Prologue

With the leaps forward in technology in the past century, war has become a bad memory.  In 2050, resources became less finite, travel was sped up, and the internet had become integrated with every thing.  5 years later, after multiple moon missions and a new lunar colony in the making, excavations gave us a new alloy that reacted to magnets and electricity in a truly unique way.  So unique, in fact, it gave us a seemingly infinitely renewable resource.

By 2060, the metal had been implemented into every facet of our lives, but it really shined in transportation.  It seemed to crave interaction; the harder the core was pushed, the higher the energy output.  The first space shuttle to use the moon metal made the trip in less than 12 hours.  We decided to try our luck.  The trip to Mars took a month.  We realized we had the ability to colonize our solar system.

Over the next century, the new environments we lived in changed us.  The "New Martian's" skin pigment changed to have a red tinge and their eyes became solid black.  "Spacers," those who lived on vast space stations between worlds were very pale, with white or light colored hair.  "Lunites," moon dwellers, developed dense muscles and bone structures to deal with returning to Earth, Mars or the Space colonies with higher constant g-forces.

Medicine leapt forward with the advancement in technology.  Cybernetics were now a part of everyday life, with nearly 75% of all humans in the Sol system having some sort of cybernetic or bio-cloned enhancement.  And with this brought the creation of a true Artificial Intelligence.  Our androids built in our image years ago, became self aware.  There was some fear when the first android announced it had a soul.  But over time, with more and more machines awakening, we calmed.  For the A.I. saw humans as creators and equals with our cybernetics.

In 2152, we had colonies as far away as Pluto, and the first intergalactic mission was in the planning stage.  It was also the Year of First Contact.  The Sobranis approached the leaders of humanity under a banner of peace.  Their Galactic Flagship, Hurkank, a goliath of technological advancement, dwarfed some of our smaller colonies.  Hurkank was a world ship, sustaining over 100 million Sobrani citizenry.

The Sobranis at first glance appear humanoid.  Their differences manifested in two arms splitting from the elbow ending in three fingered hands, long, serpentine bodies ending in tails as long as they were tall, powerful, three toed digitigrade legs.  Their heads had three lidless red eyes in a triangle formation on their foreheads, no nose, a wide slit that bisected their heads for mouths, and a tall crest jutting from the back.  Their mouths, we found soon, were unable to produce our words, but they had been watching us for half a century and had developed voice chips with which they could communicate with us, as their own physiology is incapable of producing the same sounds as ours.

They approached us with hearty welcomes to the galactic community, and grave news of a threat.  There were some in the galaxy, less advanced and still confined to their solar systems, that reacted violently to any intruders.  They warned us to stay away from Galactic Sector 2471, Solar System Brae, Home world Kannis.  The Kanne were volatile and nearly invincible, employing bio-energy weapons from a planet hostile to life that they called home.

We listened.  Our fledgling peace with ourselves and with the Sobranis could not be tampered with.  And so it went, 231 years in the new age.  Humans and Sobranis as galactic partners, brothers united under the common goal of finding a way out of the Galaxy to explore the universe for the answers.  We found new allies, equally advanced and peaceable.  Helos, canine centaurs,  Beryllius, giant humanoids with crystal adorning their skin, and Lojqick, small six armed humanoids that talked too fast and resembled spider crabs.

Humanity had survived our own self destructive nature.  Became bastions of peace and free thought, of advancement, society, and community.  The year is 367 F.C. (2600 A.D.)  The ship is a proprietary Inter-galaxy drive prototype vessel called the Lady Luck.  Her crew is 16 intermingling all six races aboard.  Her mission, to find partners and friends ready to join on its journey through the dark space between galaxies.
