Chapter 2

Enjoy!

Chapter 2

Mesmerized by my reflection, I let out a small laugh. Although I had a cute face I looked really funny with my buzz cut like hairstyle. After a few more seconds of myself, I crawled into the water and began to wash myself. Wow! To my surprise the goo came off pretty easily, with only a few light rubs. A few minutes passed and I have completely cleaned myself up. Despite cleaning off all the goo, I still didn’t feel too comfortable with the black splotches on my torso, unlike my charming hands and feet. I felt awkward looking like an ink splattered canvas ‘board’; I-I’m still a child so it’s fine to call myself that!

*hmph*

Turning around while pushing those awful thoughts out of my mind, I find that some of the goo on my blanket washed away as it bathed in the water. Waving the blanket a couple of times in the water was enough to get rid of the rest of the goo.  Once I deemed my blanket was clean, I decided to practice standing and walking. Slowly pushing myself to a stand I tried my best not to fall. However, when I stood up straight, I wobbled and

*splash*

I fell into the water. Pushing myself out of the water

*Gahh*

I took a deep breath. Determined to succeed I practiced it over and over again. After tens of tries I finally did it, I stood up by myself. I was shocked at how quickly I was able to learn to stand, especially with this newborn body of mine. Maybe I have some OP abilities or I have inhumane strength?? So I sat back down and I punched the ground expecting a mini ripple or explosion. But

nothing happened.

*sigh*

Time to get back to reality. Getting back up once again I tottered around in the water for like thirty minutes before I was able to walk decently. Feeling proud of my accomplishments I dragged my blanket and myself out of the water.

Awwwwww. Stepping out of the water and onto the beach, the sand started to adhere to the bottom of my feet and get stuck between my toes after a few steps.

*sighhh*

Fearing the worst, I lift my blanket up and I see clumps of sand adhering to it. However I felt hopeful as some of the clumps fell off just from lifting it up, so I give it a couple of fierce shakes.

*Ha!*

My eyes turned round in awe as the sand falls off, leaving a nice single shade of grey. What surprised me wasn’t just the ease of cleaning it, but the way it felt compared to the way it looked. Although it looked plain and simple, my blanket felt like the silkiest, fluffiest, and softest piece of cloth ever. I’m going to use this blanket for the rest of my life.

Aaaa, my parents must be rich…

Oh wells, I can’t do anything about it now. It would’ve been nice to grow up rich and carefree though.

*imagines a castle, maids,etc*

*hua*

Now lets’ get back to what I was doing. Hmmm, I wasn’t doing anything though. I should figure of what I should do from now on. Now about this blanket, I don’t want to carry it around in my hands…

I guess I’ll tie it to my neck like a cape.

*ties it around neck*

With it tied around my neck, I felt quite pleasant as it brushed against my back. I then turned around to find that at least two-third of it was still on the ground. Realizing it was pointless to try to keep it clean, I decided to continue onwards.

Couple of minutes later.

*Khoff khoff*

Uugh, I can’t keep this up anymore. The weight of my blanket pulling against my throat is too much. I’ll suffocate to death at this rate, but what can I do?? Ah, I know. I can wrap it around me like a towel. Grabbing one end of it I start wrapping it around my chest. Wait, I have to get the sand off first.

*shakes blanket*

 Okay, now.

One…

Two…

Three…

Done.

Well, at least it’s better than my cape idea. Even if it looks like a wedding dress with an excessively long hem, I think it is quite nice on me. Taking my first step

*pufwa*

I fell, again.

*fu*

Mr.Sand, thank you for saving me again. Getting back up, I part the blanket at my feet, creating an opening for me to walk. Arriving near the end of the beach, where it meets the forest, I realize I still didn’t have a plan yet. So I walked back to the middle of the beach and decided to start my planning there. Lets’ first outline what my goals are first.

*draws a chart*

C             F             B

Okay C will stand for current, F will stand for future, and B will stand for both. Lets’ see, what I need now is food, shelter, uhhh is there anything else I could do now?? Hmmm, looks like there’s nothing else so far. For the future, I would like to travel, get strong enough to travel, get rich maybe?, and uuummmm I’m not sure what else I want. So moving on to both, I want to enjoy myself and that’s about it. With this the chart is complete.

C (Current)          F (Future)             B (Both)

Food                     travel                    enjoy

Shelter                 strong

                              Rich?

No matter how you look at it, the most important thing on my list is to get food. And from the looks of it, the forest is going to be the place with the food.

*sigh*

I would try to catch fish, but I can’t swim. Well, I can swim, but I don’t know how to breathe while swimming. Leaving me no other choice than to hold my breath and it doesn’t look like one can catch fish like that. Besides I never liked fish anyways, with all those sharp, tiny bones that you can choke on. Meaning this forest is my only choice. I just hope I can do something; I have never hunted before with grocery stores, supermarkets, and other convenient establishments around.

Judging from the size of these trees, the fact that it expands along with this beach and the fact that all I can see is trees. This is probably a forest filled with magical beasts or monsters or some other form of dangerous animals that I can’t deal with. Facing the forest, I try to settle down my nerves before going in. However that was a failure, I’m still shaking slightly due to this massive, unknown forest. But I take a step anyways towards the forest. Reaching the edge of the forest I find that it is filled with bushes that were taller than me.

Staring at these bushes, I closed my eyes, grabbed the end of my blanket and tied it around my eyes like a blindfold. What am I doing you may ask? I’m covering my eyes so I don’t get stabbed by a twig or a branch of the bush. Once the blindfold was on, I walked forward with my hands in front of me pushing away the branches making a way for myself. A few seconds into the bush, I feel my hands hitting a fleshy round object. Huh, i-is th-that a b-bug? Giving into panic I rush forward with all my might, only to be pulled back and almost falling over. Getting back my balance I try to move forward once again, only to be pulled back again. Ah, my blanket must be stuck. Wanting to leave behind whatever I touched as soon as possible, I pull down my blindfold, turn around, and find my blanket caught on a branch. I quickly released my blanket from the branch and took a few steps away from the bush. At about 1 meter always, I readied myself to defend myself from the bug that might come out. With my eyes stuck on the bush for a few minutes, nothing came out.

*phew*

It looks like whatever it was it’s gone. Turning back around to continue onwards, I find myself surrounded by bushes.

Waaaaaa, look at all these fruits and flowers growing on these bushes. There are blue red strawberry shaped ones without the seeds, tiny round pink berries, fuzzy white berries, and many other colorful berries. The flowers are also just as colorful, with magenta lilies, honeydew orchids, crimson roses, aqua blue chrysanthemum as well as plenty of other flowers that I did not recognize.  It seems like my first goal of getting food maybe solved, right?? I can just live on fruits right???

But I should try to find something else, just in case. Also exploring this forest might be a good thing, I could learn how dangerous this forest is at the same time. Alright, lets’ charge onwards! Moving deeper into the forest, the bushes started to become scarce and only giant trees could be seen. Mighty Oak trees, full Maple trees, and others soon littered the forest. Taking a stroll through this forest was simply wonderful. Looking at the lush green trees, breathing in the earthy scent, feeling the cool humid air with the bright speckles of light shining through the trees was a one of a kind experience that I could’ve never experienced in my previous life.

*Grrrawr*

Stuck in a daze as I was fascinated with the beauty of nature, I didn’t notice the clearing I almost walked into.

In the middle of this clearing laid a large two meter long 4-legged beast cladded in silvery fur that seemed like armor. It tail was half the size of its body reaching a length of a meter. With yellow eyes, a black slit iris and black claws reaching at least 3-inches in length. It gave off a powerful savage aura as it glared at me. Taking a few peeks at its eyes, my heart gave a jump. I wasn’t really afraid of dying, but I was afraid of surviving. If I lived, I would probably be crippled and have to suffer through immense amounts of pain. Seeing that it did not move, I turned around and made a run for it.

Dashing through the forest in the direction I came, I ran without looking back. Running and falling for about 15 to 20 minutes, taking a break every minute to catch my breath as I walked. I finally made it back to the bushy area with a few bruises here and there. S-so don’t make fun of me okay, I am a newborn baby. Being able to run already is a great accomplishment yanno?!

Catching my breath, I thought about that beast. Why did it not chase me??  It seemed pretty strong. Maybe I’m lucky or it was injured?? Well whatever the reason, I am now safe. I think. So are all the beasts in this forest like that? If so I can’t leave then… and I’ll only have fruits to eat. It’s not like I dislike fruits, it’s just strange for a person who has lived in a world filled with many choices. When my heartbeat settled down, I got up, untied the blanket from around my neck and began to collect the fruits with it. Gathering what seem to be around thirty different kinds of fruits, I tied them up, blindfolded myself, and walked back to the beach. Now why did I gather so many kinds, well I’m going to try each one and see which are safe to eat and which are not. I’m crazy you say, well I have no choice. And it’s not like I’m going to just stuff it down my throat, I going to take a small bite out of each and see if they are edible. The worst case is that I die or get poisoned. I have already died so it’s not a big deal, However if I get poisoned, I’ll just eat the rest to ending my suffering, if I can.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Although I would prefer to live a joyful life, I have already thought about death many times in my previous life. But in that case I was held back by my responsibilities to my parents. In this life I have none so I can die without worry. Taking a seat on the middle of the beach, I place the fruits down in front of me with part of the blanket and the taste test begins!

From all the fruits I collected I chose the very first fruit I saw, the blue red strawberry shaped one. Biting the tip of the fruit, I gave it a few chews, sampling the flavor of bitterness mixed sourness, before swallowing. Right after I swallowed it, I noticed my tongue felt like it has just been burnt, feeling numb to the point where I couldn’t even feel the roof of my mouth. This aftertaste or lack of, gave me a bad feeling. While I waited for the effects, my body slowly became numb as well; I started to lose my sense of touch. Then I felt hundreds of needles pricking my skin even though nothing was happening.

*pufwa*

Losing control over my body I fell backwards into the sand. Nnnnnngggghhh, I tried to get up but I couldn’t move at all.

*sigh*

looks like this fruit has a paralyzing effect. Being paralyzed, I stayed down, closing my eyes, waiting for the effects to wear off.

Please don’t tell me this is going to be permanent; I don’t want to die of starvation. Aaaahhh what should I do?? Nnnnnggghhh, nope still can’t move. Honestly, all I took was just one bite!

*sighs*

Seems like all I can do is wait it out. After what seemed like an eternity, I tried again. Nnngghh, ah, I did it, my fingers moved a bit. Kay, lets’ wait a bit longer. After a few more minutes I gradually regained my ability to move. I was expecting a lot longer for the effects to wear off, but it wore off quickly once I gained the ability to move my fingers again. Sitting back up, I grabbed the berry and placed it to my left.

Next, I should try the tiny round pink berries about the size of a marble. This time, I learned my lesson and just took a little nibble. This one gave off a lightly sweet flavor which stayed on my tongue for a few seconds before going away completely. Waiting for something to happen, nothing did. So this will go to the good pile. Picking up the pink round marble, I placed it to my right.

Grabbing the fuzzy white fruit, I took it up to my eye and examined the fuzz. Looking closely, I find that the fruit was covered in tiny little hairs. Hmm, these hairs probably aren’t dangerous; I mean these hairs feel the kiwis from my past life. And if they were dangerous, my fingers would probably be pricked by them. Also taking a nibble of this fruit a funny taste spread through my mouth. It was sweet and full of flavor like a lychee, yet at the end of it there was a dry bitter taste in mouth. Like moisture was being sucked out. Again i waiting, but this time I didn’t have to wait too long, because within a minute the effects started to show. My mind grew hazy, my body heated up, I began to gasp for air, and pain started to appe…

*pufwa*

The girl has fallen down, laying there on the beach without a sign of life.

*Uwahh*

I open my eyes, to find myself looking at the sky.

*Aarrgghh*

m-my head… ah, that fruit was probably quite dangerous, but at least the ordeal pasted by without me experiencing pain. Death would have been acceptable as well, but whatever. Sitting myself back up; I noticed that the fruit had fallen to my right side. Aaaaa, how dare you sneak into the good pile! Want to poison me again? Well not this time, I pick it up and throw it away, landing 6 feet away. Tsk, you’re lucky I am weak, otherwise you would’ve been a goner. Now, looking back at myself, I find that nothing happened to my body. Though I still had the black stuff, I can consider that normal. I even felt pretty good and healthy. Seeing no visible damage done to my body, I selected my next fruit.

A lime green bean shaped fruit no bigger than a centimeter; at least I think it’s a fruit, with light green veins running almost vertically around the bean. I took a bite out of it because it was too small to nibble. The bean felt like slush and had no discernible taste from what I can tell, so I swallowed it. Again I await the results. After around ten minutes, I started to fill full, my stomach was a bit bloated, but you couldn’t tell unless you saw how skinny I was to begin with. Huh, don’t tell me this the magical bean which will leave you full for days??? I can’t believe such a thing really exists! With this bean I don’t have to worry about food anymore. Hurray. Okay, so you go to the right. Now what’s next

*poot*

*Pfffffffffff*

My face flares up red like a tomato and fumes could be seen. Aaaahhhh you goddamn bea-

*poot*

-n, you are dead. Grabbing the bean, I crush it in my hands and fling off the remains. Despite the fact it was too small to crush, it is still the bean’s remains.

*poot*

*Phew*

Finally done, even the sun was now 3/4s gone; creating a beautiful mixture of red, orange and purple blanketing over the sky. This was a pretty bad experience, but at least I have determined what is edible. Although I talked about killing myself by eating more fruits, when I got poisoned; I tried, but it backfired. The first of the fruits that was poisonous, without causing me to faint, I ate the whole thing. But the pain only got grew stronger until I fainted… To make matters worse, I woke up without dying… So with that experience I decided to not try that anymore till I am positive I would die. And that bean’s effect wore off after like another ten fruits. So here are the results:

Total fruits: 32

Good: 17 (tastes good: 13, tastes bad: 4)

Bad: 13 (faints: 4)

As I looked at the two piles of fruit and the sunset

*yawn*

Feeling tired from the hard day of work, I undid my dress blanket, and looked for a nice place to sleep. What about the fruits? Well I’ll just leave it there for now and think about it in the morning. I’m also afraid of a beast coming for these fruits when I sleep, which is pretty unlikely with all the dangerous fruits around. Although I said look, all around me was just sand with a few rocks and boulders here and there. I don’t think sleeping on a boulder or rock is a good idea so I walked around fifty meters away, placed down my blanket and smoothed out the wrinkles and laid down. As the round sun disappears over the horizon, a few bright stars were already up in the blue night sky. Watching those stars, I grabbed the other portion of my blanket over and used it as a cover. Slowly falling asleep, my thoughts cradled this idea of a new life.

Thank You for reading, I hope my character is still uhhh good like her persionality still fits and things aren’t happening that would seem weird for her. I also hope the pacing is still ok. I would be grateful if people can point out any glaring plot holes or mistakes/misunderstandings my story has so far. If there are contradicting things please point it out, or things I forgot.  And any other suggestions as well. I also lack words for describing things, so if you don’t get the image, I’m sorry. I would appreciate the help on descriptions or words to use. Thank you. Also sorry for the slow release, I was very lazy again and only wrote 300-600 words a day.
