into battle.

The other gem was a toned but slim, grey gem with whisker-like markings on her cheeks, eyes that resemble asian descent, and a scouter on her right eye, clearly an invention of hers. Her outfit was midriff bearing, but breathtaking with a frilly design for both the chest piece and her long skirt. She stood at 5'9 in height and has her gem on her back.

"Cassie..." began the grey gem, "We arent getting anywhere with this spastic energy reading, its been five months since we started our search and its off the grid at one point, perfect the next, and glitching all over another time! Its frustating!" she said with worry and irritation in her voice. "Oh come now my sweet Chryssy..." began the taller gem, "Dont feel bad...we have been finding some more data for your little research have we not~?" she said sweetly, yet...almost creepily. "Yes, I suppose I do have some more data regarding this...energy..." responded Cats Eye Chrysoberyl. Cassiterite (the tall gem) is known for her creepy and unorthodox personality, taking too much joy in killing an opponent and needing to be restrained verbally by Cats Eye Chrysoberyl (the shorter one) at times. Despite this, Cassiterite is a powerful gem, one of the best even, but her creepy and (at times), seductive personality are only flavor, spice if you will, to her commanding and stalwart personality locked within her, but this is a story for another time.

Cats Eye Chrysoberyl is a gem that dabbles in all sorts of science, and is essentially the brains of the group, but knows how to wield her katana very well. However, due to her supportive role in the group, she isnt quite at her full potential in battle as of yet, and has been trumped by their other two companions in combat before. She is a bit clumsy at times, but her personality shines through as a nerdy, kind, and humble gem who absolutely admires Cassiterite, and cares about her very much, willing to die ten times over if it means saving both her and the rebellion.

As the two gems walked down the ramp and went to look out on the ash gray beach, they saw their other companions messing around in the sand, with one of them climbing the back of the other. The one gem said "Heyyy get off my back Sphene!" said the chubby 5'7 gem, giggling at Sphene. Sphene was an offcolor who came out heavily deformed facially, and even had a short arm. However, when she came to earth, she self poofed herself with her own kunai, which was, more specifically, the ability to spawn multiple kunai at will, meaning she could hold more then one. When she regenerated, she came out with a look heavily inspired by spiders. She was 4'10 and her current body has six arms, two legs, and short wild hair with spider eyes. She basically looked akin to...say, Muffet from Undertale, to be perfectly blunt about it. She has a personality that slightly resembles Cassiterites, but not quite, as shes far more tame and is moreso carefree and dull then she is creepy. Her Gem is on her nose, or where her nose would be anyway, and no its not where her weapon comes from, as said previously she has the power to spawn her weapon in her hands.

Orthoclase, the chubby gem, wore a somewhat chest bearing set of robes that resembled the white mage of Final Fantasy to a near perfect T, save the missing hood. Her gem was under her left breast, where a humans heart would be, and she wields a slim, spiked mace for self defense, though she has the tendency to rush in at times when shes clearly not a mainline fighter of the group. Shes actually LESS of a fighter then Chrysoberyl due to her healing abilities, because at least Chrysoberyl can fend off enemies to a good extent. Orthoclase on the other hand is a medical gem, not meant to fight at all. She has a brash personality, not quite wild like Amethysts but not as tame as Pearl either, shes just really hard working and hates being helpless, so when her friends struggle in battle, she tends to rush in with them when its highly advised she avoids combat otherwise, though she HAS had her victories here and there.

These four gems are inseperable, and even though they lost their whole army (although none of them were shattered thanks to the combined efforts of the main four in question), they are working restlessly to rebuild and help the Earth in any way they can, but for now, they are mostly just freelancing and doing menial missions, looking for any scrap of assistance they can get. If you are curious as to why Orthoclase cant just heal them all, its because that Orthoclase gems arent as skilled as Rose Quartzes when it comes to healing gems, and they can only heal a gem so much, from minor chips to maybe two or three small cracks in their gems, and as mentioned before, most of those gems were either cracked horribly, or cracked just enough to where they cant be fully healed by Orthoclase. As such, they refuse to release any of their allies in such a suffering state.

The group gathered on the beach as Sphene remained attatched to Orthoclase's back, because she felt like it. "Hey, you two, Chryssi wanted to talk to us on the beach when we got back. She apparently DID collect SOME information." explained Cassiterite. "Well I dont have an exact reading yet, but it seems like I uncovered some strange gem fragment from the wreckage of the ship we shot down with the Temple Gun all those years ago, albeit it was in the middle of the ocean but I was able to pick it up just fine." she said pointing to the temple which contained a computer room which was, of course, HER gem room. "If I can take this gem shard and examine its data, I could probably find some clue as to these strange energy readings..." explained Cats Eye Chrysoberyl in her calculated tone.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Lets decipher it and find whatevers been bugging you Kitty Cat!" said Orthoclase, bouncing excitedly, even with Sphene on her back. "I told you to not...oh fine, I cant be mad at that name." she giggled as she fixed her scouter and went to her Gem Room, pretty much ending that announcement straight up. "Soooo..." started Cassiterite, "Who wants to have a two on one match against me?" she asked her two companions. "Well, me and Sphene were going to visit town, maybe la-" she said before she was cut off by the swift summoning of Cassiterites Decorative Halberd and using said halberd to smash into the sand, sending them back, before they drew their weapons. "I know you may not be suited for front line combat, but I'm going to train you to deal with that kind of combat, now come on you two..." she said licking her lips before darting towards them, swinging at their necks as they dove under the weapon out of reflex.

Stolen novel; please report.

"Oh my stars I always forget how fast she is!" said Orthoclase as she reoriented herself. Sphene began to throw waves of kunai at Cassiterite nonstop as she either deflected or dodged every single one, football tackling Sphene far back into the sand. "You arent my closest allies for nothing you know~! I dont want you two slacking...especially when were so close to what could be a...heheh...potential enemy?" she teased as Orthoclase ran at her from behind, swinging her mace wildly, hitting her mid back, much to the unamusement of Cassiterite, who turned around slowly before roundhouse kicking her in the head, sending her into the water.

"Come on, as fun as I try to be, I take our training very seriously. If you two dont wanna shape up then I guess I can just devour you right now~~" she said giggling creepily. Sphene got up slowly and so did Orthoclase. They were determined to knock her down now, and ran at her from both directions. Kunai coming from Sphene and a mace swinging wildly from Orthoclase. Cassiterite smirked as she crossed her arms, and then, struck them outwards like palm strikes, sending a large burst of force around her, knocking the two into nearby rocks, nearly poofing them in the process. "See? That wasnt so hard now was it? I mean, your not strong enough to strike ME yet, but im proud of you two for actually putting in effort, but dont celebrate too hard now...we still have many more training sessions ahead of us..." she said as she jumped up the steps of the Gem Temple and went to her gem room.

Sphene crawled over to Orthoclase and hugged her. "Man...Cassie is too much some times...but thats why we like her right?" said Sphene, a little uneasy. "Look Sphene, I know you can never quite get used to her personality, but shes a good Gem, and she's there for us, just don't think too harsh of her..." said Orthoclase reassuringly as she embraced her friend. "I know but..." she sighed "Yeah, im sorry, I just...remember being beaten for a good while by my fellow kindergarteners before getting reported is all...I don't like being beaten in a one sided conflict, but if its Cassie, then I guess its fine because...well, shes not TRYING to be mean." she reasoned with herself mainly.

Meanwhile, in Cat Eye Chrysoberyls gem room, which was a large laboratory with containment tanks, computers, wires in the floor, and other tools and widgets for identifying both Earthly and otherworldly issues, and performing experiments as needed. This room is the operating room for the Great Cannon as well, and serves as a secondary hub for the group, and a locator for their mission objectives, such as rogue gems for example. Chrysoberyl was examining a gem shard. This gem shard displayed different colors when viewed at different angles, and was unlike anything that even a gem as old as Cassiterite has seen before. It was highly unstable, and yet, it may just be the very key the Gem Crusaders need to track down the beast, ship, etc, they were chasing for five months now.

"Tch...I wont let you go to waste...I HAVE to pinpoint the location now, because if this gem shard cant locate this reading without fail, then I'm going to poof my self!" she said with a frustrated huff. As calm as she can be, this project was frustrating. This reading that the rebels were tracking has the tendency to jump all over the map, which is clearly a form of disruption in on its self, a sign that it cant be traced normally. Chrysoberyl placed the gem on her table scanner and linked that with the constantly moving blip, which began to move MUCH less sparratically, and soon locked down in one location, a stone spire built a long time ago when Homeworld first colonized the Earth. She gasped and laughed in glee at this result. Finally, the gems could track down whatever this blip was! It was beautiful in every way possible! She ran out of her gem room and called the rest of the gang to look at the readings.

"Well well well, finally we get to hunt down this thing properly. I cant WAIT to get this thing out of our hair~!" she said giggling. "Now Cassie, remember that not everything is going to involve killing, I know that its in your nature and that you enjoy it way too much, but you have to co-" she was cut off by Cassiterite who said "Control my self I know I know...relax Kitty Cat, I know better then anyone how to have self control. Trust me~." she said ruffling the hair of Cats Eye Chrysoberyl, who got puffy cheeked and had a disgruntled expression on her face.

"R-right...well its located at this spire, and I believe it was built during the first era...so it SHOULD have a warp pad, just let me connect our pad to that one and we should be set to go." she explained to the group. "Well, at least we have something to do now." said Sphene, sitting on Orthoclase's back. "Yeah but, your not gonna sit on my back all day are you?" she asked Sphene with a soft smile. Sphene slid off of her back and stood up "Okay okay, I wont do it too much. But still, im glad we can do something for once, missions dont come by that often." she replied. Cassiterate smiled at the two gems as she looked towards Cats Eye Chrysoberyl. "You know, they may not look it, but I think they are just as dedicated as us."

"But Cassie, they may have been survivors of that great battle, but they arent as refined as we are, they seem so...casual, like they went 'Eh, alright, sounds cool, il join your rebellion', but I wont doubt them, I believe what you said about them as well." she said optimistically in reply to Cassiterite. "So, wait by the warp pad for about 5 minutes, and I can create the new link." she said sitting down and opening her programming screen as she began to type both coordinates into the two warp pads.

Cassiterite and the other gems walked out of Chrysoberyls gem room and sat down on the couch in the main room. The main room wasnt quite as...human, as say, Stevens house, but it had some minor setups such as a TV and a Couch, mainly due to the interest that Sphene and Orthoclase had in such things. Otherwise, it was VERY spacious with not much in it with the exception of the aforementioned objects.

"Hey, you two sure your ready for this?" asked Cassiterite, hugging them both beside her. "Because unlike our other missions with the occasional beast and goon, this thing is probably something much, much, MUCH worse, and I don't want you two to get yourselves killed..." she said taking on her rare serious tone. "Cassie, you have been training us for the past 50 years that we've been here since the battle of Coast Cove. I think 50 years of training does good-" but Orthoclase was cut off by Cassiterite saying "Not when ive been giving you my easiest lessons! It takes centuries for even a quartz soldier to become remotely masterful in combat! Sure, you may be powerful day one, but your NOTHING compared to even the common ruby who has their own centuries of experience! And keep in mind im comparing your power to other gems on such a scale, which is what we HAVE to compare you too with this rebellion! So I hope I can trust you to stay close to me and Cats Eye Chrysoberyl, and dont deviate much further then that, understood? You two are literally the only friends we have left." she said, a brief moment of silence following her words.

"You can, we do want to get stronger, so we will do as you say and stay close" said Sphene. "Y-yeah! Me too! I wanna help out as much as possible, and even if we need your guidance now, we will do our best to improve, we promise!" she said raising a fist in front of her. Cassiterite chuckled, "Oh how I love you two to bits...alright, lets just relax a bit before we go." she said, slouching down further on the couch. "You dont get this much relaxation on Homeworld, go figure..." she said to herself.

As the three gems sat with eachother, the warp pad hummed as a new link was established. SUCCESS! Cats Eye Chrysoberyl exited her gem room and said "Guys, the teleporter is alive and well! Lets get a move on!" she said standing on the warp pad as her companions joined her shortly afterwords.

"Next stop, the stone spire!" Cassiterite said as they were all warped on their way to their first true mission...the Secret of the Spire...
