Leo watched the door Sky and his father went into warily, not touching the breakfast he prepared for himself while Sky was getting dressed. He listened for any sign of violence but Sky walked out of the room unscathed in less than five minutes.
Well... physically unscathed, Sky’s eyes were downcast, his lips pursed in thought, and he walked right past Leo to the kitchen to pour himself another mug of coffee. He sat the mug down gently on the coffee table next to Leo’s food and collapsed heavily onto the couch, his hip pressed against Leo’s. For a moment he leaned towards Leo like he was going to rest his head on his shoulder, then he suddenly straightened up. He pulled off his wire framed glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’m sorry about....” he sighed and shook his head, tousling his carefully combed black hair. “Anyways, I’m sure you want to know more about,” Sky waved his around vaguely, “all of this.”
One question in Leo’s mind demanded answering, “last night you said that monster wanted to eat me and that it wouldn’t be long until more showed up. Am I... in danger?... Is Mom?”
Sky was halfway through picking his mug up but paused when he heard the mild anxiety in Leo’s voice. He grimaced, hand tightening around the mug handle, “yeah. You should stay here, like Luka is, at least until you can fully Awaken Leo and use your powers to defend yourself.”
Sky took a sip while Leo thought quietly for a moment. “If I stay here... what am I supposed to tell my mom? She already wants to know what happened last night and where I’ve been. Is there proof of the monsters so she doesn’t think I’ve gone crazy.”

“You can’t tell her.” Sky said as if it was the most ridiculous thing he’d ever heard. “Look, we usually help people by giving them fake job offers-”
Leo crossed his arms and scoffed, “that’s not going to fucking work. I have a sports scholarship and want to be a paramedic, she’s not going to believe I suddenly took a job managing one of your overpriced hotels.”
Sky’s mug clicked loudly as he set it back down on the glass coffee table. “You’ll have to figure something out that she’ll believe and we’ll help you-”
“‘We’?”
“The company-”
“Since when do you refer to the company as ‘we’. Don’t you want to-”
Sky abruptly stood up, “what I want has never mattered! I will take over as Celestial Prince and eventually the company itself and I can’t even-” Sky cut himself off, snapping his mouth shut and breathing heavily.
Leo already regretted the annoyance and bitterness he had let seep into his tone. “Sky, are you-”
Sky didn’t wait for Leo to finish his question, let alone answer it. Turning around, he briskly walked to his room, Leo unable to catch up before he closed the door.
Having tried and failed to follow, Leo stood pointlessly in the hallway. He cast a glare at the closed door he knew Sky’s father was behind. From the direction of the kitchen he heard a loud and obvious sip. Leo looked back to see Luka leaning against the kitchen island a mug of coffee in their hands, wearing nothing but a pair of boxers, their top surgery scars highly visible and a bit lopsided. Luka lowered the mug and said over the rim in a deadpan voice, “well, that was dramatic.”
