“And what was their reaction?” The tall blonde woman asked, the back of her chair facing the doctor.
Yvea gulped slightly. “They… Didn’t seem to mind.” She reported slowly. “They said that they didn’t feel any different, or notice anything abnormal. They seemed more… Emotionally unstable, but I think that may be due to the fact they are coming to the realisation they may be trans, or at least non-binary.”
Lori nodded slowly, turning her chair around to face the doctor. “Good. Have we had any error reports from any other systems?”
“No ma’am.” Yvea replied, gulping as the woman’s sharp silver eyes landed on her. She was intimidating, brooking no dissent from her workers when she set her mind on a goal. “There was a minor glitch in the interface system near the start of the program when Myles went under, but it cleared itself up. We suspect it was an interfacing issue with the game system and hardware.”
“No data leaks?” The executive asked, narrowing her gaze on the doctor.
Yvea shook her head, feeling like she wanted to hide behind her clipboard from the intense gaze. “No, ma’am. We ensured that the connection was still secure. As far as anyone can tell, it’s just a normal coffin.”
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
“Good.” Lori stopped as a knock came to her door. “Enter.”
Steve Gavin stepped into the room, holding a file folder. There was a small ziplock with a datadrive inside it attached, as well as the words ‘Personnel File, Myles Vester’ across the front.
“I have cleared the data from the HR servers, and discretely removed the physical backup from the files.” The HR representative said plainly, moving and setting them on Lori’s large desk. “There is no record of your nephew’s employment left beyond these.”
“Good. Thank you, Mr. Gavin. You may go.”
He bowed his head and stepped out of the office, leaving Yvea alone with Lori again.
“Well,” Lori started, picking up the file folder and the attached datadrive. “If there are no further technical issues, we will proceed into phase two. Start prepping the other stimulants and enhancements, and begin the process in three days. Have the fabricator teams start working on the additional structure elements.”
“Yes ma’am.” Yvea replied, nodding as she got up. She could tell when the stern woman wanted to be left alone. She paused at the door a moment as she was leaving. She wanted to ask how Lori was okay with using her nephew for this project. There were so many potential risk factors, even if they only went with the baseline modifications she suspected they would be able to accept easily. They were going much further than that however.
But she also knew better than to ask too many questions. And as she closed the door behind her, she heard the distinct sounds of the shredder starting up as it destroyed the only records of Myles Vester ever arriving at Fidaela Softworks.
