Prologue

Перевод на английский:

I woke up in my bed, and as soon as I got up, I slipped on my sock and hit the back of my head on the nightstand. "F*ck, unbelievable, just look at my luck today." Groaning, I got up and touched the spot where I hit my head—there was something warm and wet. My strength began to fade, and I fell again, but this time I didn’t get up.

Call me Sasha, and, damn it, my whole life has been nothing but bad luck and misery. My parents drank and smoked; then they died, leaving me with their debts. Something always happened to me—falling down stairs, forgetting to turn off the stove, losing money out of nowhere. It felt like some kind of cursed magic, no other way to put it.

But this time, I didn’t get up and let the darkness take over. I was tired and just wanted to rest from all my troubles and problems. My roommate called an ambulance while I was dying. After that, everything turned dark, and I was left alone.

It was strange—I was lying there, feeling no pain, and there was no need to rush. Blissful, finally some peaceful rest without bad luck. But it seemed even here, bad luck dragged me back from the grave. Suddenly, I was yanked and found myself in a dark space, but this time there was a table and a guy standing and staring at me.

"Welcome. You’ve been fortunate enough to become part of a project for an interdimensional charity fund," he said, pausing to think. "Given that your life was full of misfortune, we’ve decided to give you a second chance and even improve some of your attributes."

"Alright, as long as bad luck isn’t involved, I agree," I said, wanting to skip the dialogue quickly.

The guy clapped his hands, and everything in front of me disappeared.

Opening my eyes, I found myself lying on a white limestone or stone floor. Before I could even say, "What the…" or something equally cliché, a holographic text appeared before my eyes.

Wow. That’s a lot of different stats and bonuses at the start. Shouldn't there be some gradual development and all that? But with my luck, I’d better keep my mouth shut. Hopefully, luck won’t be a factor in this world. And as if in response to my thoughts, two new lines appeared on the hologram.

+Intelligence

+Luck

Great! Now I can actually enjoy a new life in a new world. Although the intelligence boost feels a bit unnecessary, but whatever, as long as I’ve got luck.

I sat up and looked around. A small, round hut, practically empty except for a pouch on the table. Standing up and taking a deep breath, I realized my body was taller and more muscular than in my previous life, and my lungs felt larger and more powerful.

Picking up the pouch, I found it was filled with money—apparently the local currency. Nice, I won’t have to feel like a pauper or a bum in this new world.

Standing still for about two minutes, I decided to pinch myself. What if it’s all just a dream while I’m in a coma? But the pain was real, convincing me that this was reality. I was wearing an old cloak and a white shirt tied with a belt. At least I wouldn’t need to search for local clothing. I headed for the exit, which turned out to be a sloping tunnel. As I got closer to the end of the tunnel, my ears caught the sound of strong winds howling.

Stepping outside, I saw endless desert dunes moving as if they were alive.

"Well, f*ck me!" I shouted with all the strength I had. "Why the hell would you leave someone with superpowers in some godforsaken world with no sign of civilization?!"

As if someone heard my curses, a hologram appeared before my eyes. The text read: "Walk straight without deviating until you reach a settlement."

Damn, maybe I should try talking to whoever’s sending me these messages?

"Hey, can I call you Hraz?" I said, the first thing that popped into my head, smirking. Damn, I’m already talking to myself. But my smile vanished when a response came from the robot—or whatever was in my head.

"Yes, you can call me that. And to calm you, the journey will be about 30 kilometers. Don’t worry; your body has been enhanced with prototypes of various organs and other improvements. You will face fire, ice, and trials, but don’t worry, you’ll survive. The chance of you dying here is minimal. Now, let’s get moving, Sasha."

F*cking hell, 30 kilometers through a desert in this heat. And this isn’t even my insanity.

"Hey, Hraz, one last question?" Questions kept swirling in my head, but I didn’t want to ask them all at once.

"Of course, go ahead. And to answer you in advance, we’re on the planet Tatooine."

"Alright, let’s go," I said, pulling the hood of my cloak over my head and starting my journey through the loose, scorching sand…
